New York State Senator Roy McDonald, one of a handful of Republicans bucking their own party who will vote to legalize gay marriage in the state of New York, got sick and tired of being pushed around by gay marriage opponents. He released a statement to the press with the following quote. You did the right ****ing thing, sir.

“You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing,” McDonald, 64, told reporters.

“You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, **** it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing.

“I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this.”

****in-A right.

Aftermath

In hopes of countering the state Conservative Party’s threat to strip GOP senators who vote “yes” on gay marriage of the right to run on Row C, the Libertarian Party is offering those ousted lawmakers a place to land in 2012.

“The Libertarian Party does not believe government should have any role at all in marriage,” state Chairman Mark Axinn told me in an email this morning. “But inasmuch as it does, we certainly believe that such involvement should be on a non-discriminatory basis.”

“Various Republican State Senators have stated that they will support equal rights for gay New Yorkers and it is likely that the Conservative Party (and perhaps others) will shun them for that. We believe the opposite reaction is warranted. Those state Senators who indicate they oppose government discrimination are welcome to seek the Libertarian line in 2012, and we would be happy to discuss it with any of them should they be so inclined.”

Finally. A proper liberterian response. True the best liberterian idea would be for no government marriage. But barring that, it makes no sense to jump into bed with those who would move government further away from liberterian ideas. No Government marriage is best. Gay marriage is okay. Straight marriage only is worse. If you can't have the best, why would you choose the worst outcome over a better one?

It's a typical republican response as well. If you are not 100 % partly line you are a RINO and can get out. I suspect things like this will bite them in the ass eventuially.

I'm not even sure what their party line is anymore.

Did any GOP officials indicate this would be the case here? I see i Libertarian quoted above as ASSuming this would be the case, but I don't see a quote or policy statement to that effect.

The NY Republicans arent doing this, its the NY Conservative Party who is doing this. The NY Libertarian party is extending a branch to those Republicans who get kicked off the Conservative Party line.

We hate Obama? Honestly, Republicans don't have a coherent message on the economy. Palwenty's plan actually pushes us into default. The rest of them create a new depression. None of them seem to understand that the world does not play the free market rules, subsidizing their industries all sorts of ways. Palin and Bachmann are substance free. I'd love to vote for Huntsman who isn't an idiot, but I doubt I'll get that chance.
