Glenn Beck Moves to Dallas, Texas

Here are some articles from Wilmington's newspaper for you:

Beck donates $51k to Murphy Theatre

Beck and his wife, Tania, recently sent a check for $51,000 to the Murphy Theatre to help repair its aging infrastructure — a five-project undertaking which is expected to cost more than $500,000.

“I literally started crying,” said Murphy board member Leslie Keller when recalling the phone conversation she had with Beck’s representative. Keller had called to ask if Beck and his production team would donate $5,500 to the theater’s fund-raising campaign. Instead, Beck offered $40,000. “You can imagine how blown away we were.”

But that $40,000 grew into $51,000 when the final proceeds were tallied from a home sale that Beck hosted in the run-up to his “America’s First Christmas” event in December 2010.

Beck money going to local organizations

Glenn Beck and his team of producers will donate $44,611 to five Clinton County organizations, following Beck’s December 2010 visit to the area.

City officials learned on Thursday that the Fox News personality would donate the net proceeds from his appearances to a handful of organizations, including the Clinton County Foundation, Sugartree Ministries and the Clinton County Youth Council.

Chris Schock, the director of the Clinton County Regional Planning Commission, said the $44,611 was money remaining “after [Beck] covered local fixed costs like paying the Murphy [Theatre] for rent, expenses, their portion of the ticket sales and paying the City of Wilmington $10,780.78, which covered all of the city’s additional expenses.”

The general fund of the Clinton County Foundation will receive $10,611, the Clinton County Youth Council (CCYC) and Energize Clinton County (ECC) will both receive $11,000, and Sugartree Ministries and the Clinton County Leadership Institute will receive $6,000, each.

Total Beck impact still being tallied

When Beck pledged to donate money to the city, his fans followed suit.

The Clinton County Foundation (CCF) received between $15,000 and $18,000 in donations during that time, according to Lori Williams, the foundation’s treasurer. Some of those were donated to specific causes like Little Hearts, Big Smiles or the Ho-Ho Shop, Williams said. One $10,000 donation was given to the foundation to be used at its discretion.

“It’s a little hard to know for sure [how much money was raised because of Beck], because not all of the checks were identified by the donors as such,” Williams said.

The money given explicitly to the foundation will be set aside in the group’s IC Clinton Fund, which is separate from the DHL fund that gets distributed to area non-profits each year, Williams said. Money in the IC Clinton Fund can be requested for donation by individual organizations.

An auction on the Murphy stage before Beck’s evening show on December 15 raised “a couple thousand dollars,” said auctioneer Gary Kersey. A portion of that money was given to the CCF and another portion to the theater.

For all the money they raised, Beck and his production team spent their fair share when they were in town. They rented 12 rooms at the General Denver Hotel on December 14, ordered pizzas by the dozen from Generations and visited a handful of other local restaurants.

Wow. I can't believe Beck and his listeners went to Wilmington and gave thousands of dollars. What hatemongers.

Sugar Creek Ministries is the soup kitchen, one of those councils is just a prayer group... The most generous thing he did was donate that money to the Murphy. Everything else he did, the thousands of dollars, was collected by the very people he charged in Wilmington to meet him and talk. He was basically charging people to save their own town and taking credit for it...

so the solution is to behave like him, and in relation to people who didn't say, or do, those things?

No, I am just just saying he attracts that type of people to him...

True. It was 97 when I looked, I rounded up for 3-digit appeal. Busted :)

Atleast it's dry heat down there. The humidity blows here. It's like 95 degree's here, with a ridiculous humidity.

Poor Dallas. First the mortgage crises of the Regan era then wild fires now this. I'll pray for them.

Yeah, this is just another person to embarrass Texas...

Agreed... I need to move for my health, but I heard that parts of Texas does get humid. I have been researching it. Florida is probably one of the best states.

Of course it isn't. But it's not a shock that it happens. He inspires rage.

After a week or so 100 degree weather it really gets to you

LOL Might want to check the humidity readings there too before you make the leap.

SheWolf, I don't even know why I'm attempting to argue this with you because you obviously have some sort of jones for Glenn Beck and will NEVER admit that he has done anything good EVER.

