Tenn. Senate OKs ban on teaching of homosexuality

The bill doesn't do that. It prevents anyone from talking about it existence period. This includes students.

What are they going to do with kids with two mommies, or daddies? This makes no sense really.

Not talk about it I guess. I'm not particularly supportive of the bill, but I'm also kinda apathetic towards it. I don't think teachers should be academically discussing homosexuality or sexual orientation (counsellors and parents should in my opinion). However, if this bill really does ban all talk of homosexuality either in a social setting or private setting I think it would be going way too far.

There are plenty of situations where it can come up, like chaperoning field trips, helping out with plays, sports etc. It just seems unnecessary.

Sometimes man... the US wants make me want to puke...

Seriously, all it is gonna take is one gay kid in Tennessee killing him or herself, and every one of the politicians who supported the bill will no longer have a political career.

Amen bro, it's kind of disgusting this kind of ****.

Pretty high price to pay.

In America, the gay agenda is out to get the children. You Canadians have already been inflitrated. We are using your schools to mass produce gays and to teach children the glory of being gay.

wth, how in the world is having teachers not teach kids sexuality including homosexuality going to cause a kid to suddenly go from being a happy go lucky base-ball player to killing himself? were gay elementary students offing themselves in epic numbers in the 50's or something?

i mean, for crying out loud, yeah, we can make fun of the thread; but all this is is let Parents teach that stuff to their children, not Preach-Hellfire-and-Sin-To-Anyone-Not-Normal

Not my problem. The legistlators are the ones who are going to have to deal with having blood on their hands. Of course, I'm sure they will find a way to rationalize it in their own minds. The reality is that this bill comes from a place of fear. They fear a non existant agenda to indoctrinate children into a lifestyle. I find it funny that the people who actually do indoctrinate children into a lifestyle, the religous nuts, are the ones who have the greatest fear that other people are trying to do the same.

And what in god's name is wrong with that? I say I don't that swing way but I have no problem with it. We aren't taught that it's glorious, we were taught that it's okay and that nobody needs to feel inferior. THAT is something I think you god damn Americans will never understand. We understand all and discriminate against none. I say screw off to you and stop talking about things you do not understand!

You're a Communist, you don't even believe in God. You're going to have to replace goddamn with something else.

I imagine what will happen is a gay 8th grader will find him or herself isolated at school and will hear only negative messages from his or her peers about their sexual orientation. The teachers will be too afraid to step in for fear of losing their job and the end result will be the child becomes depressed and commits suicide.

Lol, common term, no real replacement ^_^

 oh good lord.

I'm speaking from the experience of this year. You do realize there was a wave of gay teen suicides that prompted anti bullying legistlation in over a dozen states, right?

exactly. nothing good, nothing bad. nothing about it whatsoever. which is fine - 3rd graders should be learning multiplication tables.

and how many of them were due to the fact that they felt alone and were bullied v the fact that their sixth grade geography teacher actually made them learn all the states?

i mean really, hysterics over the top much?

Is that a serious question or are you just being a dick?

i'll admit i'm torn. I don't know whether to use logic to expose your ridiculous hyperbole for the over the top hysterics that it is, or just utilize ridicule.

Indeed. We are talking about kindergarten through 8th grade here. While I could perhaps see a 7th or 8th grader wanting to talk to a counselor about sexual issues, I could not imagine children much younger than that unless they were sexually abused or highly sexualized. I just don't see the bill having a significant effect on the state.

My boys are in that age group right now, and sex simply is not on the mind. They're at the point where they might think a girl is cute, and the ultimate level of intimacy is sitting next to her in class. They're not thinking about sex or anything of the rest of it.

Now, if we want a homosexuality unit included in a general sex-ed class at the high school level, then sure I support that.

I don't really see why homosexuality needs to be talked about in school. It's more of a life lesson, not an academic one.

If it's in sex-ed class, it needs to be included. If it regards current events or family structure, it needs to be included.

Seriously what are they going to do if some kid says s/he they have two daddies or mommies? Suspend 'em? Detention? Paddle 'em?

Wait... kids aren't allowed to say they have two moms or dads? Or is this just saying the teachers are not allowed to teach little kids about homosexuals. By the way, when was this type of education taken away from the parents and put into the hands of school teachers?
