Burn Vancouver Burn!!! [2011 Stanley Cup Riot]

To be honest, I adore Canada. I have a bunch of friends there. I've actually considered moving there a few times.

We'd love to have you! :)

There are a lot of great things about Canada and some not so great. But we are both lucky that we mostly live in great and prosperous nations.

I really dont see why this goes political...every city has its fair share of assclowns...unfortunately...several cities worth descended on Vancouver...

One can only hope the police utilize video and brutalize these simple minded little ****s.

This is why I prefer small towns.

So, while some of the Van fans obviously were out of line, I think it is important for everyone to also see this.

What seemed distinctly more Canadian were the e-mails the Globe received from some Canucks fans, apologizing to the city of Boston for their fellow fans’ behavior.

“I would like to congratulate the Boston Bruins on a game well played for the Stanley Cup,” Lindy Bellamy, a Canucks fan from Abbotsford, British Columbia, wrote to the Globe. “And most of all I would like to apologize to the Bruins hockey team and the people of Boston for the outrageous behavior and disgusting sportsmanship shown by a small few that caused so many problems in riots in the city of Vancouver after the game.”

Canucks fans apologize to Boston for post-game rioting

It doesn't excuse what Van fans did, but it does say a lot about others reaching out and emailing the Globe apologizing to Boston.

Im in Vancouver now and have lived here most of my life and there is no way this was done by hockey fans. The guys who did this were well prepared days earlier and are the same ones who protest at every major public gathering.

During previous games the streets were full of many thousands of genuine fans and there was good will everywhere. This is not Vancouver or its hockey fans.

People need to grow up. It's just sports.

I grew up in Buffalo. Wide Right? We had a freaking parade for the kicker. When Brett Hull's foot was in the crease and Dallas stole the Stanley Cup? Well, we bitched and moaned but there was no violence.

it wasnt about hockey

Some young adult men (generally) were prepared in advance to take advantage of large crowds and start some crap. More then a few showed up with gas masks, a sure sign they wanted to start something.

You put those people in a large drunken crowd, and things can readily get out of control. It just happens that Vancover tends to attract more of the people who would want to start crap like this then most other Can cities

Boston and Dallas both did themselves proud. Kinda sad that we actually see that as a shocking thing...

Boston is kind of like "been there, done that..." Boston is used to winning... no one has done it more in the 21st century than Boston...

No place is perfect and every place can improve and get better... Fortunately, in democracies, we can actively work to make our countries better...

Good gawd, we agree on something. It's almost as absurd as Vancouver winning the Stanley Cup. :2razz:

Yes, the riots were no doubt instigated by a bunch of thugs who had this planned in advance. Montreal has the same problem with hooliganism, where the same bunch are always looking for reasons to wreak havoc. What happened last night in Vancouver was not caused by regular fans/typical Vancouverites.

For some good News, after the Mavericks won the NBA Championship sunday fans in Dallas celebrated peacefully. Today we had a parade and a banner raising in the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Over 200,000 people celebrated peacefully. There were fewer arest Sunday Night than on a normal night in Big D.

Just heard on the car radio that the the city police, the province, and whatever police and politiciansyou have in this country are going to come down hard on these jerks. Some of them even posted their pictures on Facebook, bragging of what they've done. That's how stupid they are.

There'll be jail time as they've embarrassed the city, the province and the country. And they'll be doing rough time for sure.

That's the way it should have been here. In fact it was so peaceful among the tens of thousands of fans in the bars and on the streets during the series of playoffs that a local columnist predicted that police weren't even necessary.

Ah, Karma is coming back and coming back with a hard tipped boot up their arses.
They now have a facebook site that people can submit pics they took of the rioters and people are indentifying the rioters for police.
Just when some of these morons thought they could get away with this due to the safety in numbers. But days later there is a knock on their door and there stands a Mountie. Ah, once again in this day and age people dont realize everything you do is probably being recorded.

Like Seattle, Vancouver has more than its fair share of young, stupid anarchists. In fact, it appears that some of the rioters WERE from Washington state:

I wonder if some of these photos are good enough for facial recognition software to work on them:

Well the arrests were 100 to 7 in favor of Van.

Woohoo!!!! Vancouver won the Hoodlem Cup! :2razz:

My favorites are the guy that punched a cop thinking nothing would happen. And the guy that tried to get people to turn on the cops and when no one was paying attention to him threw his shirt and things at people and the cops.

From the site of listing pics of rioters that people are identifying is this video of a water polo star in nearby Maple Ridge. This kid who supposedly was about to get a full ride scholarship just shot his foot off.

What is commendable is the two guys who stepped in and took the burning material out of the police car. Noticeable is how the teen suddently retreats to the safety of the crowd when the guy shoves him away from the car. Not so tuff after all.

The city is in deep shock, anger and shame. I didn't realize at first how bad it was but since then its been 24 hour coverage.

Tasers, tasers, and more tasers.

I take it from this its a new phenomenan for Vancouver?

Some of them even posted their pictures on Facebook, bragging of what they've done. That's how stupid they are.

Those who generally engage in such activity are conversant with a bit of 'jail time'. If not, it would have probably been a situation of 'mob' mentality steering the group.

There'll be jail time as they've embarrassed the city, the province and the country. And they'll be doing rough time for sure
.

Why would the City/province/Country feel that embarrassed?

Paul

Here is another video of guys trying to protect a truck from the mob.
If this doesn't make your blood boil. Why didn't some of the people put down their cameras and help the guy out.
I would love to have kicked my boot up some of the punks who jumped on the bald guy when he was down. Punks.
