I think people pay attention to the religious preferences of the Republican Party because Republican social conservatives are louder than Democrat social conservatives and are also more influential in their party.I agree with most of your statement and if I lived in a state where civil unions were passed as a law I am reasonably sure that the sun would still come up tomorrow and the earth wouldnt split and life would go on. I simply find it beyond hypocritical that people express this mindless rabid concern over the religous preferences of one party while completely ignoring the other. Its as if people dont even IMAGINE that say, the Blue Dog Democrats from the south might have strong religious beliefs similar to many (and not all) republicans. 'Religion' is the last on my list of qualifications for government office.
