U.S. Seeks UN Resolution Authorizing Strikes on Libya

You have not expanded upon your position, all you are saying is that you support the troops, but not in what capacity or sense.

In every capacity and every sense as I have done since I was a child.

This thread isn't about me.

U.S. Seeks UN Resolution Authorizing Strikes on Libya - FoxNews.com

If we go into Libya, I wonder if the 'no blood for oil' people will come out and protest, hanging Obama in effigy, burning his photo, calling him Hitler, etc., like they did for Bush? I think not.

Also, if the Obama administration goes into Libya without UN authorization, what will the general reaction be here in the states?

Is this the same UN that has done such a great job in protecting humanity in Africa? Not to worry...there were millions of people who died...not because of weapons of mass destruction but simply because of weapons of antiquity like BLADES and CLUBS, I am sure the people of Libya who are seeking democracy have nothing to worry about since the United Nations is on the JOB as usual and this GREAT LEADER in the United States is...err....planning another weekend get a way, once again exhibiting his famous or infamous characteristic of VOTING...."present".

Funny as hell. THE PEOPLE who voted for this character just so they could become part of American History indeed have gotten their wish, THEY ARE INDEED A WITNESS AND PARTICIPANT....to the worst presidential administration in US HISTORY.

LOLZ Please, we cannot judge if Obama is the worst president in US history as he has not even finished his term. We need to wait at least 10 yrs before passing judgement to see how history will judge him. To say that he is currently the worst president in US history is idiotic and childish at best.

Ah logic dictates the reaction would be different because the two situations are different :prof
HAAAAAAAAAA! Logic is not what drives liberals. Emotion is. They'd be out in the streets raising their default Hell. I just wonder if they'd figure some way to blame Bush for that too.

By the time the UN gets to issuing an impotent wrist-slapping resolution all the rebels will be dead. Old Muammar Monkeyface will have fathered another 6 kids, the left will be blaming the right for not fixing Social Security and Obama will be a brown stain in our memories.

Congratulations on demonstrating your intelligence [/sarcasm]

I was comparing the reactions of the masses between what happened when Bush went into Iraq, and what might happen if Obama goes into Libya... not the conflicts themselves.
So the usefulness and meaningfulness of your comparison of Iraq and Libya comes from the fact that the situations are so different?

I will now compare the reactions of the masses between what happened when the coal miners were rescued in South America and what might happen if the Japanese reactor has a total meltdown.

If Japanese reactor has a total meltdown, I wonder if the people who cheered the rescue of the miners will come out and and celebrate with hugs and kisses and champagne like they did when the miners were rescued? I think not.

The major difference is that we went into Iraq as a preemptive attack because of poor intelligence that said that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction.
I was NOT a pre-emptive attack. It was a preventive attack.
There's a HUGE difference.

I really live this "Obama plays golf" knock.

Does "now watch this drive" mean anything to you?

I certainly hope he is improving his golf game, because if it's as bad as everything else he has attempted as president... quite frankly .. it would have to sink.

The difference between preventive war and pre-emptive war is a wide one that's been recently blurred by certain parties. The invasion of Iraq was preventive, not pre-emptive. Now pre-emption has become newspeak for preventive.

If Iraq had been an imminent threat to the US then the war was not an agressive war. It is part of a long sanctioned tradition of "preemption "Upon detecting evidence that an opponent is about to attack, one beats the opponent to the punch and attacks first to blunt the impending strike."

As we all know, "For centuries, international law recognized that nations need not suffer an attack before they can lawfully take action to defend themselves against forces that present an imminent danger of attack. Legal scholars and international jurists often conditioned the legitimacy of preemption on the existence of an imminent threat—most often a visible mobilization of armies, navies, and air forces preparing to attack."
Preventive war is based on the concept that war is inevitable and that it is better to fight now while the costs are low rather than later when the costs are high. It is a deliberate decision to begin a war."
Pre-emptive strikes need no justification. They've been recognized as legit for centuries.

Just not the massive quantities the liberal bed-wetters wanted to see.
Some people will get upset with you pointing out that the Bush Admin was a liberal one. I think the bed-wetting comment is a little over the top, though.

I learned something there. Nice post.

Ok. Where/What were the WMDs? Do you have any pictures or other info?

I was in southern Iraq, near the Kuwaiti border. we found several small caches of chemical rounds. the exact type and agent they contained is classified info. I have a great picture of myself standing in a bunker surrounded by chemical muntions, if you are still interested I'll send you a copy in about 25 years when it becomes declassed.

Are you allowed to tell which year this was?

Good men the World over have stood casually by and done nothing....and thousands are dead because of it.

We should hang our heads in shame.

The Left has decided that his Chemical Munitions do not count.

most recently 2009-2010. you would be amazed at the crap that we are still finding over there. we found a Mirage F1EQ buried in the sand in the middle of the desert about 30km from our COB. some old Iraqi dude saw the tailfin sticking up out of the sand while he was riding through and told us about it. there are many areas of Iraq that are just miles and miles of empty desert.

Of course, Of course....you must SUBJECTIVELY OPINE something into existence, PAY NO ATTENTION to the facts of what you have personally witnessed. The poverty level has not grown from 12.3% to over 15%. This administration has not SPENT more deficit dollars than anyone else in history COMBINED. There is no NEW NORMAL rate of unemployment hovering around double digits. There is no INFLATION on energy and Food, the greatest since another MR. PEANUT BRAIN held the same office 40 years ago. There is no open attack on US ENERGY RESOURCES, No Ban on New Drilling, No American Power Act....no making the US waste trillions of dollars in the middle east because of the Domestic Energy Policies (the redistribution of American Wealth to 3rd world **** holes)....No Attacks on Coal and Natural Gas....not to mention Oil. And of course there is no "limp dick" foreign policy that results with the inability to make decisions at a critical time. And of course this megalomanic is not PLAYING GOLF, TAKING ONE VACATION AFTER ANOTHER, and going to children's entertainment network shows like ESPN and Comedy Central while wasting time on March Madness....

Nope we must WAIT TEN YEARS....if you are an idiot that cannot point to the OBJECTIVE REALITIES that are demonstrable...RIGHT NOW. This is a NO BRAINER. Simply open your front door and ask the simple question. "Are you better off than you were just 2 years ago?" Indeed this megalomanic's incompetence will go down in history proving one thing....AFFIRMATIVE ACTION simply is not a good idea for the most powerful position on earth. The one that I actually feel empathy towards is HILLARY....damn she has aged 20 years in just the last few months.

that's my point. It's not that we haven't found WMDs in Iraq. we just haven't found the specific kinds and amounts that the left wanted us to, therefore they can still cry "bush lied about WMDs"

I wish someone would tell that to all the Bush haters. ;)

What wmds were there? How did being there give you an advantage of knowing what wmds were there?

Why all the pretension concerning WMDs? Africa demonstrates very clearly that it does not take weapons of mass destruction for despotism and tyranny to exist or to KILL millions and millions of innocent people. The world indeed is better off and the United States much safer with Iraq now under the control of the United States Military.
