A key senator has asked the Social Security Administration to investigate how people who live their lives role-playing as “adult babies” are able to get taxpayer-funded disability payments — after one of them was featured on a recent reality TV episode wearing diapers, feeding from a bottle and using an adult-sized crib he built.

Sen. Tom Coburn, Oklahoma Republican and the Senate’s top waste-watcher, asked the agency’s inspector general to look into 30-year-old Stanley Thornton Jr. and his roommate, Sandra Dias, who acts as his “mother,” saying it’s not clear why they are collecting Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits instead of working.

“Given that Mr. Thornton is able to determine what is appropriate attire and actions in public, drive himself to complete errands, design and custom-make baby furniture to support a 350-pound adult and run an Internet support group, it is possible that he has been improperly collecting disability benefits for a period of time,” Mr. Coburn wrote in a letter Monday to Inspector General Patrick P. O'Carroll Jr.
Senator questions benefits to 'adult baby' - Washington Times

Senator Coburn is a moron.

There is no possible fraud here, just plain old no **** fraud.

"In an email response to The Washington Times, Mr. Thornton threatened to kill himself if his Social Security payments are taken away, and said the television episode showing him doing woodwork oversold his abilities.

“You wanna test how damn serious I am about leaving this world, screw with my check that pays for this apartment and food. Try it. See how serious I am. I don’t care,” the California man said. “I have no problem killing myself. Take away the last thing keeping me here, and see what happens. Next time you see me on the news, it will be me in a body bag.”

This is the first step before we raise taxes. Purge this kind of ****. SSI, Medicare/Medicaid fraud...all of it.

My response to this weirdo Thornton is check out pal you will not be missed.

I cannot speak to whether or not this man is disabled; by the standard Senator Coburn is employing, I am not disabled, while just about every mental health professional I interact with is conviced that I am.

On the other hand, regardless of whether or not they are qualified to receive Disability benefits, I think their lifestyle is disgusting and abhorrent and I want to kill it with fire.

I'm not qualified to diagnose possible mental illnesses based on reality show footage, personally.

Send him to jail and see if he grows up. He won't be committing suicide there.

He seems to think we should care. Let's call his bluff. If we're lucky, there will be one less disability fraud in the world, and more money available for those who truly are disabled.

This particular man should definitely not be receiving disability if he is able to run errands and plan and build his own furniture and the only reason he is receiving SS is because of this baby-man disorder (not sure what the actual term is).

I can understand someone receiving it if they absolutely had some social disorder that actually prevented them from interacting with people or actually having some disorder that prevented them from making a living in society, but this guy proves by going out to run errands and building his own baby furniture that his disorder is not preventing him from doing this. He just wants to live life as a baby. Well, sorry, sometimes life makes you grow up and take care of yourself when are clearly able to do so.

Theres a world of difference between..."oh noes...if they does this Im afraid I might kill myself" and "If you take away my free check I'll kill myself." Now...Im not making a diagnosis and determination based on a news article...however...in that one sentence he demonstrates the ability to reason and choice. He may have been raised to be a worthless ****, but he is at least a voluntary player in the game.

I believe in Wilderness Therapy. Airlift someone like this into the middle of the deepest wilderness with a pocket knife, a spool of twine, and a survival manual. If they survive and get out of there, they may have a quality life. If they dont...really...is there any big change betweendying and having an adult shove a bottle in your mouth and change your diapers on a regular basis??
