While most Americans aren’t expecting their incomes to rise with the cost of living in the near future, more than 60 percent of Wall Street professionals say they anticipate their bonuses will be higher or the same as the bonus they earned in 2010, according to a recent survey.Sixty-two percent of Wall Street workers said they’re expecting a bonus that’s in line with last year’s or higher, according to a survey from eFinancialCareers.com. And while still a firm majority, that’s down from last year, when 71 percent of survey respondents said they expected the same or higher bonus than what they received in 2009.
The decline in expectations is likely due to a drop in confidence in big bank employees. The survey found that 38 percent of big bank employees anticipate a drop in their bonuses from last year, compared with 36 percent that are expecting an increase.
Big bank employees may be skittish because of a rash of recent layoff announcements. Bank of America plans to layoff 30,000 employees in an effort to trim about $5 billion per year the company announced last month. Barclays announced in August that it would slash about 3,000 jobs this year, while UBS said it plans to axe 5,000 jobs.
Bonus plans likely won’t be announced until January, but if last year is any indication Wall Street workers should expect their bonuses to fall. The average Wall Street bonus was down 9 percent in 2010 as the reforms in those Dodd-Frank Act aimed at curbing bonuses pushed in fact base salaries and deferred compensation up.

It's the deal they struck. You want the same? Go to your boss and prove you're worth what they make.

great attitude - get yours and screw everybody else... and when somebody complains ... tell them to do it to somebody else.

Makes me want to stand at attention and sing America the Beautiful.

you completely misinterpreted what he said.

He noted that those wall street employees (who often face more risk and tension and stress than 99% of America does) made a bargain and are reaping the rewards

do you think you are owed some of their bonuses?

Re: Most Wall Street Workers Say They Expect Same Or Higher Bonus As Last Year: Surve

If you spent more time and effort trying to better yourself and less time pissing and moaning about what a few others are getting you might have a better sense of satisfaction. I don't ever hear the whining left complain about people like Jennifer Aniston or Charlie Sheen getting a million dollars per week for some silly show but they void in their panties over what some wall street bond traders get.
I never did understand the double standard in earnings from the left. I don't begrudge anyone their earnings at any level or legitimate occupation, I bust butt and hope to someday have the contract opportunity to become filthy rich.

If anything the consequences of bad or even simply errant investment or other financial professionals' decisions can be of great fiduciary consequence and thus it is a stressfull job, those people earn their dollars by scrapping with numbers on a daily basis, sometimes having to convert **** to Shinola whereas the liability for an actor, or athelete is not that great, the producer or team owner and their pocketbook are at stake and the former gets paid regardless. Music is a little different in that the acts are responsible for any advances, but that has a much smaller chance of the big payoff than hitting big in the atheletic or acting world anyway.

That isn't the deal that was struck. I do not have a problem with huge bonuses. If someone gets $500 million as a bonus it's really none of my business.

The problem is Wall Street has being doing so well because the government (this includes Obama) is seeing to it with their policies. Make your million dollar bonuses, just not off the taxpayers expense.

No, nor were they owed my tax dollars when the screwed up.

The bonuses may well have been tied to the bottom line regardless of how that happened.

Bailouts prolong incorrect IMO. I wasn't a fan of any of the bailouts from the Bush admn. to Obama and I agree that they should never have been done. That being said if the contract was written to the bottom line and the numbers increased the employees may technically have a court case if the bonuses aren't issued. Then again I admit that is speculation as I don't have any information of the contract structure.

But we know what did happen. If you do not want people dictating your pay, do not ask them to save you from ruin.

There was a solution to this but it wasn't pursued because Geithner was only interested in saving his pals. This is the one problem I do have with the OWS crowd. Much of their displeasure should be directed at Geithner but so far I do not see it.

The solution.........We agree (which I still would have been against) to bail you out as long as all past compensation contracts are null and void.

I definitely agree with that statement. I am really playing Devil's Advocate on that one and thinking of possibilities that would require the bonuses to be issued.

I have noticed that some of the gripes are misdirected away from Geitner/Bernanke policies and other government created problems.

I'm not an attorney so I don't know how possible that solution would be legally, ethically I completely agree with you.

I stay consistent and am equally displeased with celebrities banking on the capitalist system we have. I support capitalism and I'm not one to force people to accept less pay, but you better believe I will openly denounce greed.

When I hear about actors and athletes getting millions of dollars a year, I can't help but think I could more easily afford going to movies or sporting event if those involved in the shows, movies or events would simply accept a less exorbitant amount of pay.

$20 million a year just to throw a ****ing baseball around?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

I can understand why so many people thinks it's ridiculous as why athletes and celebrities get so much money for little doing more than playing games and getting lots of fame, which many would PAY to have.
However, they are good at their jobs (or people believe), so because of those people's demand to get more, and because there's such a limited supply, their talents are in very much high demand, so they get such exorbiant pays.

I understand how the system works... I consider that greed, with the fact that their exorbitant salary ends up being paid for by the fans. What ever happened to playing for the love of the sport? It seems there's no loyalty to the fans. It's all about the money.

It's a business.
That love of sports thing was crap. They wanted to make money, they needed to make money, and the fans are stupid enough to pay for it.

In your America hard workers are the enemy, lazy slackers are heroes, and Government Bureaucracy is the path to "freedom". Orwell wrote a book about people like you.

Actually the supply really isn't all the limited. My wife and I enjoy going to see the WV Power play ball. The field is top notch. We can get tickets almost right on the field for no more than $8. That's on nights they aren't running some sort of special which they do all summer. Some nights we can get great seats for $2.00.

No ego's. Good baseball and it's cheap.

1984?
You do realize that Orwell was a socialist so therefor if you go off the stereotypical statement of this: "Socialists hate the rich and hardworkers" then Orwell must of believed that....

And also we dont hate hardworkers we just believe that "hey maybe if the people that crashed the system, and really didnt have to pay a dime to save themselves and got a hand out instead of using that money you know to try to create jobs and instead they just throw that money at bonuses." We believe that is wrong.....

He wrote more then just 1984.

The people that crashed the system are over in DC. GOVERNMENT MEDDLING crashed "the system" and Government meddling keeps it from bouncing back. This is the dnger of class warfare rhetoric.

Other people are doing work and getting paid and you're mad why? Let me guess.

Also, why is the "rest of the country" suffering? I'm not on wall street, but I plan on earning more next year than the prior year. You might be surprised by this fact but it's entirely possibly to work, and grow, such that next year you earn more, than the previous year. I can't back that up with hard evidence, you'll just have to take it on faith....

Every time someone other than you gets a raise, you get angry? What sort of things are going on in your head exactly.
