Tenn. Senate OKs ban on teaching of homosexuality

Look thats nonesense, kids get bullies all the time for all kinds of reasons.

And in every time they get bullied the reasons come up.

I didnt say it was wrong...I said I think its unnecessary in the big scheme of things...yanno even the cavemen and women did piggynasty and had babies...think they had chalkboard sessions on how to do it

I think society changes, and certainly the nature of sex has changed with the existence of STDs. Under such circumstances, I don't think relying on information from parents and friends is enough - kids need education, they can't just rely on BS myths like "it's safe if the woman is on top" and stuff like that.

From OP article:

IOW a kid can not say their parents are gay.

What youposted did not say the kid cannot say it, it said the teacher cannot discuss it.

Seriously, all it is gonna take is one gay kid in Tennessee killing him or herself, and every one of the politicians who supported the bill will no longer have a political career.

Thats an absurd statement more heterosexual kids kill themselves more than homosexuals...girls committing suicide for being villified on facebook...Homosexuals are not the only ones bullied abused and commit suicide actually the number is far less and coincides with the number of heterosexuals to homosexuals...try being obese in school and see how much abuse you get...
So should schools teach fat kid tolerance, or ugly kid tolerance or stinky kid tolerance ...schools should be teaching reading writing and arithmatic

The kid says it, other kids as the teach about it, legally the teacher can't talk about it and it get awkward.

There was always sexually transmitted diseases...more people have died of syphyllis that aids

Morality, yes. Education... no. Parents do not have the information or material to do so.

Sure they do. it is called life experience. How do you think little Johnny was made?

syphilis has been around a lot longer - venereal disease has always existed of course, but it has become a lot more complicated in recent decades.

Heh like I said 6 kids and alot of beforehand practice and wow no sex education...I must have been the only one:roll::roll:

What are you talking about? I don't want the morality of sexuality to be taught it schools, I want the facts about not just homosexuality, but sexuality in general to be taught. By professional sex education teachers, just like I want math, and history to be taught by professional teachers in those fields.

Do you honestly any teacher will not want to put their slant on it pro or con in addition to the factual material?

I think it is human nature to try to sway people to your point of view so it will be a crap shoot weather you get somebody onthe side you beleive in to teach your child.

You are older than some of us. Did AIDs exist when you were plowing the field?

You pulled that out of the air...lol...not true

I didn't pull it out of the air. A lot of states are obligated to investigate incidents of bullying

Acutally I didnt plow..Im a big city boy born and raised and im not older than some of you..im older than most of you.
I first became aware of aids in 1968 ...we arrested a kid in his 20s for robbery, he was sick very sick. We brought him to the hospital. We kept 24 hour watch on him..his organs were failing and the poor kid was a mess and finally died.

So, there's place in school to discuss the world, as it is?

I don't think we need to discuss how the world is to a grade school student. The bad news will come soon enough.

Still I understand where you coming from..I do. Theres alot of things today that are more complicated, its not the schools place to teach religion, morality or indoctrinate kids on what some want them to be...school should be what it was for when i went to school...to teach the 4rs so you could function and make your own choices.

I can think of one specific point in my school years where homosexuality came up. It was in high school, but I can also see it coming up in Jr. High or Middle School too the way it was discussed in my class.

We were debating gay rights. The teacher was a complete twit on how debates should work, but it still was a class discussion. And I could also see it coming up in a class discussion on current events or even something like talking about what they did on a summer vacation. What if someone's family went to a gay rights event or their mothers or fathers got married or the family went to a same sex wedding? Those might have been the only things that happened to the kid over the summer and the other kids all got to discuss what they did with the class. It wouldn't be fair to exclude a kid or, worse, make them find something else to talk about just because some people want to stick their fingers in their ears and continuously chant "la la la, gays don't exist, la la la, just don't talk about them and they'll go away, la la la".

Completely ridiculous law.

How do you see this debate happening ina 4th grade class? Do you think a 10 year old mind can handle the subject matter on a serious basis?

I don't have a problem with k-5 not allowing discussion. I do think if a child has homosexual parents and bring it up then there is room for discussion.I have a problem with banning it in middle school

It has no place in school...just like religion and morality. School is for academics

There is no way in '68 you could have known it was HIV or AIDS. The anagram AIDS wasn't used till the 80's and HIV wasn't isolated till the 80's.

You keep saying that, but the real world says other wise. When 100s of kids off themselves a year due to intolerance, it becomes an issue.

Funny... but kind of sad because the Chinese translation for Orient 東方 is in pretty common usage here... :)

Political correctness is for the US.

Obama is known in Mexico as El Negro. Can you imagine referring to him like that in the US?

Yes I could...they said it was a sexual disease they were just learning about...your right the anagram aids was not used then...it was used in the oops not 70s 80s
