Gov. Perry took $6 billion stimulus money from the Feds to balance his budget, now he wants more to fight the wildfires in Texas.

SAN ANTONIO — Texas Governor Rick Perry criticized the Obama administration on Thursday for not responding to a request for a disaster aid for the parched state, where wildfires have scorched nearly 2 million acres.

"You have to ask, 'Why are you taking care of Alabama and other states?' I know our letter didn't get lost in the mail," Perry, a Republican and frequent critic of the federal government, said after addressing a Texas emergency management conference.

President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency for Alabama, where storms — including a tornado that ravaged Tuscaloosa on Wednesday — killed nearly 200 people this week.

Governor Rick Perry has good reason to be pissed off. If these fires were New England there would be just about nothing left standing.

Most people have no concept of the devistation underway in Texas or the cost involved.

Governor Rick Perry asked for help and they just said, way too late: We're thinking about it.

Had Gov. Perry been a Democrat or he was a Muslim help would have come within a few hours.

Yeah we had heavy smoke from the one out in Junction, over 60 MILES away blowing over us, it was horrible.

I'm still waiting for the EPA to try and claim "Texas has bad air" because of these fires and try to fine the state.

Ah the smell of hypocracy (and charred homes and wood)

"WE DONT NEED NO BIG DADDY GUBMINT!".

"SAVE US BIG GUBMINT!".

Oh yeah of course Ric and Councilman play the "If it were a muslim bull****"

Which has about as much basis in reality as me getting to sleep with Jessica Alba.

That ah... big enough for you

Governer Perry said no such thing. That's what you were implying. A member of this forum made the remark... which I happen to agree with. But Governer Perry did not make that statement.

So what you're basically telling me is you're bored and want to screw around with me on purpose.

There is no concievable way the statement you quoted (had you read the other replies as well by the way) implied that I implied the governor said that.

You said Coucilman 'and Ric' in your reply. I was responding to the 'Ric' part, which was a mistake on your part.

No, sadly Jet my friend, you have it all assbackwards. Perry isn't upset because "big govt" isn't going to help, it's that big govt isn't helping because of petty politics.

I am really not trying to be irritating. I am interested in good discussion and hope to become a regular contributing member of these forums. Thanks.

So they are helping Alabama because they are such a liberal state

I'm speaking as a 5th generation Dallas Texan. I love Austin, San Antonio, Pittsburgh and Pflugerville as well as Brownsville and every town from El Paso to South Padre to Amarillo. Governor Perry can shove it up his ass as far as I'm concerned. Anne Richards was the last great Governor of Texas.

Not to mention he floated the idea of succession from the Union, slammed stimulus and federal money and so on and so on. He is a grade A hypocrite.. what cant his so great state not handle a few wild fires? Have to ask big daddy for help? So much on standing on your own feet and pissing on the union you are a member off.

Absolutely, people should have to suffer because of what their governor said, regardless of if they voted for him or not.

Oh, and what he actually said was
"There's a lot of different scenarios, we've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it."

Councilman and I tend to place America first and the interests of Americans first.

Meaning...America should do what is best for Americans first and worry about the worlds problems only after our problems at home are solved NOT some bull**** conflict in Libya involving muslim rebels...and at the end NONE of those ME contries (rebels) gives a **** for the US, or possesses the least bit of enduring gratitude or would remain a friend of the US one second longer than they needed our money or protection

Hasn't Gov. Perry talked of seceding from the union, and now he wants (another) handout from the Federal government?

And what was your attitude towards the federal governments assistance for New Orleans?

Was it, why did not the mayor/ governor prepare, plan better, it is a state or city issue not one of the federal government

Let's be honest. Money tends to go where it is most needed. As bad as these fires are, right now more money is needed in Alabama for the storm recovery.
