"Just remember, this is the United States of America. We write 80 million checks a month. There are millions and millions of Americans that depend on those checks coming on time," Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner told "FOX News Sunday."

"Not just people that supply our military, but people who get Social Security benefits, Medicare [and] Medicaid benefits. And we can not put those payments at risk and we do not have the ability to limit the damage on them if Congress fails to act in time."

And Timmy, don't you think that's part of why we're in debt beyond all reasonable measure of hope?

I hope Timmy is better with checks than he is with taxes.

I am of the opinion (and that's all it is -- an opinion) that Tim Geitheist is a liar, cheat and co-conspirator in Obama's Cloward-Piven subterfuge.

No, not really. Mere social security probably is the lion share of that. And Social Security's problem is largely that past Presidents and Congresses have raided it for years replacing money with IOUs. True, it's a ponzi scheme, but if the trust fund was actually there, this wouldn't be anywhere near the problem it is.

I suspect direct deposit/transfer is much higher then 80 million. Considering how many contractors the governmnent works with, Medicare/aid payments, military direct deposit, if I had to venture a guess, DD is probably at least two to three times as large as number of checks written.

We were in debt beyond reasonable hope 2 years into Bush's term. For you to be calling about this now is ridiculously partisan....even for you

Nah, I'm gonna go with bloated military spending, a major recession reducing revenues, and overzealous tax cuts.

That's because Ideological Whims > Reality for you.

Social security/medicare shouldn't have added a penny to our debt because there's a specific tax set aside to pay for it. Thanks to our very wise congress, it didn't work out that way. Instead, that money was spent to pay for all those other things I mentioned.

Geitner is a tax-cheat and a chronic liar. He's a co-conspirator in Obama's Communist coup against America. Geitner should be imprisoned.

*NOTICE: This is just my opinion, nothing more. I'm not threatening anyone, or encouraging violence of any kind. I simply expressed a personal opinion.

Lets remember that he was head of the NY bank of the Fed going into the crisis.

how much did you pay in taxes last year, mr v?

How much did you pay, Liblady?

I paid $7,000, in income taxes, alone. That doesn't include matching social security, medicare, unemployment and workman's comp.

Expats having issues regarding proper timing and recognition of income isn't exactly uncommon. My firm has a whole section of tax professionals dealing with expat tax issues. Geitner failing to properly recognize income isn't something that can easily be claimed as proof he lied.

No, but he has followed it up with plenty of things we can accuse him of lying about.

I likely can not say here what I really think of him.

When history lists Obama's failures as history does with all presidents Geitner will be at the top of the list. Why Obama brought him on board used to be a question until I truly understood that Obama was as owned by Big Business and the Powers That Be before he took office as George W. was before he took office. Both parties are a major part of what is wrong with this country and Geitner is proof positive.
