Actually I was quibbling over your stereotyping and smartass attitude.

How the hell do you know how much money they have? Is this what Glenn Beck says?

Stop saying stupid things and contribute like a grown-up. Please. :)

I wouldn't be too quick to disgard the meager bank desposits of the common man. After all, how have the banks been able to make so much money over such a short period of time?

That's a question that opens another whole can of worms. I argued as to why it's stupid to run any customer off but the banks didn't create record profits in such a short time with all of these small fee's.

The reasons for how all these record profits were made is why people are protesting.

And yet...the banks manage to not only survive but thrive. See...thats making a really good point.

Yea, they thrived alright, with a huge handout from the Government, without which they would have gone under. Since I am a taxpayer, that's money out of MY pocket, and you don't call that redistribution of wealth?

That kid you are talking about that GROWS UP? Once he reaches that point is grows out of the "look at me I'm a 99% er" and begins to make responsible, reasoned, and rational decisions. He recognizes what it takes to be personally successful.

Running to the government "save me, save me" is grown up? If you make bad decisions and fail, what do you do as a grown up? You take your lumps and move on. Yes, many of these protestors have some very immature demands. It's far easier for me to overlook immature demands than ones that create havoc on the economy.

Heck...he probably earns enough to provide for a family. He grows out of the 'evil corproate' mantra and recognizes who provides opportunites for growth and success...heck...he probably BECOMES part of those corporations in some capacity.

Yes, but who is going to teach the banks?

1Perry is correct here.

Every person I know who is a member with my local Credit Union also have accounts for their children at the same Credit Union. I've even had co-workers who banked w/large commercial banks ask me how they can become members at my Credit Union.

Discount it if you will, but people are starting to get very upset with banks and their underhanded dealings.

It's not that they are even underhanded, they really aren't in theory. There is nothing wrong with providing a service and charging people to use it. The problem is in the fact that many of these banks have stockholders they must account to. Again though, there is nothing inherently wrong there either.

But these big banks are expected to bring in more and more every year. There comes a point where you've sucked everything dry and as we saw, they create all of these artifical ways to create income and those types of things always causes problems.

There is risk involved in being traded on Wall Street. We back the money in these banks through FDIC. Because of that, all risk that can be removed should be removed from any bank that wishes FDIC backing. If your desire is riskier investments, great. Just stay the &*$% away from the money of those who don't.

I've never heard that proposed before: Easing the regulatory burden in exchange for giving up FDIC backing. Interesting idea, but would we follow through? TARP removed a lot of risk from the equation, and the specter of federal support will always be there as long as our economy is dependent on the banks' continued solvency.

Actually I was quibbling over your stereotyping and smartass attitude.
Oh...well...I have no defense re the smartass attitude. Good thing YOU dont exist to post nothing but snotty, snarky one line comments, right? :lamo

No one is going to 'teach the banks'. You are foolish if you believe anything you do will 'teach the banks'. If you want to see reform then shift your protests to DC and focus on the congressmen that bailed them out. Focus on the banking committees in congress that create the system as it stands. Or...stay on half the sidewalk and stay out of the street and protest til your little heart is content. Personally...i WANT them stay all throughout the NYC winter. Just follow the rules...obey the law...and have way more fun than you can stand.

Your mistake here is assuming that only poor college kids are the only people behind this Occupy movement. You'd be dead wrong! This movement is larger than most people think and cuts across various age groups.
Good grief, where did you pick up that info? The Pee Party movement is only large if you define it as the collective bowel movement of the Nation as a whole.

Yea, they thrived alright, with a huge handout from the Government, without which they would have gone under. Since I am a taxpayer, that's money out of MY pocket, and you don't call that redistribution of wealth?
Then you along with all the other vewy vewy sad pandas should shift your focus to DC, shouldnt you? How did you feel about the Tea Party types...right on board with them re spending and bailouts...right? Or did you just call them racists?

I said that I doubt this works. (continued)

Sorry, it's both. It's an incestous relationship. ie: Geithner. Do I think many protesting will be willing to face this? No, I'm not so sure but I'm going to wait and see. This is why OWS and the Tea Party should work together. We see here that ultra partisans are unable to see where the two overlap but I hope they are an ignorable minority.

banks dont exist for your pleasure. They dont exist for my pleasure. Banks dont exist to serve. They exist to turna profit for their board and their shareholders. You arent going to change that. Where you have a right to be upset is when the government has created unfair business practices or has obligated your taxpayer dollars int he form of bailouts. The people bitching loudest about the banks today were very much anti-Tea party and PRO government bailouts (a position which i was against...I always have maintained that the banks should NOT have been bailed out and they should have been told to work out there screw-ups with their mortgage holders or collapse). So again...just like the assclowns pissed at the banks because they themselves ran up huge student loans to pay off COLLEGE tuitions...you are protesting the wrong people. Take the party to DC and go after congress and the president...cuz ALL of them are in bed with banks, corporations and the markets.

No, but we can change how the story ends when they screw up.

Yes, there is a lot of hypocrisy being shown over this. The party is also in D.C. Will they put the blame where it belongs? I don't know yet.

They paid the money back with interest and on top of that the government forced some of the banks, who had adequate liquidity to take the money anyway.
It's not at all like you're presenting it.

Again...were you in synch with the Tea party when they opposed TARP and the bailouts? Do you oppose both parties and the president that has their stench on them from years of being in bed with them? You are blaming banks for being banks when your real grief is with congress.

I see a lot of people on the right saying 99% should be attacking the government in DC instead of the financial heart in NYC. In a way they are attacking both with the 'walk your money to credit unions' message. If people actually do this in even moderate numbers, it will hit both the financial institutions and the politicians on both side where it really hurts - in the wallet. Where do you think most of the contributions for the GOP and Dems come from? The wealthy & corporations or average Janes and Joes? Anything that mess with the power of the wealthy to continue business as usual will mess with the money available to politicians.

NOOOO....you're regulating the job creators...and then we'll have less jobs because then the banks will all be like "we can't take your money because there is too much regulation, sorry no more checking accounts!". Or something.

ha! and IMO thats just dishonesty on the banks part ;)

You do understand that those fees are in place to off set the cost of government regulations, yes?

please prove this and then prove that the banks couldnt function without the extra fees? nonsense
they are there to simply milk more money

taking into account that everybody has different situations and conditions.... for the life of me I do not know why anybody who is NOT in a commercial business deals with commercial banks and not with the local credit union.

Its just one of those mysteries of life like why anybody takes up chewing tobacco .
