Bush declines Obama invitation to go to ground zero

I think GOP advisors told Bush not to go -- so close to an election year -- again, Bush did what he was told.

This statement shows nothing but your utter ignorance of reality when it comes to former President Bush. His declining to appear is far more in line with every single action he's taken since leaving office than it is some kind of sign of "GOP Advisors" telling him to do it. The only time the man's made somewhat of a buzz since leaving the Presidency was when his book came out, and even then he kept a relatively low profile, tried to stick to talking about his administration, and refused...even on extremely friendly locations such as the Rush Limbaugh show...from saying a negative word or bash towards Obama. Bush isn't going because of the same reason he's acted the way he has since leaving office...his time is done, he's stepping aside, its Obama's show now, and he doesn't want to be in the spotlight. He served his country, his time is done, someone new is doing it, and he feels its most respectful to Obama and to the American people to let things move forward as he steps out of the public eye gracefully and with class.

No, the Associated Press reported that the intel came from KSM during standard interrogation, not torture.

From the AP:

And Bill O rielly, who has a history of being accurate, has had some very high up people saying that the first nugget of information that helped us find bin Laden was obtained from enhanced interrogations. Someone high up said it, and someone else corroborated the evidence. Bill very rarely gets this straightforward, but he said we can confirm, with 100% accuracy, that enhanced interrogations helped us to find Bin Laden.

Is it democratic party wankery, or is it just a few people on the board here. As a member of the democratic party, I don't think I was wanking any.

You wank as high as any man in Wome! ;)

Seriously...I stand all amazed. Good lord folks. Seriously?

To the general populace...

Obama is President. He did his job and did it well. Kudos to all involved and props to the CiC. The people that insist on trying to give Bush credit for this or attack Bush over it...you show yourselves to be precisely what you are. Mindless partisan hacks.

well, who really gives a **** what a fox talking head says? and why is THIS the focus, instead of the fact that bin laden is dead?

Probably for the same reason that dip****s on this site started attacking Bush 4 posts into the "Osama's dead" threads. Because partisan minded folks cant help themselves.

it pisses me off......first, that cheney felt the need to bring this up, what a f*ckwad, and now that anyone is discussing it at all.

no need to attack bush. i'm sure he wanted osama as badly as anyone. no need to attack obama either, he ordered a politically dangerous operation.

I guess he has brush to clear...

I say send a Seal team to the ranch, pick W. up, and bring him to Manhattan.

Bush went there once, grabbed a bullhorn, and showed tremendous leadership. He unified the country with a few honest words.

Obama's going for a photo-op and a campaign speech.

Such is the difference between these two men.

I dont have a problem with him going...it might provide closure to some of the families still suffering there. I cannot for the life of me understand why people feel the need to attack Bush for letting the president be the president. OK...thats not true. I CAN understand why some do that...they are partisan assholes.

Bush 43, like 41 declines to take the spotlight when historic events occur. 41 could have gone to Berlin, 43 has every right to be in NYC. Simply class acts.

Though he won't be there, you can be sure he and those that perished on 911 will be in the hearts and minds of a helluva a lot of people.

First off - my ignorance - as you call it is based on reading several books by Bush WH insiders and journalists given exclusive access. It's speculation, indeed, but at least I have some background info to base it on. What do you have?

IMO - his "low profile" is motivated by the shame and guilt he carries for having ruined a great country. I'll give him credit for having feelings, and being somewhat capable of introspection. Unlike Cheney and Rummy, he realizes the damage he caused. In the months prior to Nov. 2008, even his own party was distancing themselves from him. The lowest exit approval rating on record -- that's gotta make a man think.

Kudos to Bush for doing what is traditional and not criticizing Obama. Only 44 men know what it's like to carry the ultimate burden of the modern world, and it almost goes without saying that you would never criticize your successor. Cheney didn't care. A Narcissist in denial of his failures wouldn't care for tradition and respecting the U.S. election process.

Perhaps. I agree your final analysis is ONE possibility. I wouldn't call it ignorant at all. His actions during the transition and final days were very Presidential. He finally showed leadership.

Must be a different Bush, maybe another shrub. The one most people remember was AWOL, refused duty in Vietnam after a million dollars had been spent training him how to fly, stated "Brownie did a helluva job!", was an ex-drunk and drugger, and made huge fortunes for his cronies and co-conspirators, and didn't notice the reports warning about OBL and terrorism, and was a proud farter.

LOL, in other words, I nailed it. Open your effin eyes.

Bush has demonstrated the class that ex-presidents should by staying out of politics while Obama serves his term. Clinton could learn from him and others.

And he isn't interested in a political pep rally that won't bring these people's loved ones back in the end.

The fight against terrorism is still in its infantile stages.

Why can't Clinton and Carter follow this creed?

Yeah right....G.W. "Mission Accomplished" Bush wouldn't know anything about a photo-op....riiiiiiiiight!!!!!

Perhaps the reason why GWB has remained mum is that his record doesn't really allow him to say a whole lot.....just sayin.

Must have seen a different president than I saw. He was such a 'fool' but easily manipulated every elected democrat. He spent 8 years working with the people of Africa providing more support and resources to combat AIDS than any other world leader or nation combined. He managed to get FEMA on the ground in three days whereas Bill Clintons FEMA took over 30 to get on the ground. He oversaw two wars, defeating the Taliban in Afghanistan and the Iraqi military and government in under 30 days with minimal US casualties. He managed to preside over unemployment that routinely stayed below 5%. Did he have his failings? Yeah...sure...name one that doesnt. do you? How does your weed stand up next to his shrub?

"I say send a Seal team to the ranch, pick W. up, and bring him to Manhattan." - hazlnut

With the exception of promoting his book, W. has made a choice to stay out of the spotlight. Even with the promotion of his book he has declined to comment on current events. This is how an ex-Prez is suppposed to act. Morons like Carter need to take a lesson from W.

If he chooses to remain out of the spotlight then that is his right, however, I suspect that he couldn't be happier that OBL has been killed.

Wow, enough conspiracy level bull**** mixed with hyper partisanship that you'd fit right in at a birther convention. Oh look, and hazlnut likes it. Shocker, good to know he's not an equal oppertunity conspiracy basher.

See, I was talking about how Bush has been acting since leaving the Presidency, since that's what is being discussed...an action of his AFTER leaving the Presidency...and thus using his actions over the past 3 years while not President to judge what he's likely to do in this situation and in the next few years when he's stll not the President.

You see, different situations in life can cause individuals to act differently. Some people act like children with crazy imaginations when they're young, yet don't act that way when they're adults. Granted, not everyone follows this path....some continue into adult hood with wild imaginations, such as conspiracy theorists...but by and large its normal that people can act differently when circumstances around them are different. What Bush did or how he acted as President isn't a better indication of how or what he'd be doing now than the past 3 years when his life situation was more similar to the present than his days a President was.

Are you saying your offended that he is going to NYC?

Offended? no. A litte confused as to the purpose, yes. Well maybe offended, What's he going to do? Understand our pain? and that would be if bush and whoever else came with him, I'd feel the same about the lot of em. It's like wearing a speedo to a funeral, kinda not appropriate.

No, that's just what real presidents do.

Many of us support his record and methods. We caught bin Laden this week because of them. Gore or Obama would have sent the U.N. to go get him at the outset.

I'll listen to what he says at Ground Zero, before I think it's an insult.. but that's my style...
