Two imams pulled from plane bound for North Carolina

alexa, look behind you, I think there's an islamophobe!

No, you have to divulge the secret pilot wisdom in its essence and concretely manifested in something beyond your own faith that the pilot knew something. You gambling the imam's were dangerous somehow. If they ended up being on some sortof mission to coordinate a terror attack with other imams and the people on that plane have a 6th sense and werent frightened by their funny hats, I'll eat mine. Till then. I proclaim victory with my aboriginal boogie.

There you go again. You are unable a) to honestly reply to a post and b) to reframe from seeing everything in terms of stereotypes.

I can assure you, there is one in every cockpit and they have you directly surrounded. Don't go anywhere. They'll get you.

In all seriousness, it's not a matter of bigotry but a pilot out of line and an airline full of sheltered passengers.

See edit (I was thinking the same). :)

Anyway, this pilot is just the tip of the iceberg. There are thousands (perhaps billions) of nervous people in positions of power trying to do the right thing with limited intelligence (yes, in a few ways). Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he got a little confused and decided to err on the side of caution. At least, until there is proof that he is, in fact, a boogyman.

Is that reasonable?

Sorry, the content of the article is enough.

What content are you referring to? As far as I can tell there are only three facts in that article.

1) Two imams were removed from a flight to Charlotte.
2) The airline regrets any inconvenience and is investigating the incident.
3) The imams took a later flight .

Everything else in that CNN article is conjecture and/or hearsay. The title of the article even tips us off to the fact that the article is written from the point of view of a muslim group.

I'm going to wait until all parties involved have had their say before I form an opinion on this.

No.

Who but a racist bigot would judge people by the fact that they look and dress differently than they do?

I thought it was pretty reasonable, but we're gonna go with the bigot thing huh.

You don't think these pilots ever saw a person wearing muslim garb get on one of their planes before?

Ok.

Thyere not bigots theyre sheltered little people who fear the funny hats.

Wonder if she was banned from a flight too :2razz:

Am going to take the unpopular view here.

Islam has the worst image problem of any religion I can possibly think of. I realize not every Muslim is a terrorist nor is every person sitting in a Baptist church this morning a Fred Phelps sympathizer.

The recent Muslims in England protest who praise Osama Bin Laden and predict more violence against the USA has further tarnished that image of Muslims. Once again I am reminded this doesn't speak for all Muslims. But unlike the Phelps screwballs who number less than 100 the number of Muslims who view Bin Laden as a hero is quite extensive.

Another difference between our screwball Phelps clan is that their is always a greater number of Americans protesting them wherever they go. It may not be right but I believe it is going be up to the Muslims to improve their image. I would think that if the Bin Laden protesters are such a minority that there would be tenfold number of Muslims protesting these who tarnish their reputation.

She looked like she just escaped a mental institution. Dress like its Halloween on the countries most important and publicized day of the year why dont you.

I think you do not understand what you are talking about. Here is your protest BBC News - Police step in at Bin Laden protest outside US embassy

You no doubt are unaware that Muslims for crusades are led by Anjem Choudary a well known extremist who is kept a good watch on. His previous group Islam4UK which is banned tended to call off it's marches when it knew that counter Muslim protests were arranged against it. Since it's incarnation as Muslims Against Crusaddes it has tended to get involved in marches/fights with the neo nazi EDL.

This has zilch to do with ordinary Muslims. Go see the discussion in the European thread.

You are quite wrong to imagine that this group is any different in regard to Muslims than Phelps is to Christians ...and as for their being more protests against Phelps, well I saw a program on them a couple of years ago and I saw no anti phelps protest. What should I do demand all American Christians are removed from areoplanes before I get on. Ridiculous justification.

Actually, that's a ridiculous comparison, since Phelp's group has never hijacked an airplane.

Geez, a couple people were inconvienced for a couple hours and some of you act as if it's the end of the ****ing world. Haven't you all ever seen the TV show "Airplane" (not the awesome movie)? People who are too fat, who smell bad or who get drunk have the same thing happen to them. Maybe the airline owes an apology or whatever but, as a society, I'm pretty sure we'll survive this.

Everyone knows the terrorists are too stupid to realize dressing up in traditional clothing may draw a few eyes in what should be a covert movement onto an airplane, good move on the pilot's part, just look at this 9/11 hijacker!!

Ohh...

But seriously to the pilot? Fire his ass.

Show a video link of Muslims protesting against Bin Laden supporters then.
Show me videos where they match the magnitude of the anti-Phelps protestors.

This wasn't just Muslim Bin Laden supporters in England but also Egypt, Phillipines, Indonesia, and Pakistan.

It's insane that people that we all just ignored or snickered at ten years ago we are now scared totally ****less of. I seen a video interview with these fellas and they seem alright to me. This reminds me of a story a black guy at work told me. Him, his twin brother, and his cousin went to the Kenwood mall in Cincinnati, the "nicer" mall in the area. They were walking from there car when they passed a white lady's car and they heard a slam of her door and a click on her door lock. She was actually getting ready to get out. It bothered them so they turned around and went behind the ladies car and waited for her to get out. When she got out he yelled, "Lady if I was going to rob you I would have just broke through your windshield I'm here to buy some damn shoes." In which case the lady apologized. I thought it was a humorous story. I think Muslims should do similar things to scare white people.

Terrorist.

Muslim group: two imams pulled from plane bound for North Carolina - CNN.com

I understand the fear after all that has happened over the past few years. However is it necessary to pull two individuals who have passed security off a plane, because they've made some people uncomfortable?

thoughts?

Well, I'm on the fence here. I'm sure the pilot is going to be in trouble, but I can understand his decision if passengers were nervous. Here's what I don't understand: OBL has just been killed. Radical Muslims are vowing revenge. Two days later, two Imams get on an airplane dressed in full religious regalia.

And we here wonder why passengers and the pilot would be nervous? Let's at least be realistic here. It's unfortunate, but, really? It shouldn't be our problem. The old "When in Rome..." quote applies here, in my opinion. If people with Swastikas on their foreheads were blowing up planes, how smart is it to put a Swastika on your forehead and get on an airplane? I'm sorry, but I believe empathy goes both ways.

I applaud the pilot for being vigilant and ordering them off the first time. That was his choice and his job in thinking something was up. Where I think the pilot may be bigoted and should then be fired if proven so, is when after the SECOND set of security checks deemed the Imams to be OK to fly the pilot still refused them on. That is where the pilot is at fault.

I have no problem with a pilot wanted a second look but when the second look is done and there is no deemed threat, the pilot needs to do his job and fly the plane with all the passengers.

So you think people should just change their religion and not wear their religious clothes because IDIOTS might get scared of them?

There are better reasons but that one is ok. I'm just trying to be results-oriented.

(Full disclosure: I'd like to see all institutionalized religion dismantled.)
