Chris Christie Reconsidering 2012 Run, Will Decide in Days

Christie's weight won't hurt him in an election. We have far more important things to worry about.

What will hurt him is his inexperience. Romney, Perry, and the others will be quick to compare him to Obama in that respect, and will use Christie's own statements that he doesn't feel ready and is not familiar enough with national issues.

His pragmatism will also hurt him. The best he could hope for is coming out of the primaries with independents questioning his readiness to lead and conservatives feeling angry that the establishment managed to retake control of the Republican party.

Once the country rejects Tea Party extremism in 2012 or, perhaps more likely, 2014, Christie will be in the perfect position to run. He knows it, and will not declare.

I think your wrong and Im going to catch hell for this statement...but its a fact that women as a whole not as individuals have more of a tendency to vote for the handsome males and women outvote men....aside from that..

Putting my feelings about Christie aside...The man has absolutely no self control what he puts in his mouth, he has to realize that his weight can impact the publics view of him and he is a public figure..hes gained weight since hes become Governor hes gotten bigger. If you want to consider obesity a disease fine...do you want an alchoholic or a drug addict or any other individual with a manic compulsive disorder as president.
He needs to get himself under control before he can control my life...theres a myriad of ways to lose and control your weight and get help for it, he hasnt even attempted to do any of them or he hasnt been the least successful if he has.....christie is not my hero

Was a poor example anyway...comparing a smoker to a tub of chit...lol

It was an absolutely direct and concrete comparison. It seems anyone could understand that.

Agree with most, but even as a Christie fan, disagree about the weight thing. Especially since recently it became a 'health' one too.

People do form opinions with and vote on Looks. Romney Looks Presidential, but if he looked like some other Financial heavies (ie, Ben Bernanke, his predecessor, GS's Lloyd Blankfein) he couldn't even consider the Presidency.

But everyone knows he's the 'sexiest' potential candidate. Hopefully we will wait for 2016.
My guess is the RNC is already making some sort of overture/deal for ie, him to be Keynote speaker at the Convention in exchange for letting the current lackeys alone.
He's got some chips.

This alone kind of makes me want to vote for the guy....

Breaking: Christie Jeopardizes Reelection by Alienating Crucial Guido Vote - By Daniel Foster - The Corner - National Review Online

Trenton, NJ – Governor Chris Christie today vetoed the Economic Development Authority’s (EDA) award of $420,000 in film tax credits to the Jersey Shore television program, citing New Jersey’s difficult fiscal climate and the need to direct limited state resources to programs and projects that actually benefit the state.

That's right - he cut funding to Jersey Shore. I think this is an issue which both sides of the spectrum can get behind.

To edit slightly, I think it would become a factor if he chose a right-wing running mate.

I think the beauty affect is over exaggerated, though. There is a general likability effect, but he seems like a likeable guy to me.

I would rather be overweight than a smoker.

Only until the smoker was a republican and the Democrat was the tubber ...lol

Gov. Christie has repeatedly stated he will run for the 2012 Presidency. According to the two recently published articles linked below, he hasn't changed his mind.

Christie hasn’t changed his mind about running, the person said.

The first-term Republican has said repeatedly that he would “have to commit suicide” to convince people he won’t seek higher office in 2012. Michael Drewniak, a Christie spokesman, said in an e-mail that “nothing at all has changed.”

New Jersey governor Chris Christie is not running for president in 2012. He has said so himself many, many times. And yet this week, once again, rumors have surfaced that the freshman governor is “in talks” with Republican bigwigs to hop in...

The chatter commenced anew thanks to NewsMax‘s recent article claiming Gov. Christie would decide “in days” whether he was running for President after a “hush-hush powwow” between top Republican donors and the New Jersey governor. The context of the piece is even more bizarre than the rumors that the governor is thinking about it. It is apparently Indiana governor Mitch Daniels– the great Republican hope that never was– who is pushing for Christie to jump in. Christie has both publicly noted he finds the current GOP field unsatisfactory and that he really, really has no interest in running for president, can everyone just leave him alone now?

All the indications are he isnt running...but alot of pressure has been put on him from far right sources that dont want a romney to win the primary.

They need to call the Divine Miss Sarah.

They need to call the Divine Miss Sarah.

We've discussed the Divine Miss Sarah's prospects of getting into the 2012 presidential race in this thread. If she does decide to get in at this point I'd be alittle surprised. Conservatives would go ballistic! but I seriously doubt she'd have the desired crossover appeal the GOP are hoping for from her to win.

I was talking to a doctor friend today. A NY/NJ dual resident one no less.
He feels the weight isn't just an appearance issue but a health one which he views a disqualifying at this point. His est? 'near 300 lbs'.
I believe he was in the hospital at one point for an issue that could be due to his weight; exhaustion/dizziness/weakness etc.

Me personally, I wouldn't want somebody to run the country that keep saying that they are not ready. Regardless of what party, you want someone in there that wants the job badly. And to my republican friends, you guys are doing a lot of damage to Romney and Perry brand by this pursuit of Christie. You guys are making them look like sloppy seconds and you better believe the Obama campaign will use that to their advantage.

I can see it now. "Why should america vote for you when your own party don't want you"
