Obama: Congress must — and will — raise debt limit

it raises the level of public trust obligated in mostly mortgage backed junk to two point seven trillion dollars, the massive stake largely UNDIVERSIFIED

the same week the slasher went to seoul for his g20, trying to effect cooperation vs china's crass manipulation of its currency

who are you to talk to us about solvency, was the international reaction

the ny times reported, "obama's economic views rejected on world stage"

the national journal called seoul, "america's rodney dangerfield moment"

They're doing it knowing full well that it'll never survive the Senate or the President. In other words, they're doing exactly what the Democrats who voted with Obama against raising the debt limit were doing -- casting a vote with no meaningful impact strictly for the sake of political posturing.

In other words, they're passing the hot potato back and forth.

No the GOP wants solutions the dems whine and cry and just want to keep spending and sending the deficit out of sight

nonsense, boehner's broads and boys are doing everything within their power, controlling as they do one house of legislature

as for posturing, they're awfully convincing, having put the budget chair's plan in writing and passing it, 235 to 193

it's right there for anyone with an ax to hack at

poke its naked ribs with the lance of demonization and demagoguery

where's the slasher, meantime?

STILL making excellent and great speeches?

a hundred bil, thereabouts, every two weeks...

tick tock...

Riiiiiiiiiight. Just like it wanted to keep control of spending when it had a firm grip on the first and second estates?

No, what they're doing is making a lot of noise and passing bills that they know will never become law. That's posturing.

LINK: Obama: Congress must — and will — raise debt limit - Yahoo! News

This is almost comical considering his vote against raising the debt limit in 2006.

What has changed since then? If the debt limit hadn’t been raised in 2006 would the ramifications be any different than today? Why didn’t we hear the gloom and doom predictions of a global economic meltdown in 2006 that we hear today?

In 2006 there wasn't a single democrat who voted for raising the debt limit, unless you count Arlen Spector as a democrat. GovTrack: Senate Vote On Passage: H. J. Res. 47 [109th]: Debt Limit Increase resolution Today they are all preaching to us about how irresponsible it would be to vote against a debt limit increase.

I don’t get it. Can one of you democrats fill me in on the logic here?

Obama wasn't in charge then, he is now.

It isn't really a big deal anyway as the debt ceiling was going to be increased no matter what because not increasing it would mean bad juju for the entire country. Look here as well.

Why talk about the GOP it is the dems showing their hypocrisy to try and prevent cuts included in the bill. I am independent conservative and I am mad at the useless cuts I seen the GOP present last week

Palin wasn't happy either. She says the GOP needs to fight like a girl! :)

Sarah Palin to GOP: 'Fight like a girl' - Andy Barr - POLITICO.com

We didn’t elect you just to rearrange the deck chairs on a sinking Titanic," Palin said during a rally in front of the Wisconsin statehouse in Madison. "What we need from you, GOP, is to fight." Pointing to the national champion University of Wisconsin women's hockey team, Palin said the GOP could learn from its resolve and “needs to learn how to fight like a girl."

senator obama, admittedly before he transformed into the slasher hussein:

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Obama: Not Always a Fan of Upping Debt Ceiling - By Katrina Trinko - The Corner - National Review Online

a bill is a bill

No. Cranking out a bill that has no chance of going anywhere is an empty gesture unless it's to make a point you've been making consistently or draw attention to what has consistently been your pet issue.

That makes it an empty gesture for roughly 99% of the membership of both Houses.

Some GOP legislators contend U.S. not at risk for default if debt ceiling not raised | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment
Mulvaney calls Geithner’s rhetoric partisan and inaccurate because the federal government’s obligations will continue to be paid even if Congress votes against raising the debt ceiling.
“The reason you are hearing there will be an automatic default is that Treasury does not as a checkbook function have the ability to prioritize,” Mulvaney said. “What they are saying is, ‘Whenever a check comes in we’ll pay it until we don’t have any money left.’
“Let’s give them the ability to prioritize and prioritize for them and say, ‘Let’s pay the debt first.’ And if you do that, you can put off this default for many, many months, and this spectre of an immediately impending default goes away.”
Toomey has introduced legislation in the Senate that would do just that.

The logic is that they want a naked bill that does nothing but allow them to continue wasting taxpayer dollars with no strings attached.

That's all. They're afraid that yet again riders will be attached to a bill that Obama must sign that would limit the money they can steal from your grandchildren.

Wait. You think Obama and the democrats are the reason for the need to raise the ceiling debt?

Iraq

Afghanistan

Medicare Advantage

None of which were funded.

Tax cuts for the rich

Extensions of tax cuts for the rich or we'll stop you from getting a budget through

Increased tax cuts for the corporations

How soon we forget who put us in this economic downward spin. Bush got so eager to get every American's taxes for retirement turned over to his buddies on wall street, he collapsed this economy down the tubes.

Ah, but who started the tax cuts?

Who started the Iraq war that the pentagon and military industrial complex wants?

Who started Medicare Advantage which is the biggest most single drain on our economy?

Who bailed out the banks with lies about failing to do so would topple our economy?

Who bailed out the Insurance Industry in August 2008 with lies?

Who sent more jobs overseas and replaced good manufacturing jobs with part-times wages causing the economy to falter as fewer consumers were out there?

YOu need to dig a bit deeper for the REAL expenses and changes to our nation. Even now, after two years of controlling the purse strings in Congress, the republicans have done NOTHING to create jobs in this nation...including NOT regulating business to open up more competition in our market and stop the monopolies from choking out growth.

"vote for obama, 2010!"

"bush started it!"

LOL!

Answer to all of the above: Both Parties!!!

Oh, the Rebublitards did try to limit the EPA powers but Obama wouldn't allow it.

I could be wrong but I do not think this is a partisan issue. The debt limit has to be raise in the short term for the government to continue running (at least that is the understanding I have of the issue). It is completely unrelated to future budget changes.
