As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years.“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, North Carolina, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”
Perdue said she thinks that temporarily halting elections would allow members of Congress to focus on the economy. “You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things,” Perdue said.

And this is what's WRNG with people like her. Government doesn't create jobs. Didn't the utter failure of the last few years of Obama's heavy push for "government stimulated" economy make that abundantly clear? And the concept of "suspending elections, just for a little bit..." What an atrociously BAD idea.

Hopefully the voters in that state throw him out.No elected official should be allowed to stay longer than their term.

the only proper way to suspend elections who be to hold a public vote on the matter... using democracy to suspend democracy, as it were.
if the people are fine with holding off elections, then I don't really care.

She does have a point.
Congress is going to do what voters want them to do, especially during an election year.
When voters don't have a good understanding of the fundamental problems a government is creating, that spells all kinds of trouble.

Government doesn't create jobs.

I would like to meet the idiotic conservative who came up with this retarded meme. Tell that to, for example, General Dynamics and watch them laugh at you.

Ok so suspending elections with one of the most partisan congresses I have seen in my lifetime is a good idea?

Obviously the private sector didnt create any either...and they are loaded with cash...total charade

You mean like the single-payer healthcare system that didn't get passed in Congress?
Or the high-speed rail bill that hasn't been passed?
Or the legislation to fix the bridges, roads, and highways we already have that hasn't been passed either?

Please explain how Obama's policies have been an utter failure when Congress refuses to implement them.

She was exaggerating for effect. She was not making a serious proposal, but illustrating the problem with government now.

Exactly and the problem with congress has never been worse...granted Pelosi started this intense partisanship but its being continued by the teaparty..
This stance that We wont compromise is crippling the country....Boehner who even tried to compromise got brutalized by the teaparty segment...
Listen up teaparty...you can only NOT compromise when you control everything...right now you have one out of 3...

Bingo. I support an 8 year limit for Congressmen. They would have enough time to learn the job and at any give time about 25% of Congressmen would not be facing re-election and could get the rest of them moving toward progress instead of swimming in circles as they do now.

Remember not so long ago, during the Regan presidency and the Clinton presidency to a lesser extent, when the president and congress would work together to get things done, both sides willing to give a little in order for things to work? Why did we ever stray from that. We now have had congresses for too many years that will go so far as to hold up appointees just to be dicks. God forbid you try and pass anything substantive, you better have a supermajority in the senate or it ain't happening.

That has nothing to do with what I or she said, and I hate the thought of term limits. I see no reason to artificially limit my choices for public office.

Actually, I'm more in favor of age limits than I am of term limits. I think that once someone gets at a certain age they become too out-of-touch with the advances of society to properly represent their constituents. Also, it would inhibit long-term politicians without preventing multiple terms.

Suspend the election? No, what we need to do is to hold a special election, one in which every office is up for grabs, and no incumbents allowed to run.

Throw the rascals out, and elect citizen legislators whose goal is to address the problems of the country instead of furthering the interests of their party.

Then impose strict term limits and campaign spending limits, get rid of the absurd TV commercials claiming that the other guy is Beelzebub himself, and elect people who are willing to do a short term of public service, instead of career politicians out for themselves and their party.

(Sure, like that's going to happen)

I remember that well redress...but its gone up in smoke...and I admit that it was the Pelosi and her gloating joker like grin ramming the healthcare bill down everyones throat that originally started this ball rolling....but now this teaparty is no better or even worse....these two sides are bickering and sniping at each other and rome is burning....unemployment is running out for everyone..were going to have millions of hurting people soon many with no income at all...and the teaparty says NO COMPROMISE...no taxs...lets cut social security...medicare...give out big tax cuts and everything be all better...

I wonder where the biggest charade is? Is it with those keeping the money they were gave or is it with those who gave them the money?

And yet, any discussion about going further in debt goes nowhere. Why is that? Especially when they actually only have a small portion of one.

It's a bit odd that a libertarian would wish the government to regulate free speech in this way.

How about instead of getting rid of political TV ads we inspire our electorate not to pay attention to them?

Good idea. Maybe DVR technology will do that for us eventually.

Imagine what an impact it would have on the electoral process if every voter simply skipped all of the political ads!
