Two imams pulled from plane bound for North Carolina

The two -- who hold high religious positions in the Muslim community -- were headed to North Carolina for a conference on prejudice against Muslims, or Islamaphobia.

Ironic isn't it.

Can you imagine what would happen if I told the Attendance on the plane I was uncomfortable because there were a couple Black guys on the plane wearing berets?

Talk about the fit hitting the Shan.

I'd strike a conversation with one of those brothers.

Well it could only be a couple because those are the only two black guys who wear berets in the entire country.

Muslim group: two imams pulled from plane bound for North Carolina - CNN.com

I understand the fear after all that has happened over the past few years. However is it necessary to pull two individuals who have passed security off a plane, because they've made some people uncomfortable?

thoughts?
Depends on why people (/pilot) felt uncomfortable. I don't think the airline/airport (or whoever made the decision) did anything wrong here. They weren't on the plane to know what exactly went on - they only heard from others that there was a problem. They did the right thing by removing the individuals, re-screening them, and then comping their tickets for a later flight when nothing suspicious was discovered.

In short, if anything, it was the prejudices of the individuals on the plane and the pilot that may have caused this embarrassing incident, not anything the company itself did wrong.

Actually they re-screened them, did nothing wrong and the pilot refused to let them back on and took off.

People are retarded.

These men were badly mistreated. I hope they file a complaint. There is no way that passengers have the right to give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down on fellow passengers. The pilot should be suspended and fined for his behavior.

Ironically, they were heading for a conference on Islamophobia, and how Muslims are being mistreated in America. :(

Irony has a sense of humor...

This is horrible. What rational did they have to deny them their flight? The only thing I can glean from this is that the pilot and passengers said they were uncomfortable with flying with 2 men in traditional Islamic dress. This is wrong on so many levels...

Plane bound for North Carolina.

That's half the explanation.

Yep, it was on a plane so that makes sense. People are a tad edgy now and rightfully so. Show me the video of these imams supporting the death of bin Laden and I'll let them fly.

Hell, show me ANY damn video of muslims celebrating the death of a mass murderer. Bill O points out, they've been DAMN quiet.

No, that was simply ignorance and prejudice. People who blow up planes don't look like they'll be blowing up plane (playing poker)

Also

These people looked like they did. But werent going to. Logic fail.
Also people who do, dont look like theyre going to. Hence they are able to. Double fail.

They likely don't fulfill the wishes of every squaking ape who trundles by.

Every terrorist attack/plot involving planes I can think of was done by people in plain cloths. I shouldn't of worded it the way I did, but that doesn't detract from my over-all point. There was nothing indicating that these people were going to do anything. They should sue the air lines and would be justified in doing so (even though I don't agree with law suits).

The 19 muslims that flew planes into buildings didn't look like they were going to do anything either. Look how that turned out.

There is no real easy answer to this. But the underlying fact is.....nobody has a right to fly. You buy a ticket, you can be refunded that ticket cost and not allowed to board. Basically, it's the old "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" idea. You have the right to fly in general, but you can't force any particular airline to fly you.

The TSA can't order a plane back to a gate to pick up a passenger. A pilot is the captain of the ship. He can refuse anyone the right to board. He usually never does, but he CAN. If you are intoxicated he can refuse you boarding. It all falls back on the right to fly, which does not exist. Now, if they are refused flight, they should get full refunds but that didn't happen so that's good.

I would refuse all muslims the right to fly if it were up to me, but that still wouldn't solve the issue. So it's not an easy thing to deal with. I don't think there is a right answer.

Not so sure about this. I could be wrong, but I think the Civil Rights Act applies to airlines. They can't just discriminate against you for no good reason.

They had a good enough reason to pull them off the flight if the pilot himself was making a protest. Now they need to investigate the pilot and see if he acted improperly, and sanction him if he did.

I was watching on the news the day after the killed bin Laden and they showed a Muslim family celebrating down at Ground Zero, so you fail. Plus, what's with the expectation they should do more than the average American when it comes to celebrating?

pilot should have his ass fired immediately

he had the right to refuse them passage
he had no legitimate reason to do so

yes and 15 of them were Saudis. why is the US government still firmly in bed with them? when will you be heading over there to spread freedom and democracy?

how happy are you with the 60 billion arms deal that was announced late last year?

Correct me if I am wrong, anybody....but Imans are not known to do terrorism, they are better known for teaching terrorism, and encouraging young men to martyr themselves for the Imans cause...

Those who can't do, teach.....becomes....Those who are too cowardly to themselves die for Allah, teach others to die for Allah....

If it were me, they would be needing those arms next time they get attacked by a neighboring state....it is time for the Middle East to police the Middle East.
As for 9/11, the president should have "invited" the Saudi ambassador to the WH, and told him to bring the Royal Saudi check book, for starters....

Actually, it's be more ironic if they were heading to a conference on combatting terrorism within the Islam faith.
