Bush declines Obama invitation to go to ground zero

You know what? AS much as I would like to say a liberal won this pissing match, the truth is that it was simply that the opportunity came along with Obama president. Obama really only gets credit in that he was the president when the opportunity came along.

Sadly, i would have to strongly disagree with you there. Obama played a chess match leading up to this event, and he played every card right and made some very tough decisions which lead up to the events of making this happen. It was not something that was just given to him. I highly doubt many presidents in American history would gamble with their re-elections when it came to something like this. The opportunity came along because he made his own opportunity, which was not given.

Seriously?

Yes I fear that many presidents when they are being told that we know where Osama bin Laden is and that there is now a military plan to go in and take him out that many would say no. I mean why would they want to go get the person that attacked the United States.

look... President Obama was being respectful of President Bush and his role in making this happen and invited him. President Bush, respectful of President Obama's current role and of the fact that he really doesn't want to be involved, respectfully declines. Why does everyone have to get into an infantile pissing match over it? Really!?

President Obama was briefed with a 60-80% change Osama Bin Laden was in th Pakistan Mansion. I dont really consider that a "done deal". If Obama was to fail killing Osama, he would take SO much heat back here in the United States, especially from the conservative critics. He had no authorization to raid the Osama mansion, which would have been a BIG no no with some people back here. It amazes me how it suddenly becomes OK to break foreign agreements we have with Pakistan just because Osama Bin Laden WAS there. If Osama was not at that mansion, millions of Americans would be crying their eyes out about how Un-American Obama is. Independent voters would swing towards Republican appeal this upcoming election, and Obama would look like a fool when it comes to foreign affairs. He def. would have lost his re-election. So, in my opinion, this gamble shows more about our president then most people can see. He takes chances, he's not afraid to put himself on the line, He does what he HAS to do if restrictions are in between American and its goals.

Oh Yeah, George Bush had a shot to kill Osama a few years back, but gave the orders to stand down, so I guess you ARE correct in some regards... "Why would they want to go kill Osama?"^^^^^

Need to do some research before mocking people on their response, have a nice day.

as Obama slurping goes that is pretty moist. And Obama had all the authorization he needed

Very true. Amazing how we finally kill one of America's most notorious enemies and within 5 minutes the bitching started here.
Perhaps some need to change their Depends more often.

Yes, exactly that.

I agree with your sentiment, but he also get's credit for giving the go ahead, some previous Presidents probably wouldn't have.

Obama was making an effort toward bipartisanship by showing the left the victory is Bush's as well.

He's trying to unite the country. Bush was more comfortable to keep things divided.

No, he was being a gracious king.

Bushes interest in bringing Bin laden to justice did not last very long, I have to wonder if his interest in justice was not effected by his friendships with the Bin Laden family or Saudi Oil. Bush shut down the CIA unit tasked with finding Bin Laden in 2005. Bush could not get the job done in 8 years. To give him any credit for the death of Bin Laden would be a real stretch.

The fact that some see anything Obama does as just a political stunt is really telling. Is it not possible that the President of the United States is going to Ground Zero because of what seriously just happened? Eighteen months before the election will have little electoral impact.

Obama has whored all forms of media like no other president and has proven to be someone other than what was on the Bill of Goods. Sorry if some people are skeptical of his intentions. He's earned it.

I believe that some conservatives like to operate behind closed doors, What is it about President Obama that really ruffles your feathers? Does it bother you to see him communicating with the people who elected him? Do you have a source to prove that President Obama is in the eye of the public more then any other President?

To the bolded part: Dude, WTF are you talking about?

Am I the only one who believes that this could be seen two ways. One, that over time his interest in one man subsided, and another, that Bush, in saying he didn't care about Bin Laden, was illegitimizing him in the eyes of the world? Basically saying "he doesn't matter?"

I dunno, Bush fycked up in Tora Bora. I've had a military guy I know personally who was there tell me that.

Not sure why Bush would take part in such an event. It will be, at some level, a political event and it's easy to see why Bush would not attend.
Bush won't attend mainly because he actually practices good post president's etiquette, unlike one we have had in the past.

when one was as big a failure as jimmy carter or as disgraced as clinton you can understand why those two kept yapping after they left office

Where have you been "dude" that you don't know about the ties between the Bush family and the Bin Laden family? He was protecting Osama Bin Laden either because he wanted to or for some other unknown reason including possibly total ignorance

The Curious Bush/Bin Laden Symbiosis

Let's get the facts straight. Lets give Obama credit just like we give Ronald Regan credit for tearing down the Berlin wall. They both were that "final push" but they are not in anyway the end all of it. Hence, this is why Obama invited Clinton and Bush to the ceremony because this was their fight too. Anyone that tries to paint this in large favor for democrats or republicans is just a blind fool.

Since when does the president have any power over whoring the media? The media covers/swings in opinion towards whoever they want, and whatever sells. If the media supports obama, thats probably because a majority of their viewers supports obama...if the media hates on Obama....thats probably because the majority of their viewers hate on Obama. Just like Fox news HATES Obama, so do their viewers...because their station appeals to a small majority of anti-government conservatives. Very simple to understand really. Obama has nothing to do with this....anyone who has a view like this obviously has allowed their Obama hate to cloud their logical thinking. You think Obama constructed this whole issue for election reasons? You are HIGHLY mistaken my friend. The media covers whatever and whomever they want. The news has changed alot over the past 10 years. They no longer just report on the news, they also report on what their opinions are, and this actually really offends me. I dont need someone to tell me that Obama is a great president, or Obama is a terrible president, I can make those decisions on my own...

This is why I can only watch the news for about 30 minutes a night anymore. They no long report on real hard issues, its just all about conspiracy and why not and what if issues. When I watch the news, I want to know the FACTS and not the conspiracy bull****. The media fuels these damn conspiracy theories with their "Why has Obama not released the photos?" "Why has Obama taken credit for this killing?"

This can be a very dangerous situation for the American people. Some people are just not capable of drawing their own opinions.

Although when prior presidents have a disagreement in policy or belief with his predecessor, etiquette dictates that prior president decline a invitation if he or she has any doubt about holding his or her tongue.

LOL, I like to be ahead of the curve, think positive. It appears to me these days that the women have more moxy than our current male hacks in Washington.

Bush won't attend because he doesn't want to be the "guy who didn't get OBL" standing next to the "guy that did get OBL"
