Bush declines Obama invitation to go to ground zero

Don't be so ****ing sure, it was President Obama that got the job done.

You really think thats true? Assuming it was...dont you think he would have scheduled it on a more politically advantageous occasion? 9/11/11...closer to the election?

This MAY be a purely political stunt...but really? To what political gain? I think you guys are underselling the politician...he's smarter than this. He gains very little from campaign appearances 18 months before the actual election.

Hey... the American public knows this guy and that's why many relatives of 911 are not attending.

Tomorrow is not Sept. 11.

Perhaps the reason why GWB has remained mum is that his record doesn't really allow him to say a whole lot.....just sayin.

Quite the contrary. The guy is comfortable knowing history will judge him well, that with time and the cooling of political passions, when docs are declassified in decades they will learn that when America needed leadership to protect her and her citizens, he and his cabinet did everything in his and their power to achieve it... and did.

And Obama seems to agree, for they've kept the entire structure in place, sans waterboarding. Put that in your bong and smoke it.

Now Carter and Clinton... they are obviously uncomfortable with their places in history, and it shows. Not only that, they're classless.

.

The fact that some see anything Obama does as just a political stunt is really telling. Is it not possible that the President of the United States is going to Ground Zero because of what seriously just happened? Eighteen months before the election will have little electoral impact.

I know and thats my point. There really is little to be gained politically from this and from a partisan persepctive there is so much to be lost by being grumpy about it. I understand Bush not going...it is in-line with his public persona. But speaking out against it or trying to make an issue about if it is or isnt an issue just looks petty.

This is a victory for the United States. Not Bush and not Obama. That is probably the reason Bush doesn't want to attend the gathering and distract from it's real meaning.

No, Bush already celebrated it 8 years ago when he declared "Mission accomplished" to a horde of cameras, while on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

I don't think he said, but it just goes to show how much class he really has.

LOL! Where/how did you draw that conclusion? :lamo

How about Bush is to ashambed to attend after the way he treated the 911 victims, family members, NYers in general, and fire department? How about that? It is also an area that would be hard to secure from a shooter, and I would bet the list of death threats for Bush have the Homeland Security meter reading, "This is not a shopping day."

He could have waited 10 months to kill Osama, and just watch him in the meantime... but he look the chance ASAP. I'd say he did the right thing, by taking the chance right away.

I agree. You get that...right?

actually we are finding out that he took a while to make the decision - and canked an earlier mission to do so. but still, at the end of the day, he did make the right call. he's just not a guy who has the ability to make big decisions quickly.

I agree. You get that...right?

Yeah, sorry to confuse you. I often just quote like that when I am adding to another person's point... :)

BTW Vance, I tend to not be debating with you much... lol. I think he mostly agree on stuff. Perhaps I confuse you a lot. oops. :2razz:

And Rev, what if the president doesn't turn h
is visit into a victory parade? Would you acknowledge that or still say he shouldn't have done it?

Too late, he's goimg there to lay a wreath....

By the way in an ironic twist of fate. Guess who may be going to nyc today.

The "incredibly shrinking" past president who didn't get OBL?

Oh, you mean whe he declared that carrier crew's mission accomplished? That?

They knew about UBL's location since August of last year. He didn't take him out, "ASAP".

Oh....so this is the new ODS line....."he didn't get him fast enough"....wow....you guys are truly too much.

And he could have waited until October of next year, but he didn't.

Do you know the justification why they waited to take him out? Maybe collecting intelligence?

Did I say that? No. I ony corrected the notion that Obama moved on UBL, "ASAP".

I understand far more than you do, how the train-up to this operation was a mother****er, so don't start with the pitty party.

And he could have waited until October of next year, but he didn't.

He would have been political suicide, if UBL slipped away.

Do you know the justification why they waited to take him out? Maybe collecting intelligence?

Collecting intel, building an ultra-realistic mock-up of the compound, running the mission and the contingencies over and over and ****ing over. I know all to well why it took this long. But, let's don't act as if Obama got the intel and reacted immediately. Afterall, he did have to sleep on it the other night. That doesn't exactly bode decisiveness.
