Reporter Confined to Storage Closet During Fundraiser With Biden, Newspaper Says

http://www.drudgereport.com/flash7.html

Reporter Scott Powers was the designated "pool reporter" for the vice president's Wednesday visit to the massive Winter Park, Fla., home of developer and philanthropist Alan Ginsburg. The veep hadn't arrived yet but most of the 150 guests (minimum $500 donation) had. They were busy noshing on caprese crostini with oven-dried mozzarella and basil, rosemary flatbread with grapes honey and gorgonzola cheese and bacon deviled eggs, before a lunch of grilled chicken Caesar and garden vegetable wraps.

Not so for Powers. A "low-level staffer" put Powers in a storage closet and then stood guard outside the door, Powers told the DRUDGE REPORT. "When I'd stick my head out, they'd say, 'Not yet. We'll let you know when you can come out.'"

And no crustini for Powers, either. He made do with a bottle of water to sip as he sat at a tiny makeshift desk, right next to a bag marked "consignment." Powers was closeted at about 11:30 a.m., held for about an hour and 15 minutes, came out for 35 minutes of remarks by Biden and Sen. Bill Nelson, Florida Democrat, and then returned to his jail for the remainder of the event.

I know this information alreayd.

It does not make sense.

I'm sure he was free to leave the premises at any time.......

Seems you are making up things

making what up?
this is from the OP's post [emphasis added by bubba]:
... Powers eventually left the closet to watch the vice president. He later sent out a lengthy report on his remarks to members of the media. The report itself did not mention the closet, saying only that "press coverage was limited to a single pool reporter, who was allowed to listen to the remarks but not given an opportunity to talk with anyone at the event." ...

Re: Vice President's staff lock journalist in a closet for hours during a fundraiser

I'd like to see evidence that Biden had anything to do with the decision.

It only mentioned Biden's staff. Haven't they done something idiotic before, or am I thinking of someone else's staff. Maybe Pelosi's?

Re: Vice President's staff lock journalist in a closet for hours during a fundraiser

Post is old, picture didn't show up the first time I opened it.

Still 1 picture in an hour and 15 minutes?

LOL who said he only took one picture? Besides how many pictures do you need of a junk room to get the idea?

A low level staffer does not do this on his own he is told to do this.
Oh, I agree. That's what he was told to do, so he did it. I don't think that's the same though as locking someone in a closet to where they couldn't get out of they wanted to.

So a guard at the door is not being held like a lock?

I did understand your comment. You are asking for "the liberal spin" and in doing so you are implying that liberals will make an excuse for Biden's behavior.

It was Biden's staff.

All I'm going to say is this: If this were done by Dick Cheney's staff 5 years ago, we'd be hearing the same things, just from different sides.

Nobody sees their own side's wrongs. Conservatives have a double standard too, but they currently have the luxury of being the opposition (as far as the executive branch is concerned).

Logical Flaw #1:

Here is the biggest flaw in this story.

Don't feed me this horse **** Whovian.

You're better then that.

There's barely been a cell phone made in the last 5 years that doesn't do video.

I mean come on, he took a ****ing picture, it sends emails, chances are it takes video.

Or at least a sound recorder, he could have caught the Biden staffer saying the things he said.

Least of all, why did he take just 1 picture?

Logical Flaw #2:

The guests.

How did a Biden Staffer forcebly move this guy in front of 150 people into a closet?

Logical Flaw #3"

In an hour and 15 minutes, all he managed to do was send 1 email, and 1 picture?

What?

This guy is either really confident that his story will hold up to scrutiny, or simply the worst reporter on the face of this earth.

I mean come on, if I was stuck in a closet for an hour, I'd probably you know, tell somebody, call the cops, call my newspaper and tell them whats going on. Take a few pictures, probably one of myself in the closet with the door shut to confirm it.

Jesus if I was this reporter, knowing that the staffers of the second in line to the presidency had done this, and the implications, I'd be thrilled with the oppertunity to have such a huge story, which is what this will be if it's true.

All these flaws in the story are pretty big gaping holes, and I'd like you to try and film them.

Once again, those who are going to inevitably critisize me, will think I'm doing so because of my politics and defending Biden.

To be honest, I couldn't give 2 ****s about Biden or his staffers.

I just think this story, and all of you, are far too eager to get along without examining just how many lapses there are in it.

horse ****... not unless he KNEW it was going to happen ahead of time. When was the last time YOU recorded something important without previously knowing it was going to happen, even by a few seconds?

Please show me where anything in the story shows it was 'in front of' the other guests.

And how many would be reasonable? 10? 1,000? 2?

If I.... If I... If I... you're not. All we have to go on so far is what was reported. You are taking leaps and bounds that defy the very logic you're trying to cling to.

What ****ing iPhone is it then? Are you sure you know how to use it in that case? I've had cell phones from almost every different brand, over the last 10 years, they ALL took at least some form if limited video.
It's the second iPhone. It wasn't until the 3rd model came out that it had video capabilities. DO NOT doubt my iPhone skillz.

Oh and he just went willingly? That's what I do when I'm ordered into closets.
He did it as part of his job.

Ah ok.

So why are people claiming that he was wrongfully confined?
No, I don't think that's the criticism, the criticism is a lack of transparency in not allowing the reporter to speak to the guests.

Sorry dude, all those reasons OVERALL speak to a bigger problem with this story.

However once again, I'm willing to be proved wrong.

But it takes more then a single picture, and a dudes word to convince me.

I'll remember this next year during the election when a liberal reporter says Palin sniped him from a helicopter ;)
Yeah, but in that case, his account would be enough proof. ;)

Well of course there's a possibility the story is true, and the staffer(s) may have acted without approval, and so they're probably checking into it before they deny anything only to be proved wrong.

You know, makes sense.
not according to the logic you tried to use in your responses to me.

Make up your mind.

After half an hour, I might start asking some question.

After an hour, I might get a little furious.

Just saying.

Taking your questions in reverse order;

What about the other reporters?
According to the OP, he was the only reporter there.

Why didn't they want him to speak to guests?
And that's the million dollar question.

And another thing, why was his first instinct to speak to the drudge report, I mean surely if he had this kind of evidence he could go to any major news source with it, they'd eat that **** up like cup cakes.

also... perhaps you missed this part of the linked story... assuming you bothered to read it...
The Orlando Sentinel published a brief blog taking note of the lengths to which one staffer went to prevent pool reporter Scott Powers from talking to people during a fundraiser for Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., at the home of a wealthy developer.
This was the very first paragraph of the story. So, he DIDN'T go straight to Drudge.

The guard was likely there to make sure he didn't speak to the guests.

Why? Seems the Obama was trying to hide something from this reporter. WAS he was the only reporter allowed there?
