TURNS OUT the president many expected to revive the New Deal is out to bury it instead.

That's the inescapable conclusion following President Barack Obama's offer to trade cuts in the Social Security and Medicare programs--part of a projected $4 trillion in reductions over 10 years--in exchange for Republican votes to raise the U.S. debt ceiling by August 2.

In return for giving the Obama administration the authority to keep borrowing to finance government operations, Republicans were expected to bow to modest tax increases that will annoy the superrich and outrage Tea Party ideologues in the short term--but would actually lock in tax rates for the wealthy at historic lows over the long term.

Sounds like me he is just becoming another moderate right winger, like he wasnt one already

I'm sorry, I couldn't be buggered to read "propaganda" passed as intelligent discourse. FYI You cannot have socialism and democracy in the same country, the two are not congruent.

Seems to work fine for all those democratic socialists in Canada and Europe... oh hey... I guess you're wrong. Imagine that. Do you know what congruent means?

Yeah, propaganda like, say National Review are pretty terrible.

Oh wait, you like their propaganda.

He always was fairly moderate. The only people who really thought he was a socialist are the extreme right who paint anyone to their left with that brush.

Very well said. When I see some on the far right label Obama as a Marxist I come to the conclusion that they have no real idea what true Marxist is or perhaps they are identifying the president as a fan of DUCK SOUP and A NIGHT AT THE OPERA.

That is not true...in the beginning of the Obama presidency he was as left as left can get led by a fully liberal left wing house....he has since morphed to the center to try and be like clinton and get re elected....I believe Obama is as liberal as it gets..

Here are my thoughts and Reality..........

Liberalism is a Complete Lie and Utter Fraud.......As is every form of Statism around the world

....so your disappointed that Obama wasnt able to deliver the gumdrops and lollipops he promised.......well guess what DM.......there are plenty of Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, Communists, Marxists, Leninists around the world who have the same view of their Statist leaders.

As you grow older, wiser and less liberal, your going to realize the liberal utpoia you were promised has never existed and will never exist.......instead you will see poverty stricken crime laden unemployed bankrupt liberal ****holes wherever Statism is empowered......and a Hope for Change that never happens.

You come up with that all by yourself? I'm betting RW radio was your source.

His politics are president are very different than those of his senatorial career. Try doing a little homework on your own. If anything, he's been a centrist which has pissed off a fair number of those on the left.

For without RW radio....the Founders and Forefathers wouldnt have known what to stand for....and against.

Only because The Kenyan Tyrant isnt all the tyrant you wanted him to be..........

Of course you wanted him to snap his fingers and create a public option to nowhere.........of course you wanted him to close Club Gitmo with just a signature.......of course you wanted him to lower the seas with a wave of his hand.......of course you wanted him to raise taxes on the evil rich to 99%......

......well he did too.....but those damn seperate branches of government and The Constitution kept getting in the way.

Of all the statements I have read here - that one is in a class all by itself. And that is saying something. Congratulations.

But, but, but, the constitution! Really? How weak can it get? I mean really, a RWer bringing up the constitution? Hilarious..

But not his INTENTIONS my willfully ignorant friend...........

I may we willful, and I may be ignorant in your view (nice TOS Violation there by the way), but I most certainly wouldn't call you my friend. So I would prefer that you don't call me yours. Because I'm most certainly not.

No it doesn't. However if you like how they work, move there.

Not exactly. While his Presidential decisions have been different from his proclamations in the past, especially with foreign policy, I do not believe he has governed much of the domestic policy from the center.

LOL There is no Constitution. Bush and Cheney already shredded it. Were you whining then?

Guess how many times the word "God" appears in the Constitution by the way. I'll give you a big fat clue. It's equal to the amount of credence in your comments.

I agree with this assessment.

Both liberals and conservatives complain that Obama isn’t being true to his campaign promises, but New York Times columnist David Brooks argues pretty convincingly that Obama campaigned as a center left pragmatic reformer and that’s pretty much what he is. Not that he is carrying out every campaign promise, but anyone who was paying attention got what they voted for. He is not an ideologue; he is clearly willing to compromise to get things done. And he believes that though government should act to solve problems, he doesn’t like to interfere with market dynamics unless they’re not working.

Obama as a Centrist. Really

Oh you just have to love the classic "If you don't like it, move" attitude. Right up there with the "Real American" argument.

That dog just doesn't hunt any more.

LOL There is no Constitution.

Sing it from every liberal mounaintop........the biggest road block to Liberalism is no more.

Bush and Cheney already shredded it. Were you whining then?

Well if Bush and Cheney did it.....obviously HusSame is going to do it.......but with great liberal rejoice this time.

So at least you agree they were gun toting radical right wingers.......and they would despise the Democrat party of today.

For all your "respect" for the Founders you know nothing about them. They had the same arguments then about the power of government that we are today. The Constitution itself is a compromise document. The partisan rhetoric was worse than it is now -- remember how Alexander Hamilton died? He was shot by the sitting Vice-President in a duel! Jefferson's hatred of Hamilton was strong enough that he hired someone with no foreign language skills as a State Department translator so that he could eventually install him as the editor of an anti-Federalist newspaper (So much for unbiased media. Never existed, and never will).

Try learning some history to go with your partisan hackery. It might do you some good.
