8 killed in protest at UN office in Northern Afghanistan

I don't think burning the Koran or burning the flag should be illegal if that's what you mean - but I do think that doing both is stupid and burning the Koran is even more stupid considering that it gives anti-American terrorist organizations more fuel for their arguments/recruitment.

Must be a problem with Islam, itself, more than anything else. Yes?

Must be a problem with terrorists/radical Muslims, more than anything else. Yes?

Not sure how you made that logical leap.

Why are we still in A-stan?

A-stan has always had war lords. After the fall of the Soviet backed government, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Pakistan all backed rival warlords. The Taliban started in Kandahar, rescuing a couple of young girls who had been kidnapped by a local governor and raped repeatedly. They hung the governor from a tank barrel. Then a couple of militia commanders were fighting to see who got to rape some kid and they rescued the boy.

All in 1994. They gained power from there.

Eight foreigners have been killed after demonstrators protesting a reported burning of the Muslim holy book stormed a UN office in northern Afghanistan.

The protesters were condemning a reported burning of the Koran at a small Florida church led by Reverend Terry Jones.

Well, if there were a better way to get more people to side with Jones, I for one can't think of it.

If morons in this country didn't walk around burning Korans and proving Islamic extremists right (who claim that the U.S. hates Muslims), some of this stuff could be avoided. Some people will always hate us, but when we prove their accusations right, their cause becomes more legitimate and violence like this becomes more likely.
The only thing moronic here is your posting, although burning books may be wrongheaded its perfectly legal in this country just like burning the flag. So then you'd appease the radical adherants of a bigotted intolerant version of there religion by letting them dictate whats legal or illegal over here in our country? When would this ever stop? It wouldnt, anyone who riots & kills people over a burnt book is not someone who I give a damn what they think and if anything..... this proves our accusations about some of the more radical elements of their religion which is they cannot tolerate anyone who thinks differently than them.

If anyone burns the Bible nobody will cut throats for that. In the civilized world people would say that the Lord would punish that person. But in Afghanistan they who cut throats distrust their God and punish themselves. But they are also very mean as they attack the innocent. They are afraid to attack the army. That is what terrorists really are. They are just nationalists.

What is wrong with you? The burning of the Koran is just an excuse. Its not like they wouldn't use another to kill. The ammo that we, yes even you, provide for them could be our life styles, it could the color of our hair, it could be our religion or lack their of, it could an action you take or one you don't take, it could be anything. Stop drinking the liberal kool aid that says we must make sure to not feed them.

That is what extremists and nationalists want. They want you to cange your own laws and curb your own freedoms and if you give in every time you will soon find yourself in a changed country like Afghanistan itself!!! Do you really want that? That is the policy of appeasing. That alwas leads to defeat. I live in another country and I have less freedoms than you have and I know what I am talking about. If you do not use them (freedoms) you loose them.

It'd be better if we didn't give them any ammo at all. Yes they are ****ing crazy. But the idea that "these people hate us because they hate freedom and they hate the way we live, because we are good and they are evil" is not reality.

I never said anything about good and evil. Anyone looking to recruit people into a cause, any cause, will try to find ways to get the recruits to not like their opponents. Its just part of it. Burning their book is powerful I will give that and it gives more ammo than just some random thing that they saw or made up, but its really doesn't make much a difference on their success rate.

only those who did the killings are the direct cause of the deaths. just horrible.

as for Rev Jones, well, what a wonderfully sweet example of christian tolerance and understanding. he must be very proud of himself.

Well, being that he hasn't called for the killing of people for disrespecting the bible, I would say he is quite tolerent, compared to some

Likely not a whole lot of difference, but like I said it's better that we don't give them ammo. While Pastor Jones' actions are protected under American law, they do have consequences likely far beyond what he had anticipated. You don't burn someone's holy book and not expect some people, somewhere to get really ****ing pissed.

I'm sure racists made similar claims after hanging a mixed-race couple

and what about the morons who legitimize their actions and are quick to hold anybody but the actual perps responsible for them?

she shouldn't have been dressed like such a slut!

No book is worth a human life.

What a stupid response and what a great way to boost membership against Muslims.
Scored an own goal there :doh

They are as moronic as those who think book burning is the way to a peaceful and harmonious society. Equally so.

Maybe you should read more carefully before posting moronic crap like this Iron Yank.

I never said it should be legal or illegal. In fact, I said that book burning SHOULD be legal in this country, but that the act itself is stupid because it fuels the fire of those who have already proven to be security threats.

Here's my post that your moronically skipped over:
I don't think burning the Koran or burning the flag should be illegal if that's what you mean - but I do think that doing both is stupid and burning the Koran is even more stupid considering that it gives anti-American terrorist organizations more fuel for their arguments/recruitment.

Moreover, it doesn't matter if you think people who kill over burned books shouldn't be listened to. Guess what? I think they're stupid too. But stupid people can still be security threats.

A common theme I've noticed in conservative posts on here is that whenever someone says "That's stupid", people like you turn their words into "That should be illegal." Never said it, never implied it. In fact, I said the opposite. Next time read before you respond.

No **** sherlock. Thanks for stating the obvious. Unfortunately, nothing that I said contradicted what you just posted, so let me state the obvious for you since you can't use common sense.

Disrespecting already violent people is a dumb security move. You wouldn't mock/disrespect Charles Manson. Why the hell would you mock al-Qaeda?

Did you seriously reply to me without reading the FIRST line of my post? Are you kidding? Let me repost it for you with highlights:

In other words, I'm not arguing that we should change our laws, I'm arguing that people should stop doing stupid things with our laws.

As far as what "they want us to do": I can assure that burning a Koran is one of those things as it just strengthens their argument that the U.S. is full of bigoted people who hate Muslims.

Well, then perhaps you should tell them so once and a while.

Oh look at this, we agree, this is exactly my argument - why the **** are you arguing with me then? Do you just like to pick fights based on nothing?