You do realize that thousands of people NOT citizens of Wilmington paid that $125 to see his show, right? And those that live in Wilmington CHOSE to pay the ticket price knowing it would help their own community. Beck gave THOUSANDS of dollars to help boost the economy of Wilmington. He sold his own personal possessions to help them. What is it about Beck that makes liberals so incredibly blind to the good he does? Baffling, really.

It's not just humidity that is important, it's certain pollens...

How about a week of 100 or so degree weather with an average humidity of 75%. It's no joke here, the AC is my best friend haha.

I did say Beck did something good... He donated personal money to the Murphy.

Can you admit when he does something bad. He charged locals to hangout with him, talk and dine. I think he is the only one that looks like the scrooge from Miracle on 34th Street.

Here is the forecast for Florida weather for June-Sept: high 93 low 76, humidity 80%, chance of rain 30 - 40%. This is accurate to +/- 2 degrees, +/- 15 humidity, and +/- 10% chance of rain. The only variations we get to this is when tropical system is in the area.

Current humidity here is not so bad since the thunderstorms stayed just a tad east of me today.. it is only 75%. We live in glorified swampland, the humidity is a constant during the summer.

That sucks... I guess it was best in pollen counts then, not humidity.

My yellow dusted car a few weeks ago before the rainy season hit begs to differ there too.

we are a tad off topic here.. oops. but whatever.. Beck moving is not really anything noteworthy IMO anyhow.

I think Houston would be a better fit for beck. More hot moist air.:2wave:

And the soup kitchen, Clinton County Foundation, the Clinton County Youth Council (CCYC) and Energize Clinton County (ECC) and the Clinton County Leadership Institute. Not to mention the thousands of people he brought into town who also individually donated and purchsed from Wilmington shops. All of that is good, not just giving to the theater. Agreed?

No, because I cannot find proof that he actually did this. The tickets for his show were $125 apiece - I'm guessing you're not talking about that. If you can show me an actual news story showing me that Glenn Beck charged a fee just to be in his presence throughout the town, I'll eat my words.

Just give it up Mellie … she wolf is just a frustrated liberal, that has to pick on someone to make herself feel good .. Glenn Beck, G.W. Bush .. Ronald Reagan, the Tea Party … as long as she can bitch about anything, blame her own short cummings on anyone else it makes her feel better.

There are actually a few liberals here .. that you can have a discussion with … she isn't one of them .. if it's done by a conservative … it's bad … if it's done by a liberal .. it's good ..

That's the way they are trained to think by RW Radio and Fake News.
Perhaps... but from my point of view it appears the left wing media trains it viewers and listeners to attack the right wing media's viewers and listeners and visa versa, so you see the audiences of the media regardless of which side are throwing stones at glass houses. If it bleeds it leads, chaos, fear and hatred is a revenue generator for our media, and the more money it makes the more political clout it has, and with this it can in place those who support our corrupt media to continue the rot.

All that said, remove the politcal aspects of the news and report just the strait news, any media outlet can do this.

I think you make a great point here in that people only tend to notice when media outlets of the opposing lean attack, rather than their own. Sort of like how people only want to acknowledge facts that they agree with.

Sadly this is true, but as of right now doesn't look like it will happen. These sources know what makes them money and it is by doing what they are doing now. News has fallen victim to corporate wealth.

Secondly, why the hell should any of us care Beck is moving? That baffles me more about this thread then anything.

Why would I lie about something like that and make it up? I know Wilmington very well. I know a business owner there very well and business owners. I know a lot of people who work on the police force there. I know a lot of people who work for Clinton County Hospital. The Sheriff of Clinton County is Sheriff Fizer and he is the son of the previous Sheriff Fizer... lol.

I know what Glenn Beck did to the local people there and what he didn't do. He didn't visit a single business that his recruiters didn't stake out ahead of time, and weren't Beck supporters. He charged the locals 500 dollars a day to dine and talk with him. If you don't believe me then that's your own folly, and Beck has you fooled.

Beck isn't a local hero in Wilmington. It's well know that Beck didn't walk into random businesses to say hello and get a feel of Wilmington. It's well know that Beck wouldn't talk to anybody if they didn't pay, and no other celebrity has behaved that way in Wilmington before.

So you have no proof. Didn't think so. Don't you HONESTLY think if that was really happening the media who haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate Glenn Beck would've maybe reported on that?
