Richmond Tea Party Group Sues the City

Most of your posts are pure bigotry. It's like without "Libbos," you would have no identity of your own.

Bigotry, eh? :lamo

When all else fails... :lamo

Sure, give them back the money. Or at least some of it. Permits to protest are a load of bull. No one should need permits. The police presence is paid for in taxes. Those should both be reimbursed. There's no cause to charge for them in the first place. Not sure about the "emergency personnel", but if those are privately hired, then the Tea Partiers are still on the hook for them. Same with the portable toilets.

Of course, the fact that the Tea Party rallies, where they complained about the crushing burden of taxation, had $10,000 to spend like this, and that the OWS groups do not... that tells you something about these groups.

what does it tell you?

The Occupy movement has about $400K.

That's really what you got out of this?

It sounds to me like they just want things to be fair.

They only care because it's liberals. The Tea Party is the Republican party...so it's nothing more than the normal partisan bickering.

I'm not a Republican and neither are many tea partiers I know.

I think this shows exactly what is important to Conservatives these days. Not lower spending, or smaller government -- poking liberals with sticks. It's why when they win elections, none of the things they say are important to them actually happen.

Perhaps you need a mirror. Where did they "poke liberals" with a stick? Their problem does not seem to be with OWS but with the cities double standard.

You almost got it.......you just couldn't quite hang onto it though.

Moderator's Warning:
WOW...okay.

This thread is about the Tea Party of Richmond requesting money back from the City due to the difference in charges to them and OWS

Take the Nambla crap, the generalized trolling crap that doesn't deal with the topic specifically, and personal attacks out and stick to the topic. Next post that is in this thread that doesn't specifically address the actual topic is going to get a thread ban

that may very well be so.. but they paid their way to be whiny assholes.. the OWS are freeloading whiny assholes.

so, do you have a good reason why the TP should have to pay and the OWS should not?
Because the Tea Party payments are water under the bridge. They weren't smart enough to protest without permits.

The Occupy movement has about $400K.

Which part, specifically, do you think this about? Don't forget, most of the various groups are not in any kind of communication with each other. The OWS groups here in DC have no funding or support at all. If some of the folks in New York have some money, and I'd love to know where you think it's coming from, good for them. They're the exception, though.

The tea party is an organization, the occupy protesters not necessarily.

The First Amendment stipulates, in black and white, that EVERYBODY has the right to assemble and protest. As much as I disagree with the Tea Party on issues, I will be the first to say that they are right on this. They should get their money back. Considering the fact that the purpose of their rally was to voice their grievance against the government, they should not have been charged so much as a dime to hold their rallies in the first place. To be charged money for the right to peacably assemble and "petition" the government for grievances is unconstitutional.

Actually, the fact that they were charged different amounts is Unconstitutional as per Forsyth County, Georgia v. The Nationalist Movement.

Interesting scenario. What do you think?
I think the local tea party people are a bunch of hypocrites. Tea partiers tend to be those who espouse obeying the law and personal responsibility. Well, getting a permit fits that. Now they're saying they don't want to be law observant responsible citizens.

There is a big difference between requesting that a law be equitably applied and saying they don't want to observe it.
