Obama's Quote

The people of this country work hard to meet their responsibilities. The question tonight is whether we’ll meet ours. The question is whether, in the face of an ongoing national crisis, we can stop the political circus and actually do something to help the economy; whether we can restore some of the fairness and security that has defined this nation since our beginning.

Bachmann's reaction

“It was interesting to me that if you look at the president’s remarks, almost out of the gate, the president began by insulting members of Congress,” she said. “He invited them to be a part of this address this evening…And yet he began with an insult — for a circus tent.”
“That isn’t what this is. I don’t consider the greatest, most deliberative body in the United States, the House of Representatives, a circus, a political circus,” Bachmann continued. “It isn’t at all.”

Yes Michelle, with clowns like you in charge, it most certainly is a circus.

Re: TPM2012 Michele Bachmann: Obama ‘Insulted’ Congress By Calling It A Political Cir

First off, he said the entire political process is a circus. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt, and assume he realizes he is essentially the ring leader in the show.

But it amazes me how out of touch she is. The American People are not going to object to this classification. She can continue to feign indignation all she likes, she is most definitely a clown though.

Re: TPM2012 Michele Bachmann: Obama ‘Insulted’ Congress By Calling It A Political Cir

Feigning indignation is what rightwingers are all about

opportunists of all political stripes are guilty of this.

take off the partisianship blinders for once, the bigotry is not becoming.

It happens on both sides, but it's the right that's made a political "ideology" of it

the executive branch too. I mean, our secretary of treasury was guilty of not paying his taxes. You would be hard pressed to find a more comical circus act then that!

How about republican war mongerers who never served because they said they had "other priorities"?

Or democratic war mongers who get Nobel peace prizes for continuing Bush’s foreign policy, or better yet, democratic peace mongers that controlled the senate, approved the war, then pretended they were powerless to do anything about it.

Or small govt rightwingers who voted to increase spending, the PATRIOT Act, the HSA and the TSA

those were not small government politicians. Very few politicians opposed the PATRIOT Act, TSA, or HSA - including Obama.

Paul and Kucinich are the only two off the top of my head that fought openly against it.

The "No True Scotsman" fallacy is still alive

at this point i think the wh is the only branch of gov't paying attention. obama said what most of us are thinking, shut the **** up and get to work.

you are incorrectly using this fallacy. small government politicians are judged by their actions, not their titles. We are not discussing a party. If they seek to grow the size of government, they aren't for smaller government.

Politicians are also judged by their words, hence this thread

Obama is paying close attention all right - to the diminishing possibility of his electability.

doesn't change that you misused the fallacy.

If I were to say, all female mammals can produce milk, and you point out your female bird doesn't produce milk. It is not a fallacy for me to point out that your bird isn't a mammal.

And the GOP is well aware that the less they get done, the more it hurts Obama.

I misused nothing. You just made up a convenient definition for small govt politican

convenient? spending more money on defense then the rest of the world combined is a sure sign of being for big government. warrant-less wiretapping also shows that they want government to have more power.

what is small about the government these types of politicians want?

The taxes and the number of non-rightwingers in it.

Re: TPM2012 Michele Bachmann: Obama ‘Insulted’ Congress By Calling It A Political Cir

The taxes and the number of non-rightwingers in it.

Spend and borrow is not a sign of small government policy.

A politician that wants to have the most powerful, influential government on the planet is not a small government politician by any rational understanding of the term.

It’s as logical as calling Michelle Bachman a progressive.
