WHY are mainstream media no longer talking about this?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/8509502/Nuclear-meltdown-at-Fukushima-plant.html said:
One of the reactors at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi power plant did suffer a nuclear meltdown, Japanese officials admitted for the first time today, describing a pool of molten fuel at the bottom of the reactor's containment vessel.

Engineers from the Tokyo Electric Power company (Tepco) entered the No.1 reactor at the end of last week for the first time and saw the top five feet or so of the core's 13ft-long fuel rods had been exposed to the air and melted down.

Previously, Tepco believed that the core of the reactor was submerged in enough water to keep it stable and that only 55 per cent of the core had been damaged.

Now the company is worried that the molten pool of radioactive fuel may have burned a hole through the bottom of the containment vessel, causing water to leak.

"We will have to revise our plans," said Junichi Matsumoto, a spokesman for Tepco. "We cannot deny the possibility that a hole in the pressure vessel caused water to leak".

Tepco has not clarified what other barriers there are to stop radioactive fuel leaking if the steel containment vessel has been breached. Greenpeace said the situation could escalate rapidly if "the lava melts through the vessel".

I just watched a News program from Japan and they acknowledged the plant is still very hot and dangerous but the Prime Minister said there is no reason for undue concern.

I don't know if that means we can all relax of is it time for the Japanese people to run for their lives. The trouble with Politicians is they have cried wolf too much on the one hand and played real dangers off as no big deal so much, we never know who or what to believe. Obama is up to over 158 confirmed lies so he's off the scale and not to believed ever on anything.

I am not as familiar with the Japanese Prime Minister so who knows.

C-man has to make every thread about Obama. Especially the ones that aren't about Obama!

The plant still requires a lot more work but the situation is improving, not getting worse.

WHY are mainstream media no longer talking about this?

Because of bin laden...
Because radiation is no big deal (even though it is a big deal)
Because if people understood how f€#%¥d of a situation this really is, then the nuclear industry might find themselves with a liability.

Because most people have the attention span of gnat.

WHY are mainstream media no longer talking about this?

easy answer
because it is very difficult to spin this incident so that blame can be levied in a partisan manner

Other than people having a short attention span. They are probably worried it might fuel further anti-nuclear power sentiment. I am not fan of nuclear power, I think its a huge disaster waiting to happen.Plus the fact spent fuel rods have to be stored.

i am a proponent of expanding nuclear energy
which causes me to ask what the problem is with having to store spent nuclear fuel rods

Moderator's Warning:
This thread has zero to do with Obama. Knock off the trolling.

Guess I'll cross-off Japan as a vacation spot for a few thousand years.
