Seriously, I cannot fathom how any American would be okay with these proposed cuts to SS. If it were happening in Canada, I would waste no time protesting it on Parliament Hill.

Like always... Mr. Kucinich is spot on.

Why does Obama insist that we have to borrow more money, or we can't pay social security?

That's because you think Government is supposed to take care of the people, whether they want to be taken care of or not.

I'm probably going to vote for Dennis whether he runs for president or not.

Yeah, if I see my paltry $900 bucks a month cut so that Trump et al can keep their tax loopholes, I'm gonna be one pissed granny. BTW, y'all know what Social Security started this year? It kept the pennies. That's right. I used to get a check for $900.70 cents. They kept the damned $.70. Kept the pennies from my husband's check, too. When he called he was told that SS will round all checks down to the nearest dollar.

That may not seem like much, but when you're keeping pocket change from tens of millions of people, that adds up to big bucks real fast. Damned ****ing politicians. :2mad:

Don't worry, I'm sure all those pennies go right back into the secure social security "lock box" for emergencies -- you'll see them eventually.

Yeah, those "emergencies" like the government helping itself to social security funds, then screaming that it's too broke to pay social security payments... that what you're talking about?

Oh no, of course not. They would never... That's just unethical

Mr V if I may ask you a question....If we abolish social security and medicare...abolish pensions and health benefits like the teaparty wants..

How does all the under employed and walmart workers which is the largest employer in the country...how do these working class people survive and save for their old age....Now second part of the question...what happens when you have MILLIONS of old people not capable financially of taking care of themselves....just out of curiosity what do you think happens....because I never EVER read anything you teaparty cheerleaders say about that....because that will be inevitable.

Well yes, S.S. did not create the deficit. Dennis along with the rest of the Congress did. Sack up Dennis and admit you spent way beyond your means much like when you ran Cleveland into bankruptcy.

That's not what they want. They want to allow the people have more control over it.

We need Kucinich in the white house. He is one of the few who can fix this country him or Bernie Sanders.

Why does Obama insist that we have to borrow more money, or we can't pay social security?

Because intimating that we might not be able to pay SS gets people's attention far better than saying that we may no longer be able to subsidize corn production, or purchase a shiny new airplane.

But he didn't say that we had to borrow money in order to pay SS. He merely let people come to that conclusion. What he did say was that he couldn't guarantee that checks would go out if the debt ceiling were not raised.

I can't guarantee that it won't rain here tomorrow, but it would be a surprise to everyone if it did, including the local meteorologists.

Making such genersalised statements does not help at all. Why do some simplify everythiung & everyon's thoughts. Are you psychic? I'm amazed at how many folks seem to know what others are thinking..including intent!

Government should "augment we the people"

That's because you think Government is supposed to take care of the people, whether they want to be taken care of or not.

Isn't that what a government should do (take care, represent "the people?") Heck, if it were a free for all, why even elect any politicians?

Wow... blaming Dennis for the SS deficit. :doh

I don't know if Dennis could fix this mess, but I do know that he always seems to have the best interest of the American public at heart. That is rare in today's world.

Wow... blaming Dennis for the SS deficit. :doh

If you would read a little more closely you would note where I blamed him for the debt. But now that you brought it up, by voting to spend the money that was supposed to be held in S.S. he is a part of the problem.

M'kay. So how can this be accomplished?

I would split it up. I don't know the exact numbers but it would go something along the lines of 50% into the government program and 50% into a personal account. (these numbers can change). The personal account couldn't be touched by ANYONE and then only by the one who paid in after a certain age (or death).

I'm an American living in Canada and I can tell you that the reason why Canada's social services are not at grave risk is because the right wing is not as prominent here as it is in the United States. There is also not the traditional fear of the red tide that Americans went through during the Cold War, which has persisted to modern times. The right wing in the U.S. is tenaciously moving forward with gutting all social programs, thinking they are doing their nation a favor. All the while, the extra money is just being diverted to private interests (i.e. bailouts) anyway. Any money that is saved from cutting public programs is just going to corporate welfare - which the right wing seems to hypocritically support most of the time.

The U.S. is in a sorry state. We are so lost that people believe that destroying support systems is going to do them the world of good.

I'm sure Dennis is a nice guy. Politically speaking, however, he's a waste of time.

Similar to the above post I'm sure.
