Obama’s Economists: ‘Stimulus’ Has Cost $278,000 per Job

So, I guess I'm to take from this thread that the airline industry is the least efficient producer of jobs on the face of this planet?

The defense industry is similarly awful, those jobs cost a lot.

Man, the medical industry... we should just get rid of it entirely. Those jobs cost ****loads.

What you oughta take from this thread, is that there's no way to fix the unemployment problem, if the government has to spend $278,000 per job.

There aren't enough wealthy people in the world to tax and make up all that government spending.

here's how gao defines waste, a full HALF TRILLION dollars worth

GAO Finds Massive Waste, Duplication - FoxBusiness.com

"most [the waste] coming in fiscal years 2009 to 2010 and going forward"

For instance, the U.S. has 15 different agencies overseeing food-safety laws, 25 separate programs on health information systems, and 80 programs for economic development. The GAO says there are potentially 35 duplicative programs on infrastructure. And it questions the $58 billion spent annually on 100 surface transportation projects.

furthermore:

Congress has routinely failed to at minimum probe and then stop redundant programs. The GAO says just five of 47 job training and employment programs had been evaluated for efficiencies. “Little is known about the effectiveness of most programs,” the GAO said in its report. The government also spent $62.5 billion on 18 food assistance programs, but “little is known about the effectiveness of [11 of the 18 programs] because they have not been well studied,” the GAO said.

no more money for managers so morose

by the way, cap and trade (thankfully, it's expired, the us simply could not sustain another blow of such magnitude) "would cost up to $200 billion a year, the us treasury says, or $1,800 per american household"

"and there is an estimated half a trillion dollars in tax hikes over ten years in the health reform bill," obamacare

fyi

Nobody has suggested eliminating unemployment entirely through stimulus funding, so, thanks for that info I guess.

Give me $278,000, and I will give you an entire business w/jobs........

Give Obama $278,000, he will give you temporary work and postpone unemployment for one bloated union slob.........

Someone has to educate you people. The assumption in the OP are ridiculous. Apparently those in the saved/created jobs got tax free income, but never spent any money. That's retarded.

Oh, is that it??

Honestly though, many of you are beyond hope. Education can only come in this form if the one being educated wants to learn. That basically disqualifies most of you, including you who keeps arguing the stupid government jobs don't help the economy despite being smacked down a dozen times. You still make the same asinine argument suggesting you do not care about educating yourself. I can lead to you water. I can even force your head in. But I cannot make you drink.

I haven't seen any "jobs" program, except giving our Treasury to banks and corporations and no jobs. Trickle down has never worked and never will. Alternative energy has the potential to build jobs that will create local jobs in all areas of the country, but the government wants to keep helping the poor OIL billionaires. Like I stated, I haven't seen any jobs programs. You know, initiatives all over the country that start small enterprises. We can't export so stick with local jobs. Alternative/renewable energy renews jobs.

You cannot teach a man what he thinks he already knows.

Look harder. The small Business admin has been ramping up loans.

Trickle down has never worked and never will.

Reagan style individual no. Corporate does.

This I largely will agree with you. But we CAN generate jobs via exporting renewable tech.

Really? What sort of business? I might be willing to invest.

I'm far more interested in the indirect job creation/saving.

The idiotic assumption underlying Zimmer's stupid argument is that those who had jobs created/saved incurred no taxes and spent no money. Now, I don't know where he's from, but people I know spend money merely to eat and house themselves, both often incur taxes in some form. Therefore, the base assumption which ends at the saved job itself is rather idiotic as it ignores basic human behavior.
Here we have OC doing what he does so well... he puts words in other people's mouths and then argues from that point. And he'll argue you said it, and as witnessed above, he will call you stupid for a position he's assigned you. It's the only way the cretin seems to know how to debate... dishonestly.

OC can't take the words at face value or ask what someone implied or their underlying meaning. Nope... he jumps right in a puts words in other people's mouths. It's a bad habit of his, that and his professional prevaricating while accusing others of it.

OC, it's time to clean up your pathetic act.

What's retarded is your ridiculous assumption that the saved/created jobs were created out of thin air and not at the expense of others. You're taking money from Oscar Meyer to "Create or Save" a job, claiming that when the recipient buys hot dogs, he'll create more jobs. It makes no sense.

"I'm going to take $1.00 from you so we can pay Steve to paint the fence that Al over there decided was the least important thing to spend money on. We're going to save that job. Not to worry, you'll get $.80 back from Steve when he buys your XXX and with that you can hire more people, we'll of course pocket $.20 for providing our services. Everybody wins."

I think it's fair to say the saved ones did not cost others. Teachers and public servants who held their jobs with the stimulus and lost them after that money was gone did not take other jobs to do so. I woould love to see evidence that they did.

I hate to break this to you, but condescending liberals like you are a dime a dozen.
