ah, this guy. He never fails to disappoint. always remember, you can take Putin out of the KGB..... but you can never take the KGB out of Putin.

RUSSIAN Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has decided to run for the presidency next year, raising the possibility of a power struggle with his protege Dmitry Medvedev, the incumbent Kremlin leader, say highly placed sources...

:2wave: Bye-Bye, Dmitry. :)

A lot of the business elite would prefer a Medvedev presidency, because they view Putin as fostering (and perhaps participating in) corruption. Russia has a whole crapload of long-term problems, and much of the elite views Putin as being part of the problem rather than part of the solution. Medvedev is considered more of a reformer...if not for democracy, then at least for transparency and free markets.

If the two end up running against each other, Putin controls more of the apparatus that will enable him to rig elections (and might command enough popular support to win anyway), but Medvedev will probably get more corporate money unless the oligarchs conclude that a Putin victory is a foregone conclusion.

So a Russian strongman never really intended to give up the reins of power?

I'm shocked! Shocked!

Ohhh goofy Putin...

Putin is potentially very dangerous because like Obama, he thinks he's special, and that kind of person in a position of relative power can be go off his nut without much warning.

More than half of the images I looked at of Putin he had the very same glare in his eyes.

Well, in Russia the concern is without a strong man anarchy will ensue. I mean you think we have political nutters here... whew...

And this folks, is an official example of obama derangement syndrome.

In no way at all, is it nessecary to bring Obama into this, but there it is.

In Soviet Russia, president elects you.

Isn't that what dictators have always said, wherever they are? God preserve us from strong leaders.

I love Putin. He is too cowboy to be KGB.

I've always thought that Putin was Russia's answer to Teddy Roosevelt. He is quite the badass.

I think one of the biggest problems facing us is that Putin is a bad-ass, tough guy Obama is a weak kneed, limp wristed, wimp.

We can regain our position as World leader that Nations look up to when Obama is all about being and apologist, and insulting our best allies like he did England when he returned the the staue of Churchhill, and had just done to Israel.

Putin just dropped the title, hes always been in charge.

What happened to getting elected in Russia? So much for democratic reform.

Putin posses the really power since 2000 without any breaks, so-called funny "president" Medvedev is nothing more as his puppets.
Because Russia has not free election and free political system,Putin will be "elected" again maybe with 70 or 80 % of all votes. In 2017 Putin's Russia probably ceases out to exist.

Here are interesting facts about Putin's Russia.

The U.S. do not need nukes against Russia, Putin alone is more effective as entirely U.S. stockpile of nukes.Sure all people in the Western World love Putin ( except 90 % of Russians who are hungry and earn $2000 annual )

I like how we leaped this far in only two pages... He's running for president again. You know... with the elections.

I'd be just fine with Putin being back in office. He's ballsy, got some ideals, and doesn't take $#!t. He did good things for Russia and for the international community. And he made the old guys in charge around here who can't understand that the Cold War is over crap their pants a bit. I'm thankful to anyone who'll do that.

Maybe he did good things for Russia in comparison to Yeltsin's presidency...but that's not setting the bar very high. Putin has been responsible for encouraging corruption and cronyism, fostering dependence on oil exports, making Russia the cybercrime capital of the world, doing nothing to address Russia's demographic crisis, and presiding over a huge decline in life expectancy as alcoholism became an epidemic among Russian men.

Putin does deserve some credit for getting inflation under control, but that's just about the only good thing he's done for Russia. Most of the increase in Russian standards of living over the last decade has been related to the price of oil, over which Putin has only limited control. Russia's economy remains a basket case.

As for his actions on the international stage, I take a neutral approach. I don't see him as a threat just because he opposes US interests, but neither do I see him as a positive force. In that regard, he's mostly concerned himself with Russia's periphery, and adopted an isolationist stance elsewhere. Russia has been a non-participant in the World Trade Organization, for example. I can't really point to anything he's done on the international stage that could be construed as an accomplishment for the world.

Even if Medvedev is possibly bumped down to PM, they are still the most awesome political duo on the planet.

And this is Putins fault how??
I would blame it more on the "shock doctrine"...

...and I'm Russian, so I am well aware of this.
