Wal-Mart: Our shoppers are 'running out of money'
What should Wallmart do to turn this all around?]/quote]
the last couple of years have seen businesses squeezing every last ounce of turnip blood out of productivity, there' snot much more there left to get.
They could sell products for less
walmart's margins are pretty thin - they depend on mass sale, not individual sales, for profit. they are unlikely to be able to lower prices enought to make a significant enough difference.
They could convince corporations to pay workers living wages, while starving their own workers with minimum wages. Any other Capitalist ideas? Like moving all their business to China?
it was the collapse of the tech bubble that really created the first giant push into globalization, so optimization of production and shipping is something they could look at. at this point, however, they are looking less at moving things out of the US and into China and more at moving operations out of China and into Vietnam and like nations.
but really? as big as Wal-Mart is, she can't take on the US government and win.
as long as we continue to pursue economically destructive policies, Wal-Mart can only mitigate the effects as much as she can.
