Oh, the irony! Target Corp., long locked in a battle with labor organizers, filmed a notorious internal anti-union video with union actors and under the jurisdiction of one of the biggest unions in the entertainment business.

This is actually quite hilarious. Target has been attempting to block unionization at several of it's stores, and this video is their centerpiece. With strategy like that from Target, how can they lose (I'm talking about the unions, of course - LOL).

Article is here.

Ive said for a long time that if the Unions had any cojones, they would be trying to break into retail markets because it is the largest sector of the workforce that could honestly use some union intervention in terms of worker treatment, break/lunch enforcement, benefits, capped out wages, etc.

Retail is notorious for giving a lot of lip service to labor rules and laws and ignoring them in practice.

A large number of grocery chains are unionized (Safeway for one). But the retail sector would be hard to unionize as the majority of people working in that industry are short term employees who would generally not see much in the way of benifit of trying to unionize. Where longer term employees could see the benifits of being in union, and see that the effort to become unionized would be worth it.

Some companies such as Walmart would close down a store rather then allow a union to be formed in it, so would McDonalds

Target is very much like Barry Goldwater in their view of Unions, I applaud them.

Barry Goldwater actually cared about the problems that comes with "big-Union" Target is just trying to dissuade its workers from Unionizatization because it will cut into their bottom line. Always question the motives of anyone with power.

Lol.

Barry Goldwater barred Unions from his businesses. Just like Target.

That doesn't change anything that I said.

Uh huh.

You don't seem to understand what's going on here. Dan's the big "pure Conservative" Goldwater guy, I'm just supporting Barry Goldwater Conservatism in support of Target and their anti-union stance.

But their reason isn't likely the same reason as Goldwater's stance and I base that on the fact that Goldwater's augments against the Civil Rights Act actually made sense.
