Chris Christie Reconsidering 2012 Run, Will Decide in Days

Ok seems christie is not going to run...

But those close to the governor say any suggestion that he would get into the 2012 race are wrong and simply the product of wishful thinking.

Reports: Gov. Christie rethinking White House bid | NJ.com
I seriously doubt he will ever run. He doesn't look healthy and with his asthma he could literally tip over and die any moment. Most revealing was the limo waiting for him when he went to see his son play baseball.

Thunder I dont know where you come up with these ideas...hes half Italian and half Irish and the big guns in the gop are actively courting him...theres a black guy in the whitehouse for god sakes and you dont think a guy thats half italian can get elected ?

that's not what I said. I aid I don't think a guy that's half Italian & Roman Catholic can win the GOP nomination.

why? too much anti-Catholic sentiment, too many stereotypes about Italians & the Mafia and Jersey.

I was a little bit in favor of Chris Christie before but didn't he say absolutely that he wasn't going to run this time? How can we trust him on other issues if he goes back on his word this time?

Who knows he has a big ego....but he is a very unhealthy young man...shame really

That italian mob thing is not and would not be an issue...and the gop dont have anti christian issues...its more a democrat thing....I think your wrong thunder.

all Christians in the USA are Roman Catholic? that's interesting.

and what makes you think the NJ/Italian-mob issue wouldn't come up?

I don't think his ego trumps the effort it takes run a national campaign. Maybe if he beomes a contestant on "The Biggest Loser.";)

I'd waaaaaay prefer Christie over Romney or Perry. He'd tear Obama apart in the general election. Sadly he's so viciously attacked the idea of running in the past that I can't see how he could change his mind... shame. I really just want anyone other than the goofballs/sleazebags currently running.

Im not going round and round thunder...we disagree...the italian mob thing is a dead issue non starter...and the catholic thing didnt work against JFK and it wont work against anyone in 2012

JFK wasn't running for the GOP nomination.

If he had, he would have been destroyed simply because he was a Roman Catholic.

Romney is a mormon.

Christie - on paper - would be a major player in this primary season. I seriously have questions about his physical stamina and ability to endure in such a taxing contest. But its his decision.

Obama will be praying that Christie drops dead from a massive heart attack the day before the election. He knows it will be his only chance. :lamo

That's a pretty big leap. Newsmax reported that he was reconsidering, but Christie's people have said that he's not. Newsmax info must not have been reliable.

Jeeez that is silly

Jeb Bush and Rubio are both catholic and so is Rudy

Oh please. Some of the most famous and popular conservatives are Catholics, including Pat Buchanon. We have an African American, a Mormon, a woman as serious political candidates for the GOP nomination and you come up with that statement.

Sorry but there is a difference between allowing a woman, mormon and a black person be able to run for the nomination and being "serious political candidates". Only one remotely serious is Romney and that is only according to the media talking heads. Only thing that counts is when the GOP faithful vote and we have yet see if Romney can overcome the mormon issue, Bachmann the female issue (although she also has the crazy issue to overcome) and Cain the black issue.

I have no doubt that the GOP has changed over the last 20 years, but fact remains that the GOP is the white males party and they tend to vote for people like themselves.

I for one dont believe the GOP is ready to elect a black man as their presidential candidate. Steele was only elected as a response to Obama's election victory... an attempt to show that they are not the party of the white man... it backfired as everyone saw through the ploy and the GOP soon turned on their black "talisman".

I also have a hard time seeing how they can elect a woman, especially Bachmann. Had the female candidate been some what sane, then maybe but the 2 main female candidates are bat crazy and unelectable outside the GOP.

The religious issue is only key to the religious wingnuts of the right so the question will come down to turnout and % of the vote that are religious wingnuts.

As for Christie... he has his issues, but they so far are not as gaping as those of the other candidates. His main problem is he is far too moderate on certain policy issues, and that will doom him with the GOP in certain states. And yes his health issues are a major problem. Him standing beside a healthy Obama will bring back the Nixon-Kennedy situation.

a lot of things can happen in the following months.

Right, Kennedy wasn't a real well man.

Do you even know your political history? Nixon lost that election after looking "sick" compared to Kennedy during the debate. That is what I am referring too.. they will see a fat guy with known health problems up against a lean fit man.

That is true. people who listened to the debates on the radio said Nixon was the winner while those who viewed on TV said JFK was the winner. For the crucial debate, Nixon had his knee slammed in a car door in North Carolina and was in physical pain and it was obvious he was not well.

I think the whole 'how one looks' is also hurting Perry. On those debates he comes off like a smirking smartass. That is not a good thing.

Exactly.. Politics of today are very much focused on the exterior as much as the policy of the person. That is why people like Ron Paul, McCain and Christie are fighting with a disadvantage because of their physical issues (age on the first two and obesity on the latter). If a candidate looks sick or gets an episode during the campaign, then he or she are in serious trouble despite it might not being anything. That is why McCain's choice of VP was critical for his bid (and ultimately sank him), and that is why the VP of Ron Paul and to a lesser extent Christie would also be far more critical than Obama's VP choice.

There is a reason that most politicians are "good looking" more than not... looks sell.

I knew what you were referring to. I just noted that perceptions are not always what they seem. Nixon was the far healthier one.

Which is irrelevant.... image > all. His image was that of a sick man at the time.

How about a lean fit man with a record of accumulating insatiable debt and seemingly never ending economic woes? Think that might impact the race as well?
