Poll: Debt ceiling deal should include cuts and tax increases

the deal : 1 trillion dollar cut now (over ten years); debate continues until November; everything on the table at that point. automatic cuts if congress does not act.

There is not a trillion dollars in cuts. The debt will rise over the next ten years unless real cuts actually happen.

Silly side show? You think saving the country from economic disaster is silly? Wow!

Yes, it's a side show. It should be a routine vote, but the same repubs who have voted to raise the debt ceiling umpteen times in the past, have suddenly "found religion" on the issue and have created an artificial crisis.

How many of the freshman Congressmen have voted for raising the debt ceiling? Don't you recall the 2010 election?

How many of those freshman congress critters protested the other umpteen times we've raised the debt ceiling?

They weren't born yesterday, and neither were we

Don't know about the current freshmen, but here's a quote from one in 2006:

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Senator Barack Obama, March 20, 2006 on the Senate floor.

1) I don't see anything in that statement that suggests he was ideologically opposed to raising the debt ceiling. The teabaggers claim their opposition to doing so is based on ideology.

2) I don't care what Obama says, and I don't believe what Obama says

3) You don't believe him either, but you'll quote him as if you do whenever it's convenient for you to do so

Yeah, let's ignore the Nobel Prize winner and focus on what the Koch Brothers and ALEC thinks

Good idea.......

I'll take the advice of the owners of a successful business that employs 70,000 people, 50,000 of them in the U.S. over a left-wing academian who's never signed the front of a paycheck in his life any day of the week.

You're right about one thing........I don't believe a word he says.

Umm, the Koch Bros made their money from govt welfare. They are the biggest beneficiaries of govt largess in US history. Your heroes are nothing but welfare queens who couldn't make dime one without socialistic govt support

Your ignorance is astounding.

But you'll quote him like the Gospel if it will help you win a debate on the internet

I quoted him to prove you wrong, but that was too easy a task.

They got their money the old fashioned way: they inherited it.

I'm pretty sure that the media was not checking with people who were not part of Congress about other times of lifting the debt ceiling. Most conservatives have never, ever thought that there should be a need to raise the debt ceiling.

I'm pretty sure that you're wrong.

And those "conservatives" sat silent while the debt ceiling was raised more than two dozen times. If they didn't think there was a need to raise the debt ceiling, it's because they're ignorant fools who are easily manipulated.

This is too nonsensical. Do you think the media would cover me or you if we said went to them denouncing [in your casing loving] the deficits and the debt. Get real!

true, but they increased the companies' worth thousands of times over since they took over almost 30 years ago. They didn't exactly inherit the money and the company, then sit back and do nothing.

That's true. But they didn't exactly pull themselves up from their bootstraps, either.
