Two imams pulled from plane bound for North Carolina

Or maybe, just maybe, Gardener was bringing up another similar incident for comparison's sake. I didn't see where he claimed those were the same imams involved here. Good to know that claiming strawmen and dishonesty is just SOP for when dealing with anyone who happens to hold a different opinion than you.

With no evidence that in fact this was some stunt, bringing up those who did such a stunt is not attempting to make a sound comparison. It is attempting to create doubt about some one who, to the best of our knowledge, did no wrong.

Now this is a straw man argument. Doubt anyone will have any problem with it, so long as it comes from the left side of the aisle.

When in doubt, play the partisan card.

Shame on people who assume there is no way that the pilots, stewards or anyone involved had any possible reason to be concerned.

What reason for concert do you get from the article written?
They went through what 3 damn security checks and found nothing!

Right! "To the best of our knowledge", that's why Gardener brought that up, we don't know what their actions were but yet you assumed wrong-doing on the part of the pilot. I could get all hyperbolic and hysterical too, and say what about the pilot's right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty? I'm curious though, if the imam's had acted the way Gardener described, would yor position change at all? I doubt it, so what's the problem?

I think it points out that we shouldn't judge until we have all the facts. It's an excellent example of that. We've no reason to believe it happened here -- but neither, as usual, do we have all the facts.

And as your comment show, you again want people to change due to other people's emotional reactions. This is America, a country built on concepts of rights. Stop trying to take away people's rights because other people react irrationally.

There is no guaranteed right to fly, Redress. Further, we've been taking away people's rights for a loooong time now because other pople react irrationally...including making marijuana illegal -- and the classic "No Shoes No Shirt No Service."

Plane diverted to NM due to security threat; Delta Flight 1706

Plane diverted to Sunport due to security threat | KOB.com

A Delta flight en route to San Diego from Detroit was diverted to Sunport in Albuquerque Sunday morning due to a security threat.

Delta released the following statement Sunday morning:

Delta flight 1706, scheduled service from Detroit to San Diego, diverted to Albuquerque out of an abundance of caution due to a security concern. The flight landed safely and Delta is cooperating directly with authorities. Delta's first and foremost priority is the safety and security of our customers and crew. The flight was operated on 737 equipment with 137 passengers and six crew members.

Perhaps a couple bigots at the helm.

Perhaps not.

Muslim group: two imams pulled from plane bound for North Carolina - CNN.com
I understand the fear after all that has happened over the past few years. However is it necessary to pull two individuals who have passed security off a plane, because they've made some people uncomfortable?
thoughts?

Yes, it's necessary and justified. Anyone who is insensitive enough to travel by air in the U.S., dressed like that, deserves extra scrutiny. They were probably taunting the American public.

Yes, a protracted ambiguity really helps your case. It actually does. Since the only argument people have in this thread is that 'we don't know' that the imams going to an islamophobia rally weren't stirring up a plane on purpose. Are you all serious. Imams going to a session on islamophobia... acting up in a plane. You all couldn't read the irony before you made your arguments? This was probably case #98210981018929367120987430198429038 of xenophobia in action here.

We have spent billions of dollars on airport security and all we have done is make it harder to hijack or blow up a plane in flight. So what???

There is only one advantage to blowing up a plane in flight. It pretty much insures the death of all on board with a relatively small amount of explosive. Secondly, it creates insecurity with security protocols....again big deal.

There are so many areas that are wide open where large numbers of people gather with next to no security that safety is a ****ing joke. Shopping malls, schools, sporting events, theaters, etc ...Whats simple is that you wouldn't even have to be suicide bomber. All the perp needs is about 60 secs to set it down/activate a fuse, then walk away and be out of the blast zone

Fear is taking over the country. plain and simple

Hmmmmmmmmm... paradoxical post.

One flight returns to the gates and "fear is taking over the country. plain and simple."

Yet...

You admit security in hosts of other areas is lax.

You know what makes me uncomfortable on a plane? Babies and toddlers. They scream and cry and kick the seats. Nice to know that all I have to do is speak up, tell the flight crew that I'm uncomfortable with them, and they'll all be kicked off the plane for me.

Sweet!

Shoot, sometimes I really wish this was true. While we're at it, let's implement this for movie theaters as well. Let's all strike at toddler terrorism together.

As an aside (and really more on topic), I've seen people pulled off because the people around them complained they smelled bad. Didn't that violate the rights of the malodorous?

Hmmmmmmmmm... paradoxical post.

It was meant that way...

We are focusing on the outside, but what about the inside?

Lets go back a couple of years...the anthrax scare in 2001. It came from our (USG) stocks and it was not an accidental sample... it was the best made Anthrax in history. Far better than the best made in the US and Soviet governments secret bioweapons programs. Who was responsible for those attacks?

If they could get our Anthrax out fully weaponized then they could get small pox out of our own labs.

Or I don't like your dishonest tactics. It's what you do.

Yeah, right -- A poster so dishonest to the core that they won't even reveal their gender talking about the honesty of others

There's a question??? Why? Redress is a lady.

Oh yeah, this is one of life's great mysteries. I believe he's a dude, but I haven't always believed that.

Heh...This caught me by surprise really..I didnt give it a thought before, I assumed redress was male, I still think he is....but then again I dont really look to see whos male or female I go by the name...I didnt know a certain lady was female when she was cursing me out in the basement...or I wouldnt have responded back like I did...I have to start paying more attention

Shhhhhhh, don't talk about that place up here, but yeah, sounds like you have the same impediment I do. I don't usually like to cuss out women either, and that's a real disadvantage sometimes. ;)

Yes. I think that is perfectly clear. The last line of defense is the flight crew and pilots.

If Conservatives were responsible for endless terror attacks, thousand upon thousands... then yes... Conservatives should be under extra special scrutiny. Alan Keyes spelled it out clearly I thought.

Screening isn't perfect... I think you are familiar with the attempted shoe and underwear bombers. Or are you not? I think you're aware of 911? Are you? I think you are aware of the fact that we put a bullet through the forehead of bin Laden. Are you? I think you might be aware that airport security has been breached... aren't you?

I think you might be aware of the fact they claimed massive revenge? Are you? You're likely aware they have sleeper cells throughout the western world... No?

This wasn't the Bad News Bears or Christian Bitter Clingers making thousands of terror attacks and threatening revenge was it? Didn't think so.

.

Maybe they want to ram a plane into an abortion clinic. How can we be sure? Are you willing to risk the lives of all those people, you monster? Christians have committed terror attacks on American soil! Are you just going to assume they wont do it again? Pay attention to the real world and let go of your PC bull****, man. So concerned about not offending Christians that we wont keep our children safe!? Wont somebody please think of the children?

All you gotta do is put little terrorist hats on them, point and be all "whoooah, what's happening here?!" Security will take care of those little bastards.
