Chicago school bans some lunches brought from home

Not from or in China now (live in Taiwan, currently), but I lived there for two years and did some volunteer work in schools while there... not once did I see a kid bringing a lunch from home...

What? You think because you actually lived in China and worked in Chinese schools, that you know anything about them? :rofl

As far as I can see, the issue is about health and nothing more, But some would rather make it out to be some sort of constitutional rights issue.
It's a personal rights issue because parents should have the right to choose what their kids do and don't eat. Like Rev said, call human services if the parent is neglectful in this regard. The school's role is to teach nutrition, and to set a good example in the cafeteria, but they should not dictate parents' and childrens' choices like this.

Why don't you start sending your own learning materials with your kids if you don't trust the school to make the right decisions.

Isn't it sad that we would allow the government to feed their minds, yet people want to riot in the streets if the government has a say in what goes into their stomachs.
The government doesn't always know best, and must always be questioned. That's why I think the Department of Education should be completely overhauled. The only thing it should do, and the only thing the Fed really has Constitutional authority to do, is to put out curriculum guidelines or suggestions. Individual schools can choose to incorporate some, all, or none of it as they see fit, and parents can choose which school they want based on what it teaches. But we're already so far away from that I doubt it would ever happen.

And, that's really the only Libbo talking point your left with; insults?

Libbo talking points rarely, if ever, have anything to do with crack.

But, most often--when left with anything else--have much to do with insulting their opponent.

No, your comments of themselves apart from political persuasion seemed to merit my reply. That Soviets or Chinese would illegalise school lunches brought from home or completely to the ends of totalitarianism for its own sake. Actually now that I think of it, the Russian school I went to had better food than my American gradeschool.

Or was this just a funny I didn't catch? Ehh it's probably a funny.

I thought he had an aneurism and his logic circuit failed after ridiculing me for believing they wouldnt ban home lunches. I assume their food is better in schools there too. Maybe the nice ones.

Not the schools I had experience in... food was pretty horrid... not much better here in Taiwan, sadly...

Aww the Russian food was good. Do you know if home lunches are banned?

Really, school lunches? they know better than you or I what we should feed our children? I think this is far out of bounds.

This is all about money!!!!!!!!! This goes all the way back, at least, to the Clinton years. No doubt it tied into Michelle Obama's efforts too. But it's all about federal funding and school lunch contractors.

Politics from the past is still with us.

USDA Study Finds Federal School Lunches Linked to Childhood Obesity

We need Glenn Beck on this. He could come up with an elaborate ulterior motive for the schools. They could be putting in mind altering drugs and we would never know it.. :)

Seriously though. My kids eat school food, and I join one of them each week for lunch, and it's crap, especially the grilled cheese.. LOL

My wife and I talked about it, and next year we will be sending our kids to school with packed lunches. (We already paid for the entire year so why waste, right? It's the jooo in me I suppose... :)
