Jamie Hubley, Gay 15-Year-Old Ottawa, Canada Teen Commits Suicide

They have a higher suicide rate than the general population and LGBT kids are 4x more like to commit suicide than their peers so it's less him singling them and more statistics singling them out. And yeah, it can be curbed.
Where does that stat come from? Is there some sort of "gay test" that identifies the size of the kid gay population? How do we know they have a higher suicide rate?

Edit: I just saw your post above, it's garbage, even wiki stated nobody knows the size of the population.

Assuming gays are more likely to commit suicide, is anyone studying the family lives of these tragic kids? I know it is a liberal talking point to assume all gay suicides are due to homophobia, that makes liberals feel better.......that doesn't mean it is a correct assumption.

From Andrew Sullivan's heartbreaking article: Andrew Sullivan: Why Gay Marriage is Good for America - The Daily Beast

"As a child, when I thought of the future, all I could see was black. I wasn’t miserable or depressed. I was a cheerful boy, as happy playing with my posse of male friends in elementary school as I was when I would occasionally take a day by myself in the woodlands that surrounded the small town I grew up in. But when I thought of the distant future, of what I would do and be as a grown-up, there was a blank. I simply didn’t know how I would live, where I would live, who I could live with. I knew one thing only: I couldn’t be like my dad. For some reason, I knew somewhere deep down that I couldn’t have a marriage like my parents.

It’s hard to convey what that feeling does to a child. In retrospect, it was a sharp, displacing wound to the psyche. At the very moment you become aware of sex and emotion, you simultaneously know that for you, there is no future coupling, no future family, no future home. In the future, I would be suddenly exiled from what I knew: my family, my friends, every household on television, every end to every romantic movie I’d ever seen. My grandmother crystallized it in classic and slightly cruel English fashion: “You’re not the marrying kind,” she said. It was one of those things that struck a chord of such pain, my pride forced me to embrace it. 'No, I’m not,' I replied. 'I like my freedom.'"

Suicide is tragic, especially teen suicide. We can't calculate how many gay teens commit suicide and we can't calculate how many gay teens commit suicide for the reasons Sullivan describes, but we can give gay teens a reason to look forward to the future, hence the "It gets better" campaign.

I have known about 5 young people who killed themselves. The first one I found out about was a guy who was the son of one of my mother's best friends. he and his two brothers were 7-10 years older than I was and these three would often watch us when we were smaller and my parents were entertaining dad's business clients etc. I had no inkling that the oldest guy was gay until one day, when I was about 16 and his family was over for dinner and my dad was doing a slide show of some safari he had taken in Kenya and several of the pictures were of the british professional hunter's 20 year old son who was a very very good looking young man and "Craig" seemed to stare at those pictures. That was the last I saw him. a few year later I was home from college and my mother was crying when i walked in the door after coming home from work or sports and she noted that Craig had been killed trying to jump on a moving train. At that time I was working at City Hall and knew lots of cops and the next day I asked one about the death and he mentioned something about a "fag" jumping in front of a train.

So I asked my mom what really happened and she sort of acknowledged that the cop was truthful and this guy couldn't handle being gay even though his parents were very liberal-one of his brothers ended up being a well respected episcopal priest who has been a leader (though straight) of pushing for gay rights.

Its sad because "Craig" was a great guy, he was top of his class at Cincinnati's best public school and was top of his class at Amherst.

Later, I learned that my favorite teacher in HS, my coach on my cross country and track teams, the guy who helped get me into Yale and Amherst (we all figured he was gay but he was extremely discrete) blew his brains out when someone "outed" him

Its sad that so many good people have felt that need to kill themselves because of intolerance

Suicide is almost always tragic, particularly when this means the death of young people. But there are many more gay young people who haven't killed themselves than those who have.

"Outing" is just awful, and creeps like Perez Hilton who have forced others out make me sick. I guess Hilton is just trying to validate himself, but it's still wrong.

I wouldn't lose much sleep if that ass met up with a peterbilt at about 80 MPH. Some people really need to sleep with da fishes and he's one of them IMHO

Well, he's just floggng his pitiable 15 minutes. My only objection is that he does so at the expense of others. Call me "old-fashioned" for saying that one's sexuality shouldn't be up for public consumption unless one is exploiting it.

Perez is a former fat boy who's a fame-tart. Even his "additions" to photos are just pathetic. (If you're familiar with his schtick, then you know about the white dribbles.)

I hope somebody he's outed gives him the beat-down he deserves some day. Not that this will be instructive, LOL...just that he needs it. Needs it badly, LOL.

Being a teenage is difficult. Being a teenager who is in a minority group is tougher. Being a teenager in a group that is ridiculed or avoided by many is even tougher. Add depression and it become easy to see why so many GLBT teens see suicide as a viable option. It is sad that no one recognized the red flags in this child's journal and got his some serious medical heap for his increasing hopelessness and despair. Prayers for his parents who are now no doubt remembering things that didn't seem that important at the time about changes in thoughts and behaviors. Prayers for the teachers and peers that are doing the same.
