NC governor recommends suspending democracy to focus on jobs

I wonder where the biggest charade is? Is it with those keeping the money they were gave or is it with those who gave them the money?

Both...but the biggest charade to me...is that corporations are sitting on billions saying they are uncertain...uncertain of what...YOU rule this country not the govt....they are purposely creating and extending the misery for personal gain...and I think that sucks perry.

She was exaggerating for effect. She was not making a serious proposal, but illustrating the problem with government now.

This part I can agree with. I don't really like ole Bev, between her and our previous Dem Governor we've gone so broke as to not only have to reduce pay for many government employees, we've understaffed many important positions... (1 Highway Patrolman per three counties at some times for example)

But, I understand what she is TRYING to say, she could have said it alot better though.

Her point is that congress is going to be more focused on getting elected over the next year than fixing what they can.

And this is what's WRNG with people like her. Government doesn't create jobs.
Yeah...I think the more disturbing part of the statement was the part about suspending elections, but ok.

The intention behind the suggestion, I think, was legitimate. We need to do something to so that politicians start basing their actions on what is good for the country rather than what they think is going to get them re-elected and their party colleagues into office. But suspending elections isn't a good idea. Especially because a substantial segment of Washington already seems intent on doing what it wants regardless of what the public thinks.

Yeah, but, to be fair, that just means that Congressmen will worry about how their constituents vote in another 2 years rather than at all.

If you ask me, I think we need a voting system that allows more compromising candidates to get elected. That is one reason of many why I prefer the Instant Run-off Voting instead of plurality.

Additionally, just as each party in both chambers have a Whip to ensure party discipline I think that each party in both chambers should also have a position that seeks reconciliation and compromise. By having a designated negotiator maybe it will help our political parties to being working together for the good of the nation.

Actually, I'm more in favor of age limits than I am of term limits. I think that once someone gets at a certain age they become too out-of-touch with the advances of society to properly represent their constituents. Also, it would inhibit long-term politicians without preventing multiple terms.

so you want to discriminate , on the basis of age alone, for holding office?.. seriously?

hell ,shoot for the trifecta... gender, race, and age.... you'll get just as far.

If their constituents are still electing them, then they are obviously still representing their constituents.

Get it?

Well we already discriminate on the basis of age alone for many other things, such as when people are allowed to vote, and when people are eligible for Social Security, and when people are allowed to legally drink alcohol and use tobacco products. So please don't act like this is something that isn't done already.

I would like to meet the idiotic conservative who came up with this retarded meme. Tell that to, for example, General Dynamics and watch them laugh at you.

The idiot here is the one that thinks General Dynamics is Government.

Or maybe it's the one who doesn't realize that while General Dynamics is a private business who provides jobs General Dynamics gets the money to employ people from money provided by government contracts.

This thread is a perfect example of what is wrong with politics today, even though MrV didn't realize it. Politicians cannot even make a simple joking comment like this without dishonest people misrepresenting. On the other hand, people like you, willing to see past your partisanship(which is a positive, it's only when partisanship is taken to an extreme that it is bad) that do offer me some hope for the future.

Caine, not as cynical as he tries to present...:2razz:

Or the one who does not realize that GD works for the government....Oops!

If it was a joke, North Carolina Democratic Governor Bev Perdue needs to polish her delivery.

Newly released audio contradicts the claims of Perdue’s press team that her call Tuesday for suspending Congressional election was a joke or hyperbole. In the recording, her tone is matter-of-fact and her comments are part of a serious speech.

“Listen to the Governor’s words: She wasn’t joking at all,” North Carolina GOP spokesman Rob Lockwood told The Daily Caller. “The congressional Democrats are wildly unpopular in North Carolina, so she may have been trying to invent a solution to save their jobs from public accountability.”

“If it was a joke, what was the set-up?,” Lockwood adds. “What was the punch-line? Where was the pause for laughter? It took them three hours to say it was a ‘joke,’ but when that flopped it became ‘hyperbole.’ We’ll just call it an unconstitutionally bad idea.”

Sounds like she was serious to me.

Or the one who does not realize that GD works for the government....Oops!

That doesn't mean ****. It's a private company providing a service and goods. The Government is their prime customer. And? That's weaksauce logic on your part. So your "it's a joke" spin.

Yes, because a republican says she was, it must be true. I am not sure if you are actually that gullible, or if you are being intentionally dishonest, though I lean towards the latter.

Your repeating refuted stupidity is weaksauce. The jobs exist because of the government. Hence, the government created jobs. This is not complicated stuff. GD exists because of government created demand. Spinning a mindless meme because you want it to be true won't actually make it true, and undermines any point you might actually have.

No, General Dynamics exists because private individuals put together a company, that found a market in providing for the US Military. Government didn't set up the company, Government didn't invest the capital to make it happen. GOVERNMENT didn't create the jobs. This is your fail Redress.

did you listen to the Audio? And funnily enough she wasn't the only Dem making the same "joke". Coincidence? You're the Democrat, and you accuse me of dishonest/gullibility? Irony.

And this is what's WRNG with people like her. . . And the concept of "suspending elections, just for a little bit..." What an atrociously BAD idea.
I tried to listen. I could not understand her.
I hope she is defeated in the very next election.

So alcoholics create jobs not liquor store owners. Got ya. What we really need is more alcoholics and we could drink our way out of this recession.

The workers at Seagrams and Jack Daniels would agree with that.

Noooooo....

People who drink alcohol create the demand which creates jobs. Demand creates jobs.

Noooooo....

People who drink alcohol create the demand which creates jobs. Demand creates jobs.

Demand creates opportunity. Unless you can prove General Dynamics was set up, run and administered by the Government, guess what? All you have is a company that caters too a client, the client doesn't create the jobs. The company does.

A company that wouldn't hire as many employees if their client wasn't the government.

Which is just spin to deny that you are actually wrong. Without demand there are no jobs. You cannot change this fact.
