COLUMBUS, Ohio – Opponents of an Ohio law to limit public workers' collective bargaining rights have started gathering signatures to get a referendum on the measure.

In Wisconsin they have recalls, and in Ohio they have referendums. In both cases, the result is a poison pill for the Republican party, which is going to suffer for it's slap in the face of the will of the American people.

I was pretty excited when the Democrats were thrown from power. Like Bush, they were continuing to spend America off a cliff. Republicans came in, promising to restore America's spending habits, and end the fiscal insanity that had rocked the nation for the last 10 years. What did they do instead? They went after unions.

At the national level, the GOP is making a pretense of trying to balance the budget, but their attempt to bust the CWA, by (get this) passing a law in the House which says anyone that doesn't vote in a union election is actually voting NO (George Orwell anybody?), created a backlash among the majority of Americans who support unions.

At the state level, the GOP launched coordinated attacks at the same time in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Nevada, and other states, in an attempt to bust unions. Why? Because unions traditionally support Democrats. Their cynical and psychopathic use of political power against American citizens has resulted in Cheesehead Armageddon, as Wisconsinites have mobilized resources to "throw the bums out". And yet, the GOP has the audacity to call Americans exercising their Constitutional rights to a democratic process "thuggery". Who are the thugs? The unions? How about the Koch Brothers, and other corporate interests, along with their Republican lackeys, who are attempting to subvert the will of the people, under the guise of balancing the budget? In Wisconsin this lie has been exposed by their own actions. What of the budgetary items in Walker's plan? They have still yet to be passed, and are languishing in Congress, while the union busting provisions were ruthlessly shoved down the throats of Wisconsinites. There is your smoking gun, folks.

Is it any wonder that Americans have buyers' remorse when it comes to the 2010 elections? The GOP has lost Wisconsin, as total recall is in full swing. In Ohio, a referendum is going to make it onto the ballot, and people are pissed at Republicans there too. The first shots of slash and burn class warfare have been fired by the GOP, and the people are responding. Right now, it sucks to be a Republican.

The first Republican presidential debate, scheduled for this May, has been rescheduled, due to lack of interest. Only ONE potential candidate pledged to show up. Do you think the rest of them know something he doesn't? After all, who in their right mind wants to run on the platform that has exposed itself in America? At this juncture, I would have to say to Republicans "Congratulations. You have just handed the White House to Obama and the Democrats in 2012, and on a silver platter too". Americans might want balanced budgets, but they don't want "bat**** crazy".

I absolutely love it when people don't do their own homework. So I did it for you. And I will give you the answer right from the horse's mouth (Congress):

This would have forced union elections back to the anachronistic requirement that someone not voting be counted as a no vote. But you already know you could have found that out just as easily as I did, since it is all over the internet.

It's time for another Jetboogieman rant.

So we're on this merry go round.

Republicans going after unions, which hey, I can sort of understand, but that's if everyone has to sacrifice. Unions aren't being totally dismantled, and while I stand by them, unfortunately there is a pretty good point to the fact that why should state employees get bargaining rights when Federal employees don't. A very difficult point to counter.

And then we go on the protest merry go round, the same ones from 2 years ago.

Democrats are calling Bush Hitler, they're terrible people!

Tea partiers are calling Obama Hitler, they're terrible people!

Unionists are calling Rick Scott Hitler, they're terrible people!

Hypocrisy strikes again in American politics, as it usually does. Thing is, it's often so blatant, transparent and obvious that you literally have to choose to ignore it.

But it's cool.

But the real issue I'm seeing here, is the amount of time and energy spent demonizing the other side, from Unions, to Tea Partiers, to democrats to republicans...

I mean honestly, why even bother being a country anymore? If you want to know why you're in the predicament you're in, I suggest you look away from Republicans, Democrats and Jersey Shore and look in the mirror. Each of you is responsible for your own countries destiny, and most Americans don't take part usually, we're all keeners here, but the reality is most Americans are to busy working for their next paycheque, going to the mall and reading about Brangelina to care about any of this ****.

