Good lord. :doh

Only Biden could turn "we need more cops" into... well, this. However, the OP is definitely spinning what he said as negatively as possible.

"We need more police. It matters to the families and businesses they protect. It matters to the lives they save. If a member of congress had ever had their lives saved by a police officer, maybe they'd understand just how much that can matter."

Four seconds I came up with that, Biden. Same message. Stronger impact. Less idiocy. Maybe I should be VP.

What does one year of subsidies paid for by ten years of taxes matter?

People with jobs spend money, increasing demand, benefiting other businesses. Those businesses will need to hire more people, creating more jobs, those people with jobs spend money...

The current recession is a demand-side problem. The companies are doing great, record profits, but they aren't hiring because they don't have the demand to justify it. It doesn't matter how much the company makes or how much the CEO is paid. If I'm not even selling the widgets I currently produce, why would I hire more widget makers? Nobody is buying anything right now. Everyone's afraid of the poor economy, saving as much as they can, not buying stuff they don't absolutely need. Businesses are doing the same, minimizing expenditures as much as possible. (including canning an employee that isn't critical)

Somebody has to spend some freaking money. Do that, things get rolling again, then maybe the people and businesses relax a bit and start buying more stuff on their own.

People need jobs. Businesses aren't hiring. The alternatives to having a job:

1) Live off the taxpayers
2) Steal.
3) ???

Laid off teachers and cops will steal?

Who knew?

Exactly how are companies making record profits and doing great if there is no demand for their widgets and they are not selling any of them ???

Because they've slashed their employment rolls in half and cut the pay for those who are left. (and shipped jobs to cheaper labor overseas)
