Rep. Ryan Tastes The Grapes Of Wrath

Expand the deficit? Ryan's plan does not reduce the deficit or debt. Virtually all of the savings from the cuts are eaten by tax cuts which then are assumed to bring in a ridiculous 50% return. If Ryan was serious about cutting the deficit and debt, he'd raise taxes slightly and put ALL of the savings towards deficit and debt reduction. Ryan's plan does not put us on the path to financial solvency.

He came in when everyone else was too busy bitching and put forward a plan.

Why is this news?

Best part about it is that Ryan even saw this pbrauer type nonsense coming - which is why he has the receipt. Total progressive fail... love it!!

pbrauer just isn't responding because he's too busy composing his next thread, which will be full of anger at how President Obama serves wine that is even more expensive at White House dinners... but has the taxpayers foot the bill.

....no doubt.... i'm sure that's it....

Both Kennedy and John Kerry were/are wealthy people, plus I don't think they wanted to take money from elderly low income people. But that's precisely what today's GOP wants to do.

fascinating how "saving the entitlements and means testing them to give more to low income elderly" has become "taking from low income elderly".

For all the rhetoric about income redistribution, the GOP is trying to strip the benefits of lower income people and giving it to the high income earners.

really? fascinating. I'm a solid news junkie, yet here I hadn't heard about the program to tax the lower income folks to increase benefits going to the wealthy. all I'd heard about was means-testing the entitlements to give less to the wealthy and more to the poor.

perhaps you could fill me in on this program, given that apparently you are the only one in America blessed with this secret knowledge?

Rep. Paul Ryan drinking $350 wine is a symbol of it.

and Obama quaffing even more expensive vintages while the country suffers high unemployment rates and more people than ever before are on food stamps is a symbol of.... what, precisely. ?

Robert Kennedy Jr. is a liberal progressive. You can hear his views on "ring of Fire" radio show every sat. He makes Obama sound like a RWer! Soo all that BS about class warfare & that liberals hate rich folks is just that BS! There are rch folks who actually have a conscious about social responsibilities.

when they were cleaning out Robert Kennedy's desk they found all of his paychecks, unopened. Obama says he's got hundreds of thousands he doesn't need, but i'm betting he's still cashing the checks, just like he took every tax break he could get his hands on.

Please explain how social insurance programs are "entitlements?" That implies the government is giving away something free, yet, workers pay for these programs through payroll taxes. RyanCare doesn't doesn't save Medicare, it does away with it.

Sharing Costs Is No Way to Fix Medicare - Bloomberg

While more consumer cost-sharing would help reduce unnecessary care, the plan would not live up to its billing in cutting health costs for America. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, it would do the opposite. That’s right: The CBO found that the Ryan Medicare proposal would substantially increase total health-care spending.
Before delving into the Ryan plan in more detail, let’s take a quick detour into why consumer-directed health-care reform -– though useful to some degree -– may not be the panacea it’s often held out to be. The core problem is that health-care costs are concentrated among expensive treatments for chronic diseases and end-of-life care -– and even consumer-directed approaches retain deep third-party insurance against such cases (which is, after all, the whole point of insurance). Consider that, if you rank Medicare beneficiaries by cost, one-quarter of patients account for more than 85 percent of total costs. So even if the other 75 percent spend less on doctors and medicine, they can’t take a significant bite out of the total.

this is incorrect - as the Supreme Court has stated, you haven't paid for anything that you deserve, you are just paying taxes. That's how they managed to make these things legal, by making them legally just taxes.

RyanCare doesn't doesn't save Medicare, it does away with it.

the CBO disagrees. as do the Medicare Actuaries.

Just because they determined nobody has a "contractual right" to benefits, does mitigate what I said. I said the public is not getting these benefits free, they are paying for them. Understand?
