Newt Gingrich to launch presidential bid Wednesday

I don't think it has any impact on his ability to actually run the country. However, image is definitely a factor in whether or not he can get enough votes. It'd be understand if, as DD says, people "don't want to touch him because he has baggage." People also generally don't like their leaders to be blatant hypocrites.

I think when we get into bad personal decisions we're walking a thin line. I don't think it was smart of Obama to attend a church run by a pastor who spewed such venomous sermons every week, nor do I think it was smart for Obama to spend time during the beginnings of his political career with Bill Ayres. I also question some of his other associations.

But...the voters decided none of that was enough to keep him from being elected, and so he was. I don't like infidelity, I will physically harm the next man who cheats on me, but I don't think his infidelity should be a deciding factor based on what I know of it....levels of severity in mind, I think Edwards' infidelity was probably worse because of Elizabeth's health and the fact that he took political funds to provide for the baby mama.

I don't think any of these things SHOULD be a deciding factor, because they have no bearing on how well someone can run the country, I agree. But I think in reality, for many voters, they ARE, and for Newt there is a stigma attached to the decisions he made in his personal life that will affect the decisions of many voters. The same with Edwards.

not just his infidelity, but his utter lack of regard for his wife. THAT'S the kicker for me.

"I did not have sexual relationships with that woman." Maybe it wasn't a lie...maybe he was pointing to somebody in the room.

Nah, Billy C ****s everything that moves. It would've been a lie no matter who he was referring to :D What an OG

Scratch that, Newt did cheat on his cancer adled wife...which also kind of shows my previous point. I know what happened with Edwards immedietely. No google search needed. It was a relatively recent and massively broadcast piece of news during the era of 24/7 news stations and social networks. Newts was over a deacde ago in a relatively different era. Doesn't make it any less wrong, but does mean its not likely to have be as damaging to a potential campaign now as Edwards would be.

I don't get it. He isn't even attractice...even as president the whole power thing wouldn't be enough for me to get past his cocked eyebrow and head-waggle.

hillary was not in the hospital fighting cancer. or do you mean edwards? he's scum of the first order.

And if she was, you think Billy would have slowed down?

I was just trying to figure out who you were referring to 'cause I got a little confused. =o).

Newt Gingrich to launch presidential bid Wednesday - On Politics: Covering the US Congress, Governors, and the 2010 Election - USATODAY.com

But he didn't wait. He announced today, May 9th, 2011.

Former House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich has announced that he will be seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. president in 2012. Gingrich’s plans were made public via Facebook and Twitter Monday, where he also asked supporters to tune into his Fox News interview with Sean Hannity on Wednesday night.

Newt isn't a disciplined Conservative, but will add to the debate.

What's the difference between Edwards and Bill? I don't see any.

My dad's a staunch conservative that couldn't stand Bill Clinton. However, a few years back he was doing private security at an event that ended up having Clinton speak. He got to be near him for about 30 minutes and shake his hand and get introduced. He said he'd never met someone who exuded more pure and unfiltered charisma than Clinton did, even out of the Presidency and that much older.

Some people just ooze Charisma in person, and for whatever reason Slick Willy is one of the tops when it comes to that.

I can't help wondering how successful JFK would have been, had the public known how much infidelity was par for the course in that marriage.

I'm with Zyph on this one. Clinton's a great speaker and exudes charisma. Hell, there are people who think that Bill Clinton is blacker than Barack!

Do you mean if the public had found out DURING the election and it would have thus affected his chances at getting elected?

Or do you mean if the public had found out AFTER he got elected and that it somehow would have affected his performance as President?

I guess that makes sense. I've known people like that, at least. He'd have to have a god awful high amount of Charisma to become attractive to me, though. =o).

I ain't gay, but I don't think he's bad looking at all. And if you play Fallout 3, you know that if you have high enough Charisma you can pretty much damn do anything you want.

No doubt. One of those guys you'd love to have a beer with because he'd make you think he really cared about what you were saying, and he'd tell really good jokes. Brilliant at playing to whatever audience he's in front of.

You'd probably meet some hot girls, too!

if Newt wins the nomination, I'm cancelling one idiot vote out by voting democrat for the first time in my life.

this little piss ant had his chance with the contract with America and squandered it. what sucker would be fooled again?

Mostly the first. How would it affect his abilities as President? Like, the House and Senate would start blocking him every chance they got?

lol, my "gamer side" doesn't go much futher than Xbox Kinect games, Wii Sports, and Mario. =oP.

I guess I have a "type"...I want 'em tall, stocky, with warm eyes and a soft smile. I hate a cocky presentation. I'll become the worst version of myself when I'm around a cocky guy.
