How soon we forget. :p

I just scored President Obama's inuagural address...

8.2

Palin's emails scored higher

Sarah Palin's GOP Vice-Presidential acceptance speech had a score of 8.3.

Edit: On the other hand, Obama scored a 9.6 on his State of the Union address.

What I like most about this is makes all the Palin bashing liars look like the fools they have been and seemly are.

I have repeatedly posted that if those "people" would do their homework they would find out that she was very successful in public office from City Council to Mayor to Governor.

It's fun to see people interested in my field of work. I find it all fascinating. :)

What? Huh? I'm sorry, Mellie I'm not getting you. What do you mean? ;)

Elmore Leonard is the naked truth, by the way. No one crafts better dialogue. I'm curious as to where his dialogue scores. I'd say below 8th grade. Just a guess.

that's baiting??

Writing Analysts Claim Palin Writes ‘Better Than Most Educated Americans’ | The Blaze

AOL Weird News brought samples to two writing analysts who independently evaluated 24,000 pages of the former governor’s emails. They came back in agreement that Palin composed her messages at an eighth-grade level, an excellent score for a chief executive, they said.

“I’m a centrist Democrat, and would have loved to support my hunch that Ms. Palin is illiterate,” said 2tor Chief Executive Officer John Katzman.

“However, the emails say something else. Ms. Palin writes emails on her Blackberry at a grade level of 8.5.

“If she were a student and showing me her work, I‘d say ’It’s fine, clear writing,’” he said, admitting that emails he wrote scored lower than Palin’s on the widely used Flesch-Kincaid readability test.

While some would initially scoff or laugh at Palin’s grade-level assessment, past speakers and writers of note have scored comparably. Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address was a 9.1 and Martin Luther King’s famed “I have a Dream” came in at 8.8. Remember, Palin’s results were based on e-mails, not riveting speeches, so the fact that they score remotely close to the aforementioned works is intriguing .

Overall, this is good news for Palin, as her writing was found to be better than some CEOs’. The New York Daily News sheds further light on her abilities:

It turns out Palin’s writing skills are still better than most educated Americans. Global Language Monitor gave Palin’s emails a score of 8.2, which actually exceeds that of most chief executives.

“She’s very concise. She gives clear orders. Her sentences and punctuations are logical,” said Paul Payack, president of Global Language Monitor. “She has much more of a disciplined mind than she’s given credit for.”

Ahh, news for once that says she isn't a retard. This is going to help her out.

Next we need an astrologer to weigh in on Palin's intellect.

Not an issue with it, I'm just wondering if it's because I referenced her sig or what?

Obama and Sarah had a team of writers whose job it is to get into his/her head and sound like him/her, but the speech was not really him/her per se.
Anyhow, the score is not interesting. You write for your audience and for your purpose. The score means very little. This is why an appropriate acceptance speech could be on a lower field than a State of the Union address. The State of the Union address could have been far more complex (although adding citations seems to drop score for our little test), but that would not be appropriate for its purpose, and thus its audience.

The entire story about the score, my own personal results, etc. mean little to me other than the fact that for a few days it will have people convinced this is what matters.

Why are people so obsessed with this lady anyway?

Communications degree.

That's a good question. The only possible explanation I can come up with is it's because she's so bizarre...kind of a cross between a stereotypical dumb blond and Hitler. You don't see that combination every day...fortunately.

But seriously, I'm glad they got something important from Palin's emails.

She's like Hitler because she doesn't kill babies, wants very small government and more freedom? Okay, now I see it. :doh

Anyhow, the score is not interesting.

The scores are of interest. Ms. Palin’s e-mail scores (which she undoubtedly writes herself) seem fairly consistent with her speeches, which is indicative of the extent of her personal involvement into the speech writing process.
Obama on the other hand jumps all over the place. His inaugural speech 8.2, SotU 9.6 and "The back to School" speech in 09 of 6.7. Actual samples of his writing while in the Illinois State Senate and U.S. Senate for comparison would be nice.

Yeah, that is interesting.

I had actually considered the possibility that the whole "blood libel" thing was "sabotage" on the part of establishment Republicans. Some speech writer throwing it in to reduce her credibility. ( like the suspicious "wrong camera" thing in Bachmann's response to the SOTU speech. I know people in the field and that's an improbable "mistake")

Its looking more and more like she DOES do most of her own writing, so maybe she did it to herself.

One thing people should keep in mind when thinking about Palin is her education. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, she has a Communications degree. She went to school to be an on-air personality, so she SHOULD look good on TV. And she should have known better than to use a term without knowing if it was "charged". And to know what she's talking about before she speaks candidly. With her education she shouldn't be making these kinds of mistakes.

Apparently people are not aware of what the Flesch-Kincaid scale actually measures.

It is a measure of the length of words and the length of sentences. Scoring high means what you write is hard to read.

So why did the guy who scored it say she did well?

Flesch-Kincaid measures the readability of the text. They base it on grade levels. The higher the grade level, the more difficult the reading level. He said she writes well because most people's writing doesn't score 8.0 or higher. Is it "harder to read"? Well, only if your reading level is below 8.0. Most adults don't find 8.0 hard to read.