You don't look like a country thats ready to sacrifice for the good of the country, you're not standing up and saying "Ok, we will with less for a few years to pay down the debt". Look I understand this point is pretty moot when you can't trust the politicians to implement a long term fiscal policy that will pay it down, but in the end, you can't have it all. You're going to have to make hard choices, you're going to have to suffer as a people for awhile, and you don't seem ready, you don't wanna give up what you have, even for a second.

Is that the America that won WW2, that accepted conscription, that said "we will go without, we'll take rations" to reach an ultimate goal in a world that was not as comfortable as it was today.

Again this is a rant, filled with generalities and hasty conclusions and I fully admit that, but somewhere in there is a point. And I think a pretty good one.

Americans are always pretty eager to find blame, but are pretty short coming when it comes to solutions.

There are very, very few times when there's a complete right and wrong answer, and those times usually always involve body counts.

There's a solution to your woes, and the answer lies within you, and somewhere in the middle.

That's the word, I stick to it.

People wanted fiscal conservatism, so they voted in Republicans. The Republicans are now going after social, partisan issues under the veil of fiscal responsibility (Planned Parenthood, Union busting, etc.) and ignoring the issues they were voted in on. It's extremely disappointing.

Sorry, I don't see where it says any such thing. I see your interpretation of what was said...where did you get your information? Surely you didn't interpret what you posted here -- you must have gotten it somewhere. Somewhere in English it must say what you claim. Where does it say in English that not voting in a union election is the same as a no vote? You're not doing my homework for me. You're backing up what you said. I don't see it. Got anything?

It is the correct thing to do. I am sick of the democrats using tax payer money to fund their special interest groups

Yes all government employee unions. It makes a level and equal playing field for all government employees

So I hope you do understand, that because of that you'd have to use the Federal Government to mandate that all State Employees not have the right to Bargaining rights... meaning YOU just increased the role of the Federal Government instead of allowing it to be a states right issue...

Because shouldn't it be up to the state to decide whether they give workers those rights or not?

No I did not say that. I said they should have those same rules that gives the feds no power. all states adopt those rules and all unions have the same rules to follow. You of course have to find a false scenario to try and show the unions should not have to do that. i doubt it will happen but it would make it fair for all.

My question is why is this okay for the feds but not states?

It's a legitimate question. And one I raised in my first post in this thread.

I'm just finding it difficult to understand how you're going to convince every single state to adopt the same mantra without using the Federal Government.

Again I ask you.

Shouldn't it be up to the state in question to decide whether or not state workers have these kinds of rights?

Because the only way to implement such a plan nation wide is to use the Federal Government. Not every state will go along with it.

Are you sick of Republicans doing the same thing, or just Democrats?

Cutting funding for Abortions and cutting bloated union slob salaries, gold plated health care, diamond inlayed pensions is fiscal responsibility in my book..........

.......the disappointment you speak of.......at least from the people who voted them in........is that they are not cutting enough.

This makes me quite happy, to see people out there being politically active, fighting for themselves and the future American worker!

Because you refused to look. Jesus Christ!! Here, let me put it in language that YOU understand. Here is a link on the House version of the same bill, FROM REDSTATE.COM. I hope that helps, but christ, you could have done this yourself. Like I said before, it's all over the internet. I found more than a hundred thousand links by doing a simple Google lookup. Oh, what the hell. Let me know if you need more links.

Thank you. I'll return the favor the next time I post up controversial material without a link to back it up. This is hardly a smoking gun. You stated in your OP: "passing a law in the House which says anyone that doesn't vote in a union election is actually voting NO."

What you meant to say (I guess) was that the National Mediation Board ruled that way in 2010; that a Republican congressman proposed an amendment to a bill that would have left that language standing....whereas that decision was repealed in the legislation on the floor...and that only 16 Republicans voted for it.

Hardly a smoking gun.

Thanks again.

Thats the point. They are asking the feds for nothing just using their example. Will the states do it? I doubt it. It would make too much sense and we all know the government seldom makes sense

Your answer makes no sense.

You say the state workers should all be on a level playing field.

Who's going to make them all do it.

You're running.
