Supreme Court orders California to release tens of thousands of prison inmates

Do they give you some warning you're about to be a lifer.

You say they get a few chances to NOT end up for life, and then call the system stupid?

/boggle

Easy to see why states are having money problems......................but it is interesting that conservatives continue to support high taxes to fund life sentences for non-violent crimes.

Wherein did I say I support "high taxes" for anything?

I support giving people a chance, in this case they get THREE Chances to avoid being incarcirated for life. Whose fault Catawaba is it, that these people end in prison?

The first time? Okay, we can debate. After that... it's on them. Why are liberals so enamored by criminals?

I'm not a liberal. I'm a libertarian. I believe in Constitutional Rights. The Constitution forbids double jeopardy. I cannot be tried and punished for the same crime twice. When I have two felonies and I receive another, I should not be sentenced based upon my prior two convictions.

Why am I "enamored" with criminals? Because they are citizens.

Why are you so enamored with putting pot smokers on government/taxpayer support for their entire lives, Fidel?

He must think I'm some 50 year old country baby daddy or something.

Hey, don't talk about me like that. What is a country baby daddy, anyhow?

Indeed. Although, I doubt anyone keeps statistics to that extent. However, I don't think you can assume that most three time offenders were three time recidivists.

probably a better assumption than that they got all 3 strikes in one fell swoop

That's not double jeopardy.

If you can't stay out trouble, then you deserve to go to prison for life, or be executed. More executions would solve alot of these problems.

Why am I "enamored" with criminals? Because they are citizens.

What about the rights of the citizens that are going to be harmed by the release of these scumbags?

How is it racist to point out that just because middle-class white kids don't always go to prison for stupid mistakes, others may not be so lucky? Our criminal justice system is racist, not the people who call attention to that fact.

All those black and hispanic kids that have been convicted were convicted because they're not white? Not because they broke the law?

Depends on who they release, and how they go about it. Lesser crimes will likely have lesser consequences. Home arrest might also be an option. It simply may not be as dire as Justice Scalia fears.

doesnt surprise me you would say somethign like that I guess.

"depends on who they release"?

how about if you take them in, "depending" on who they release of course

Maybe Kandahar would like to step in and takes someone's place? It's not like we haven't seen enough 7-11 store videos of black men jumping over the counter and brutalizing the employees. Someone want to try and convince me they didn't do it?

can I clarify, just to understand your tree hugging rubbish.

So a guy robs a bank, with a gun. Does 15 years and gets out.
2 weeks later
he then rapes a woman at knifepoint, does 15 years, gets out.
then, two week later
he is picked up selling crack on a street corner.

the courts should in no way shape or form take into account his priors when sentencing him?

really? thats just beautiful, poetic even.
and we wonder whats wrong with our great country,
people like you get to vote is what angers me more than anything else

not because they're black or hispanic, necessarily, but because they're poor.

When the inmates outnumber the staff to such a high ratio, inmate care goes out the barred window. Any inmate taking doctor prescribed medicine will have to wait months for the pill testers to get around to their bottle every time that a refill is needed. Then, after the Rx has been certified, the guards will stick it on a shelf somewhere and say that they can't find it when the prisoner asks "where are my pills".
Those that happen to require immediate medical attention will be ignored. If your appendix is busting, that's curtains for you, along with many other preventable deaths.

That is a violation of section 8 of the US Constitution.

When you have 6 men sharing a 5x10 foot cell it's a violation of section 8.

When you have prisoners that are starving to death because a bigger inmate is taking their food everyday it's a violation of section 8.

When you have mentally unstable inmates not being cared for, you guessed it, a violation of section 8.

When you have guards playing Gitmo, it's a violation.

Many, many more, such as prisoners getting shanked in the back and being ignored. Many being murdered, maimed, etc.

The Supremes are right. The violations in any prison system with too few guards, medical staff, and pill testers for the inmate population will result in barbaric medieval conditions every time. The general free population's desire to hear about inmate rape has always puzzled me. It's almost like we think that that should be part of the punishment. Sickening.

The judge doesn't sentence you to Abhorrent misery, only time.

That's a buncha crap, too. If your butt winds up arrested and getting tried for a crime, you're most probably guilty.

And, it's unfortunate that the SC looks at it that way. If convicts don't like the way they're being treated, then they shouldn't break the law.

The crime rate in the black community is high, because of the Leftists constantly making excuses for the victicrats.

not because they're black or hispanic, necessarily, but because they're poor.

So the legal has it out for the poor? Then I find it telling that the left seems to rely on the judicial system to get almost everything it wants, while impuning it as bigotted.

Maybe if black parents just taught their children right from wrong, and the black community listened to Cosby instead of Jackson/Sharpton, we could actually see some improvement. It's not like they're incapable.

The Leftists and the government replaced the black parents a long time ago.

that's true, however, good lawyers keep people from going to prison. so, no, it's certainly not a buncha crap. our prisons are not full of rich people, you know.

what a silly statement. good lawyers cost money. poor people don't have money, they get legal aid. no one is "impuning" anything as "bigotted", that's how the system works in a capitalistic society.

I support terminating those with life sentences.

And I don't mean firing or releasing... They are waste of space and public resources.

Should VX gas bomb hit Max lock up in CA, think of the money we'd save.

But I'm just a liberal, what do I know...

Wait, are you actually supporting the death sentence or are you being sarcastic?

Well, if you can't afford a good lawyer perhaps you shouldn't be breaking laws that would create your need for one.
