"This president is looking to usurp congressional oversight to find a way to get it done without us. My position is that is an impeachable act from my perspective. There are a lot of things people say, 'Are you going to impeach the president over that?' — No. But this? This is catastrophic. This jeopardizes the credibility of our nation if one man can usurp the entire system set up by our founding fathers over something this significant," Rep. Tim Scott (R-SC) said.

Video in link. I have to agree with him on this one.

You're raving. You're literally tripping away in full color. Please come back, we may have lost you and your common sense altogether for ever.

Instead of offering or proposing solutions, some political opponents have nothing better in mind than sounding off these marginal rants that are polluting what was supposed to be a healthy democratic debate on one of the most important political issues for the American people currently.

So I did some googlin'...and the only thing I'm finding is some vague reference to text in the 14th amendment which states that public debt of the U.S. will not be questioned. Is that really the basis for any theories suggesting Obama might try to bypass congress? What the hell kind of logic is that? I'd like to meet whomever came up with that idea...

Democrats started floating this turd idea a week ago, did you miss it?

A handful of politicians, academics and pundits have floated the idea of invoking the Constitution’s 14th Amendment to avoid a U.S. default if Congress fails to raise the limit before the government runs out of borrowing room. The Treasury says the deadline is Aug. 2.

The Reconstruction-era amendment, in part, reads: “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.”

But a statutory limit has restricted total federal debt since 1917. Congress has raised it repeatedly–10 times since 2001.

Some are questioning whether that statute is constitutional. In April, University of Baltimore law professor Garrett Epps wrote in the Atlantic that Mr. Obama could invoke the amendment to authorize borrowing that does not conform with the debt-limit law. The idea caught fire in some circles and some members of Congress have said the idea should be further explored.

Does the government -- specifically President Obama -- even need a debt ceiling?

Some analysts say no -- Obama can simply order the Treasury to pay its bills even if Congress refuses to raise the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling.

"Preventing default is no less justified than using American military power to protect against an armed invasion without a congressional declaration of war," Bruce Bartlett writes in Fiscal Times.

Whatever Comrade, it was brought up as an option by democrats... just responding to this absurdity the correct way.

He won't get impeached. It reminds of when the dems were always trying to find a reason to impeach Bush.

How to put this lightly -- there are some in the GOP who think everytime Obama takes a breath it's an impeachable offense. Not unlike Democrats who wanted to impeach Bush every two weeks.

It looks like a law professor and "analysts" came to the conclusion that Obama could do it based on the 14th. I didn't click your links (can't from the cell phone), but the quotes you provided don't say that Obama is jumping on this....so....what's the big deal? Why are we spending time freaking out about it instead of focusing on getting to a damned compromise already?

I could hug you right now for qualifying that statement.

Wait wait wait, so the ****head starts a mindless war in Libya, starts using this electronic pen to sigh laws but no we're going to impeach him over the debt ceiling? The massive retardation in DC never ceases to amaze me.

It's JUST one house member responding to the talking point trial balloon being floated.
