A sizable minority of U.S. Christians eroneously believe this country was designed by our founders to be a nation that favors Christianity, even though the 'plain language' of the Constitution clearly indicates 'religion' and not 'christian religion'. Aside from the plain language, there are indications very early on in our history that Islam was included as one of the protected religions.

:shrug: I don't know how people believe that freedom to access to muslim services means a slippery slope to mandatory sharia.

The OP is taking things out of context. I don't agree with Cain on this issue, and living very close to Murfreesboro I don't mind the Islamic center being built. Cain wrongfully believes that the Mosque intends to spread Sharia law into our courts, this is what he said infringes upon religious freedom (sharia law) not the building of the Mosque.

Ok, show us a transcript of the context, and let us evaluate it. I can't find a transcript to see if you are asserting this truthfully, erroneously or merely in ignorance.

In the meantime, I think it is warranted to wonder whether Cain's ostensibly vigorous defense of religious freedom goes both ways. There is a minority of Christians who advocate for rule of society based on Biblical Law. One must wonder, with his concern for religious freedom, whether he has spoken out against these Christians when they open new churches.

It’s been estimated that as many as 80 percent of American mosques have received funds from Saudi Arabia, where the official state religion is radical Wahhabi Islam.
Intelligence sources tell CBN News that many American mosques have been infiltrated by the Muslim Brotherhood–an Islamist movement that seeks to establish Islamic sharia law worldwide.
We asked Mayor Burgess if he and the Murfreesboro county commission were aware of these points.
“I’m not informed about that, I don’t have any evidence,” he answered.
“Don’t you think you should be informed, though?” CBN News asked.
“As a basic citizen, I should be informed about every issue that I can be,” Burgess said. “But I can only enforce this rules and regulations that the state of Tennessee and the United States and Rutherford County have authorized me to enforce.”

Questions on Mosque Leaders
Yet serious concerns have been raised about imam Osama Bahloul and at least one board member of the Murfreesboro Islamic Center. Bahloul is a “distinguished graduate” of al-Azhar University in Egypt, where anti-Semitic and anti-American rhetoric is commonplace.
He told CBN News off camera that he condemned the terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah and that Murfreesboro Muslims were just looking for a quiet place to worship. Yet he declined to appear on camera.
Then there is Islamic Center board member Mosaad Rawash.
Rawash was suspended from the board after pro-jihad slogans were found on his MySpace page. They’ve since been removed. A mosque spokesman said that Rawash is back on the board after being cleared of any wrongdoing.
Locals also have other concerns–like where the millions of dollars are coming from to pay for the proposed complex

Either way he's an idiot, for both indulging the slippery slop fallacy, and thinking that Sharia law will come into any meaningful position within US law.

RCC churches are under the direct control and supervision of the Vatican in Rome. And the Vatican is a soverign state, with its own foreign policy. And billions of dollars in property and investments.
