Soldier gets 24 years for killing Afghan civilians

I find it incredibly disgusting that he is only getting 24 years for multiple murders, even if he plea bargained.

This was my reaction as well. I think he deserves more than a civilian would get for dishonoring the uniform, not less.

I think the sentencing would be too narrow - it should span up the ranks a little. They were trained, problems were seen among the men but no intervention or concern came of it. They were basically given free reign and no oversight like thugs in the underworld.

That is not justice, that is a whitewash and will be seen as such by the people of Afghanistan.

I don't think the superiors should be charged with any sort of crime, but there should definitely be some sort of discipline involved.

Another Reason why I hate Plea Deals. I hope the have "fun" in the Bridge. There life are over try getting a job while carrying Dishonorable Discharge for murder.

Way too long, two years apiece would have been plenty.

It's a war, and they should be given some leeway. I'm sick of this country bending over to kiss Muslim ass. For me to say any more could be construed as hate speach, and I won't go there. The Afghan people only have themselves to blame for the misery of their occupation. That's all I will say on the subject.

Umm...THEY COMMITTED MURDER. This wasn't an accidental killing where civilians got in the way. This was premeditated. No leeway should be given. War doesn't call for troops to kill civilians on purpose, sorry.

his attorney said he could be eligible for parole in about seven years so he may end up only doing just over 2 years for each murder.

dont take the bait..
Roger that but I will say this.

There are Rules to war, ROE and UCMJ. In this type war there are going to be Civilians deaths but there is different from fighting the enemy and intentionally Murdering People. We in the Service have a hard time with this war yes but we still have to fight with Honor and fellow the rules regardless how we or you feel about it. This was nothing to do with Kissing Muslim Ass they violated the ROW, ROE and UCMJ and they are being punished accordingly. Military Prisons are no joke and they will have to carry around for the rest of there life the Title of a Murder and carry there Dishonorable Discharge forever.

That's all I have to say to you.

If members of our military are allowed to get away with drug-driven murder then we might as well stop fighting, as our enemies will have already succeeded in destroying us as a people.

IIRC, this guy plea bargained by being willing to testify against the others. Without his testimony it's possible that the others could go free. He made a deal. 7-8 years in lock-up is a really long time. When he gets out he might recall that "getting his kill" was really stupid.

The cruel reality is.... Whistle blowers don't last too long inside or outside

I think quite a few people on this thread are totally missing that point.

if this guy serves his full term, he will be 46 when he gets out. with no job experience, a dishonorable discharge and a murder conviction on his record...his life is over. not to mention the abuse he will suffer while in prison. I think this is fair punishment, especially considering that without his testimony, the other would have likely gone free.

I bet this dude serves more time that Bradley Manning and Manning is a ****ing traitor to his country. This guy offed a few people, during a war. Manning endangered the lives of millions.
