NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Parents fearful of vaccinations are being warned by a federal prosecutor that making a deal with a stranger who promises to mail them lollipops licked by children with chickenpox isn't just a bad idea, it's against the law.
Jerry Martin, U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, said he was spurred by reports this week by KPHO-TV in Phoenix and WSMV-TV in Nashville about people turning to Facebook to find lollipops, spit or other items from children who have chickenpox.

I have never seen a more perfect example of how modern civilization is interfering in the process of natural selection. Because this collection of gullible, sap-witted mental defectives believes that vaccines are "too dangerous" they are instead opting to deliberately infect their children with live strains of the diseases that they have purchased from strangers online for more money than the "greedy pharmacorps" are charging.

I, for one, cannot ****ing wait until we have a vaccine for the HIV virus.

They need to just leave these folks alone and let them excercise their liberties as free peoples.

Unbelievable. The disconnect from logic and just plain common sense is staggering.

There are no doubt laws against sending biological agents in the mail. Prosecute them.

Measles parties, too.

An outbreak in the US between 1989 and 1991 saw more than 55,000 cases of measles and 123 children die from it.

Yeah. That's 1 kid out of every 447 that contracted the disease.

Every time an unvaccinated child dies from one of these diseases, his or her parents should be forced to record a 30 second PSA that includes the words "We killed our baby because we were too stupid to have him/her vaccinated." Every. Single. Time.

Oh my God - who didn't read that and think of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?

It places other children in danger to do this. As much as I'd love to have these retards Darwin themselves out of the gene pool, the risk to others is unacceptable.

Picks up jaw from floor and closes mouth

WHAAAAAT?????

And of course the idiot twonks will be bringing their infected children into the EDs and hospitals to put at risk all the immune deficient people there

Sorry but this is where the "right to free speech" that the anti-science crowd are exploiting, often for their own gain, should be mitigated by an international law on "false advertising"

Department of Chid Services should be notified of the name of every single parent that took their child to a "party" like this.

Some people should be designated "Too stupid to breed"

There certainly are, especially since the Anthrax event in the USA.

Heck there are laws about incorrect disposal of infectious waste!!

Oh my. I think you are needed in the Common Sense thread. Or maybe not. Wear a helmet. LOL

LOL - yeah really. Too bad that's not infectious [common sense]. We could change the world one lolly at a time.

So we should let people intentionally infect kids with dangerous diseases? Hell no. Especially since there is no oversight on these lollipops, you have no idea what's on there.

We put more people in danger by allowing them to procreate.

Well, luckily, it turns out that putting a lollipop in a Ziploc bag and sending it through the mail is a terrible way to preserve these viruses.

Though it does make me really tempted to find something that would survive the trip. And give them away for free because I'm so helpful and don't want anyone to be able to trace my financial records.

I don't appreciate calling people who don't opt for vaccinations degenerate, retards, or people who should be stamped out of the gene pool. That seems to be the subtext in this thread. People who buy live infectious agents over the internet to expose their children are morons. I've said in other threads... myself and my family will not be vaccinated, but it's not like I want to go out and find a live virus to feed to them. That's ludicrous. Who would give their child a lollipop infected with something?

If we didn't make these hoople-heads wear bicycle helmets and seatbelts, this might not even be an issue. See how it snowballs?

Your argument makes no sense at all.

I have a better idea. How about if someone intentionally infects YOU with a potentially deadly disease without your consent? They're just exercising their liberty as free peoples to inflict unnecessary bodily harm on another human being, so we should just leave them alone. Right?

It makes sense, it's just to complex for you to comprehend.

It's not complex at all, it's a red herring and a classic one. The things you brought up aren't related to what we are talking about at all.

Well... it seems like they have consent, since the parents are seeking out these infected lollipops and having their mailed to their own address. It's just ignorant because the lollipops contain a live virus and it's not comparable to a vaccine.

I don't know why the parents are so afraid of their kids getting chicken pox anyway. It's not that serious of a disease and you're immune for life after you have it.

I was referring to getting consent from the victim of this biological attack, i.e. the child. And since children are legally incapable of consent it's a moot point. It's the moral and legal equivalent of someone on the street walking up and jabbing you in the arm with an infected syringe.

It's serious enough that it can cause a child to miss a week of school, or in some cases be hospitalized. And you're also immune after you're vaccinated.

If you are spreading misinformation about the role and safety of vaccinations then you are part of the problem

I haven't done that. All I've said is that I don't want to be vaccinated. That's stating my personal choice, not a misinformation campaign. If you can't seem to stomach my freedom to seek (or not seek) whatever medicine I choose, then the problem is yours, not mine.

You'll get no argument from me here.

Of all the children I've met who have had it, I've never heard of a kid going to the hospital for it. I think that must be pretty rare.
