Tuesday Is National Hiring Day At McD’s

Re: Job Recovery ?

Mc Donalds to hire 50,000 isnt that wonderful...50,000 more working poor that the teaparty will want to pay more and save for their retirement and health benefits to give tax cuts to the wealthiest...

I wonder how many of the 99ers will turn down these jobs in favor of collecting off of us still working? Or better yet just start a drive to unionize McDonalds....I mean doesn't a job where you have to answer a headset require $15 per hour, and lifetime pension, and health care?

Re: Job Recovery ?

Mc Donald's pays more than minimum wage and if you can read and write you can move into Management and make nice living with benefits.

Beats what it once was,

You think $8.00 per hour and maybe medical insurance which pays up to $400 per year is a career opportunity?

Barely.

The federal minimum wage for covered nonexempt employees is $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009.

The owner of 8 franchises in the Philadelphia area interviewed on the radio yesterday said the average pay is $8.00/hr.

Why is the starting job, the bottom of the ladder, equal to the "career" AND the "opportunity"? That seems myopic to an unreasonable degree. Last I checked, most of MD's (or was it BK's) Big Dogs came from the fryers.

Depending on their situation, they may be able to take the job and continue collecting. Except I think the 99ers can't collect anymore.

Re: Job Recovery ?

This is exactly the kind of situation that the GOP and corporate America cream their jeans over. Keep American jobs at a minimum to ensure a huge pool of hungry workers that will take any job for minimal wages. Welcome to the GOP's dream for America.

Re: Job Recovery ?

Are these the jobs that Republicans promised would be created from tax cuts? :(

must be lonely... living in that little world all by yourself. Why not venture out and join the rest of us in what we affectionately call REALITY?

Apaprently, with the long lines, the theory of people not willing to take jobs was more smoke than reality. Go figure. :coffeepap

Re: Job Recovery ?

If McDonalds is hiring 50,000 people - good for them. I do not eat there. I would not work there. But its a start and 50,000 jobs at 8 bucks an hour is better than no jobs at zero dollars an hour.

Having said that, there is previous little future for America as a nation of 310 million people if the only job growth is in the area where you need to say "do you want fries with that burger" or "welcome to Walmart". We cannot be a nation of minimum wage jobs with the prospect of a career in management dangled in front of us like a carrot in front of a starving person. Its not a recipe for a healthy and long term sustainable economy.

We happen to live in a democratic republic where people vote. Many here complain that it is wrong that those who do not pay federal income taxes can vote to take away the wealth of those that do. So what are you going to do to make sure that the angry masses do not do just that? Take away their right to vote as some here fantasize about? Hardly works except in a nightmare scenario which destroys American in the process.

As opposed to your dream, which is to have a massive voting bloc all syphening off the government welfare teet watching Judge Judy all day.

That would be great and all, but President Obama needs to actually buy into this whole idea of "keeping jobs in the U.S.". Look at the oil industry-look at how much we are drilling in the Gulf now, how big of a deal offshore drilling was after the BP disaster (led to the moratorium on drilling). Now, instead of drilling in those areas again, he donates $2 billion to Petrobras.

Good God.

Posts like this make me every so thankful I wasn't raised by parents with such low expectations of people. I never would have achieved what I have thus far had I been drilled for 18 years with this "you're a victim and can't accomplish anything yourself" crap.

Re: Job Recovery ?

Its times like this I'm pretty thankful McDonald's isn't unionized. Can you imagine the **** storm that would create?
