OC Republican allegedly sent offensive Obama email

A Southern California Republican Party official was under fire Saturday after allegations she sent an email that included an altered photo depicting President Barack Obama as an ape.

An e-mail reportedly sent by party central committee member Marilyn Davenport shows an image, posed like a family portrait, of chimpanzee parents and child, with Obama's face artificially superimposed on the child. Text beneath the photo reads, "Now you know why no birth certificate."

Now, I posted this not for partisan hackery but for this part:

Republican Party of Orange County Chairman Scott Baugh told The Associated Press on Saturday that he wants an ethics investigation into the incident.

Instead of having a Democrat or liberal over-react (in my opinion), we have a Republican doing so. As distasteful as this is, I don't think it would require Davenport to step down, just maybe issue an apology, or a statement about it being irresponsible.

Stories like this make me feel better about the massive hypocrisy in our system.

I truly believe she has the right to do as she pleases but a childish act such as this voids any trust I have of the California GOP.

I strongly disagree. I applaud the California Republican Party calling for an investigation into the racist trash that was sent. It is the equivalent of hate speech. This rep needs to resign immediately. There can be no excuses for emailing stuff that would only be appropriate in a place like Stormfront. This is a good reason to stand with the Republicans in California. They didn't defend the scumbag. They are going after her. Kudos to the California Republicans.

Oh paleeeze!!

Racism? Hate speech? Jeeeze!!!

How bout we spend a little more time holding our elected representatives more accountable for the bogus claims they make about the nation’s finances and stop the petty attacks and embellished racism accusations?

Yea, depicting a black man as a monkey? You bet it's racist. But you do have a point. Our reps are sending America to hell in a handbasket.

The bush face on a mokey pictures were everywhere when he was in office. I think Obama himself would agree that this has nothing to do with the color of his skin.

That email is all over the country...I got that in my mail two weeks ago

Well I guess this can be expected when you won't clear things up about your citizenship and you just let things stew and stew. Obama deserved that depiction and cheers to the woman who emailed it. I do sorta feel left out I didn't get one.

This will only help this woman. Remember Donald Trump?

It is kinda genius. Maybe I'll find it on the ebay soon.

Please... By having the rep resign it strips her of her own 1st amendment rights. Not only Cali, but the rest of the entire country needs to reconsider the motives and directions of the United State's politicians.

For her to look at the email before sending it and be okay with it boggles me. Only the people can and should strip her, my friend. If we threw her out of office our demeanor in this world might as well further degrade as a place with false freedoms.

I disagree. This fool should step down or be thrown out. There's nothing hypocritic about demanding our politicians operate from an ethical and moral base. Shame on her. Good for Scott Baugh.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from the consequences of your speech. Go to your boss, shout in his face that he's an asshole, and see how that freedom of speech goes for you.

Legally speaking, she can stay in office because she's broken no law, but that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to be upset and ask for her resignation.

If she can't conduct herself anymore professionally than that, then she doesn't need to be holding an elected office. I think she needs to voluntarily resign her post.

This... about a dozen times over.

The First Amendment only prevent Congress from passing laws that abridge free speech. It does not protect people from consequences resulting from their exercise of it. You have every right to be a Nazi, but when nobody wants to be your friend anymore, that's your own problem.

The GOP will pressure her to resign because the one thing they don't want is to have to sink money into trying to defend her when election time comes. She should take responsibility for her own choices and her own actions and resign. She can't be forced to, but there is some personal responsibility that comes into play -- her responsibility for what she said.

Such antics is racist, plain and simple. But it's not just this GOP congresswoman who has done this throughout the Obama presidency. Recently, Rush made a similar depiction while attempting to mask it in Darwinism - the same tactics torn from the pages of gutter politics used at the height of Conservatism. Such depictions have been going on against Blacks since long before WWI and were a common depiction of black politicians throughout the history of our nation's politics since the in the 1930's and 40's. So, this is nothing new.

Nonetheless, it is still remarkable (and just as offensive) seeing this type of gutter politics take place in a post-Civil Rights era. This is why I've said racism, particularly between Blacks and Whites, should end if for no other reason than because short of landing on the moom we, as African Americans, have achieved everything our White counterparts have achieved. We really do need to get beyond such stupid and disrespectful acts.
