Once-reluctant Turkey is now gearing up to play a critical role in NATO operations in Libya, which will have their command center at the alliance’s air base in the Aegean city of İzmir.

According to NATO officials, 48 hours are needed to ready the İzmir base to undertake the mission. It was not yet clear at press time which country would be in charge of the operation, but a NATO spokesman reportedly said the alliance could appoint a commander from Turkey, the United States or any other member state.

Wow, were they bribed? We've had a good military relationship with Turkey including many Turkish soldiers training here in the US but that country's gone a little the other way lately. Love Turkey, beautiful country and people.

As expected, this operation just gets messier, and the US is entangled in something it can't win, but doesn't want to lose either. What a fart tart retarded (and smelly) decision this was on the part of the US.

Consider that we named this supposedly in-and-out operation "Odyssey Dawn" to begin with. Homer's Odyssey lastest ten years.

The AKP was just creating opposition to raise their profile with their Eastern neighbors. That was before they realized the East was for military interference in Libya, so they just decided to go with the flow. Plus, the opposition Republican party is set to make gains in the electorate and there support for joining the coalition pressured the AKP.

I'm glad we are contributing to NATO. We are all nations with a common cause who have fought and died beside each other since the Cold War. We have a large military and we should dedicate these resources to protecting human rights and Democracy. Using it for anything else would be a waste of time. I would love to see Turkey play a leadership role for Europe in Libya along with the French and coordinate efforts to oust this fanatic.

Huh? What? US UN Supreme Commander? Already agreeing to using the chain currently set up? And if this is just the dawn I'd hate to see the set.
